Olive Pride Antonioli, 89

Cummaquid - Olive Pride Antonioli, 89, a retired registered nurse, died March 9, 1998 at her home in Cummaquid.

She was the wife of the late Frank P. Antonioli.

Mrs. Antonioli was born in Whitney Pier, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She graduated in 1928 from Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing.

Her nursing career spanned 40 years. Mrs. Antonioli worked mostly as a private duty nurse at Framingham Union Hospital and Leonard Morse Hospital. The last four years of her career she spent at the Simpson Infirmary at Wellesley College.

Mrs. Antonioli lived in Sherborn for more than 25 years and was active in civic organizations, serving as a 4-H leader.

She moved to Centerville and was an active member of the Hyannis Garden Club. Mrs. Antonioli summered in Kempt Head, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Rose of Sherborn and Elizabeth Anne Warren of Cummaquid; a son, Frank James Antonioli of Dhahrain, Saudi Arabia; two sisters, Evelyn Macaulay of Westmount, Nova Scotia, and Helen Skinner of Nova Scotia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Nova Scotia at a later date.

Muriel Boffoli, 86

West Barnstable - Muriel Caswell Tollefsen Boffoli, 86, a Mayflower descendant and direct cousin of Benjamin Franklin, died March 11, 1998 at her home in Hyannis after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Boffoli and of the late Capt. Sigvart Tollefsen, skipper of the Valencia, who was lost at sea in 1938.

Mrs. Boffoli was born and raised in New Bedford. After age 50, she graduated from the Hannah Harrison School for Women in Washington , D.C.

Mrs. Boffoli was the residence director of the Worcester YWCA and residence director at Garland Junior College and Perkins School for the Blind.

She and her husband, Joseph Boffoli, founded the Cape Cod Vacuum Mart in West Yarmouth, retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Boffoli was active as a Gift Scout leader, YMCA Women's Auxiliary officer, superintendent of the Pilgrim Church Sunday school and a member of the Pilgrim Church Choir.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth. She enjoyed reading, painting, singing and playing the piano.

Surviving is a daughter, Astrid Tollefsen Simsarian of West Barnstable; a son, Thomas S. Tollefsen of Burke, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous stepchildren and their families.

Frank J. Carey, 91

West Hyannisport - Frank J. Carey, 91, former chief executive officer of Commercial Union Insurance Co., died March 10, 1998 in West Hyannisport.

He was the husband of Alice M. (Lynch) Carey for 68 years.

Born in Brighton, Mr. Carey grew up in Dedham where he earned distinction at Dedham High School by lettering in baseball, football and basketball. He was a member of the 1925 Dean Academy undefeated baseball team, and won a baseball scholarship to Georgetown University.

He began his career at the Employers Liability Assurance Co. and the Employers Group of Insurance Cos., where he rose to president. When the Employers Group merged with the Commercial Union Insurance Cos., Mr. Carey became CEO of all the companies.

Mr. Carey was a trustee and/or director of the Boston Five Cents Savings Bank, The New England Merchants National Bank and The Commercial Union Assurance Co. Ltd., London. In 1960, he was awarded an honorary degree as Doctor of Commercial Sciences from Suffolk University.

Mr. Carey was a member of the Wianno Club, and a former member of the Algonquin Club, the Oyster Harbor Club and The Beach Club of Centerville.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Frank J. Carey Jr. of West Hyannisport; a daughter, Marilyn C. Allen of Boston; and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated March 13 in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Wianno Avenue, Osterville. Burial was private.

William J. Crowley, 63

Barnstable - William J. Crowley, 63, former administrator for the Massachusetts Department of Education, died March 10, 1998 at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape & Islands, Sandwich, after a long illness.

He was the husband of Monique M. (Gelinas) Crowley.

Born in Boston, he was educated at Boston College and Boston University, earning degrees in philosophy, sociology and public relations.

Mr. Crowley was the administrator for the Massachusetts Department of Education from 1981 until his retirement in 1992. During that time, he was also director of the Massachusetts School Choice Program, served as ombudsman for all Massachusetts school superintendents and was a hearing officer for the board of education on the revocation of teaching certificates.

In 1968, Mr. Crowley began his long career with the Massachusetts Department of Education, Boston, when he was named director of the Bureau of Public Information. From 1969 to 1974 he was the administrative assistant to the commissioner of education; from 1974 to 1977 he served as executive assistant to the commissioner of education; and from 1977 to 1981 he was director of elementary and secondary education.

He was a lecturer at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and many Massachusetts school administrator groups.

Mr. Crowley was the recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Service Award in 1989 and in 1992, received commendations from the Massachusetts Senate, House of Representatives and Massachusetts Board of Education. He is listed in Who's Who in America and the Dictionary of International Biography and Community Leaders of America.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Besides his wife, Mr. Crowley leaves four daughters, Lisanne Crowley and Michelle Crowley, both of Washington , D.C., Jacqueline Crowley of Brooklyn, N.Y., Patrice Courtis of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Mary Crowley Donahue of Holden, Mass.; three granddaughters; one niece and two nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 14 in Sacred Heart Chapel, Summer Street, Yarmouthport, followed by burial in Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.

Thomas N. Embler, 68

Yarmouthport - Thomas N. Embler, 68, a lifelong resident of Cape Cod, died at his home March 9, 1998 after a brief illness.

Be was the husband of Betsey (Stobbart) Embler for 46 years.

Mr. Embler was born in Hyannis and lived on the Cape his entire life. He lived in Dennis and Yarmouthport.

Mr. Embler graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and received a master's degree from Bridgewater State University. He worked in the Yarmouth school system for 25 years. Mr. Embler was a high school guidance counselor and social studies teacher, retiring in 1975.

He founded the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School soccer program and was a coach in that program.

Mr. Embler served in the Army during the Korean War as a first lieutenant. He was a volunteer fireman for the Yarmouth Fire Department for many years. Mr. Embler was a member of the Cummaquid Golf Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen Embler of Pennsylvania ; three daughters, Judith Alberg of Wisconsin, Rebecca Embler of Lynn and Elizabeth Embler of Yarmouthport; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held March 14 in the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, Route 6A, Yarmouthport. Burial was private.

Robert D. Feren Jr., 33

East Falmouth - Robert D. Feren Jr., 33, a masonry worker, died March 12, 1998 in a car crash in East Falmouth.

Mr. Feren was born in East Meadow, Long Island, N.Y. He moved to East Falmouth in 1973. He graduated from the Upper Cape Regional High School in 1985.

Mr. Feren worked as a mason for the Kady & Sons Masonry Construction Co. of Falmouth. He enjoyed fishing and shellfishing.

Survivors include his parents, Robert D. Feren Sr. and Barbara (Brown) Feren of East Falmouth; a son, Robert Feren III of Falmouth; two daughters, Samantha Rose Feren and Tabitha Jeanne Feren, both of Falmouth; two brothers, Edward Feren of East Falmouth and George Feren of Centerville; two nieces; and one nephew.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 16 at St. Patrick's Church, Main Street, Falmouth. Burial was private.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Paul John Fiore, 45

Cotuit - Paul John Fiore, 45, an antique dealer, died March 15, 1998 at New England Medical Center in Boston after an illness.

He was the son of Alfred L. Fiore Sr. and Mary A. (Perfetti) Fiore of Grayslake, Ill.

Mr. Fiore was born in Highland Park, Ill. He was a resident of Cotuit for the past 25 years, and had summered there in previous years. He graduated from Bentley College and received his master's degree in business administration from Babson College, both in Waltham.

An antique dealer, he was an authority on Stickley, the oak furniture from the American arts and crafts period in the early part of this century. Mr. Fiore pioneered bringing this style back and making it popular again. This style is now used on many TV shows, such as "Mad About You."

He got his start in antiques with John Cira at Backyard Gallery.

He received an award from Craftsman Farms, home of Gustav Stickley, for making a significant contribution to the revival of the arts and crafts movement.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Claudia M. Walter of Grayslake, Ill., Loretta M. Foss of Prairie View, Ill., and Marisa Ann Kelley of Arlington; two brothers, Michael P. Fiore of Grayslake, Ill., and Alfred L. Fiore Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; his paternal grandmother, Josephine Fiore of Libertyville, Ill.; his friend, Ray Cadrin of Cambridge; and 18 nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held March 19 at Christ the King Church, Mashpee Commons, Mashpee. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Walter Hinckley, 82

Waltham - Walter W. Hinckley, 82, who leaves a son on Cape Cod, died March 15, 1998 at Deaconess Hospital.

A WWII Navy veteran, he worked for the state division of ernployment security until his retirement in 1978.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise A. (Crowley) Hinckley; four sons, Walter T. and Charles J. both of Waltham, Robert W. of Centerville, and Paul F. of North Reading; a daughter Barbara Hinckley-Alcorn of Waltham; two sisters, Mary Eisenhaur of Waltham, and Eleanor Archdeacon of Winthrop; one brother, Horace Hinckley of Winthrop; 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held March 17 at the Joyce Funeral Home, followed by Mass in St. Jude Church, Main Street, Waltham. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.
