Robert Whitman, 83

Quincy - Robert Whitman, 83, who leaves a son in Marstons Mills, died March 11, 1998 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

He was the husband of Florence (D'Angelo) DeLizza-Whitman and the late Margaret A. (Sprague) Whitman.

Mr. Whitman was born in Brookline and raised in Hingham.

He graduated from Derby Academy in Hingham, Monson Academy in Monson and Colgate University in New York. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He worked at the John Whitman Woolen Mills in Boston, which was started by his father, and later at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. He also worked in real estate, banking and investments.

Besides his wife, Mr. Whitman is survived by two sons, Robert L. Whitman of Strafford, Conn., and Richard S. Whitman of Marstons Mills; two brothers, Arnold Whitman of Yarmouth, Maine, and John Whitman of Orleans; and four grandchildren. He was the father of the late Lisa H. Whitman.

A funeral was held on March 15 at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, Hingham. Burial was private.

Memorial donations may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, 105 Eastern Ave., Dedham, MA 02026.

Frank "Tangie" Andrade, 65

Hyannis - Frank T. "Tangie" Andrade, 65, a longtime Hyannis resident, died at home on March 21, 1998 after a long illness.

He was the husband of Suzanne L. "Dolly" (Rogers) Andrade.

Born, raised and educated in Wareham, Mr. Andrade lived in New Bedford, where he was employed as a fisherman for many years before moving to Hyannis in the 1960s.

Mr. Andrade was a chef and baker at Flounders Restaurant in Hyannis and at Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable. He had also been a supervisor in the Housekeeping Department at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was an avid fisherman­a 10-pound fish caught by him could easily be called 20 pounds by the time he got home. He made sure all family birthdays were memorable occasions, and he also enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Lenny Andrade, Bruce Andrade and John Andrade, all of New Bedford, and T. Bruce Barboza of North Attleboro; three daughters, Kathy Monterio and Bena Andrade, both of New Bedford, and Tanya Henderson of Atlanta; three stepdaughters, Carla Batiste and Karen Barboza, both of Atlanta, and Mary Ann Barboza Penn of Hyannis; two stepsons, Walter Barboza Jr. of Los Angeles and Peter Barboza of Hyannis; two brothers, Arthur "Doud" Andrade of Hyannis and Arnold Andrade of Falmouth; three sisters, Nellie Andrade and Barbara Marcotte, both of New Bedford, and Charlene Andrade of Fall River, 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Frank Andrade Jr. and Bernita Andrade.

A Mass of Christian burial was held March 26 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, followed by burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Andrew Joseph Boylen, 78

South Yarmouth - Andrew Joseph "Joe" Boylen, 78, former business owner, died March 16, 1998 at the Mayflower Nursing Home in West Yarmouth after a long illness.

He was the husband of Mildred E. "Penny" Boylen.

Born, raised and educated in Taunton, he graduated from Taunton High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was assigned to the Southwest Pacific as a combat glider pilot with the 433rd Troop Carrier Group.

He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston and moved to South Yarmouth in 1949 where he operated Wayside Studio until his retirement in 1986 when he sold the business.

Mr. Boylen was a member of the Rotary Club of Harwich-Dennis since 1951 and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Foundation. He was also a past secretary of the rotary club.

He was a former member of the Hyannis Yacht Club where he was also a secretary for many years, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and a founding member of the World War II Glider Pilot Association since 1970.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Patricia Shaughnessy of South Yarmouth; two sisters, Kathleen Martin of South Yarmouth and Alice Hayes of Taunton; and two grandchildren.

Services were private.

John C. Brefini, 84

Centerville - John C. Brefini, 84, an executive chef, died March 16, 1998 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Helen A. (DeLuca) Brefini, who died in 1997.

Born and educated in Rome, Italy, he emigrated to the United States when he was 14 years old. He was a resident of Norwood before moving to Centerville and recently lived with his daughter in Norton.

Mr. Brefini was an executive chef in the country's prestigious hotels and restaurants. He was voted "Outstanding Chef of Our Time" in the 1950s by the Epicurean Club.

He also pioneered the development of the modern microwave oven for Raytheon Co. in the 1960s.

During World War II, Mr. Brefini served in the merchant marine on the troop transport Mariposa. He was awarded both the Atlantic and Pacific War Zone Bars.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna T. Gradie of Norton; a son, Phillip A. Brefini of Norton; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass was celebrated March 19 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Guy J. Coletti, 80

Centerville - Guy J. Coletti, 80, a retired home designer and builder, died March 21, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Pauli (Davin) Coletti and the late Simone (Babineau) Coletti who died in 1982.

Mr. Coletti was born and raised in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton High School and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

He owned and operated Conveyor Engineering in Waltham until moving to Harwich in 1973. In 1980 he moved to Centerville.

While living on the Cape, he was a home designer and builder until he retired in 1990.

Mr. Coletti was a golf enthusiast and a member of the Cranberry Valley Golf Club.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.

He is survived by a son, Guy M. Coletti of Centerville; a daughter, Carole Coletti of Boston; two brothers, Alfred Coletti and Cesidio "Joe" Coletti, both of Newton; three sisters, Mary Sorrentino of Needham, Carmela O'Dea of Natick, and Theresa O'Halloran of Newton; one granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held March 24 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis and was followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial was in the Mosswood Cemetery.

Anita V. Copeland Draper, 66

Hyannis - Anita V. Copeland (Belmore) Draper, 66, died March 19, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Gerald Draper.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Draper was raised in Bridgewater and moved to Falmouth in 1961. She worked as a waitress at the former Smith's Surrey Room and at the Flying Bridge Restaurants in Falmouth. She served as president of the Child Study Club in Falmouth, organizing various educational and fundraising events.

Mrs. Draper moved to Hyannis in 1982, working as a nurse's aide at the former Centerville Nursing Home and at private homes, and also volunteered as a piano player and singer to entertain nursing home residents. She was a member of the Sons of Italy.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons, Maurice W. Copeland of Pocasset and Philip E. Copeland of Waltham; her daughters, Janice L. Ketchamm of Vancouver, B.C. and Cathy C. Titus of Falmouth; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held March 23 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater, with burial following in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Frederick C. Gallant, 66

Hyannis - Frederick C. Gallant, 66, died March 20, 1998 at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Verna (Clavette) Gallant for 43 years.

Mr. Gallant was born and raised in Newton and moved to Brewster at the age of 12. While living in Brewster, he worked for his father's refuse business. Before entering the Army he worked for the former Mayo's Duck Farm in East Orleans.

During the Korean conflict, Mr. Gallant worked as a cook and was honorably discharged in 1954 at the rank of private first class.

Upon leaving the Army, he married and moved to Hyannis.

From the mid to late 1950s he worked as a truck driver for the Eldridge and Bourne Moving Co. in Hyannis. In the early 1960s until the early 1980s he was a truck driver for Baxter's Transportation Co. In the mid 1980s until his retirement in 1997 he was a bus driver for the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, driving the Sealine route to Woods Hole three times a day.

He also drove for the Pyrofax Gas Go., and he drove a bus for handicapped students for the Barnstable school system.

Mr. Gallant was an avid bingo player and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Hyannis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2478, a life member of the Hyannis Disabled American Veterans Chapter 96, and he was a past commander of the Military Order of Cooties, a group of hospital volunteers.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Frederic C. Gallant Jr. of Potsdam N.Y. and Jody R. Gallant of Hyannis; a daughter, Darline Manwaring of Yarmouthport; five brothers, Roland, Francis, David, Wilfred and Jack Gallant, all of Brewster; three sisters, Hilda Cash, Barbara Ramshur and Jane Arsenault, all of Brewster; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on March 27 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, and burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Philip E. Larson, 80

Centerville - Philip E. Larson, 80, died March 15, 1998 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community­Pavilion in Hyannis after a brief illness.

He had been the husband of Geraldine (Farnam) Parker since 1942.

Born in New York City, Mr. Larson received his bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico and his master's of science degree in government, management and taxation from the University of Denver, where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow.

An investment adviser, he was a senior manager for Griffenhagen and Associates in Chicago, a consultant to the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, administrative officer of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Toronto, and assistant to the chairman of the board of Bache & Co. Inc. in New York City. He was also regional manger for the Prudential Securities in the northeast and manager of its Hyannis office.

In recent years, Mr. Larson free-lanced as a registered investment adviser. He had been a resident of Centerville since the early 1970s.

Mr. Larson was a member of the South Congregational Church in Centerville, the Oyster Harbors Golf Club, The Beach Club, the Hyannis Yacht Club and the Cape Cod Curling Club.

He enjoyed playing bridge, golf and curling and was a ham radio operator.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Theodore E. Larson II of Fair Lawn, N.J. and Philip E. Larson Jr. of Sherborn; a brother, Randall Larson of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Doris Wechsler of New York, N.Y., and Elsie O'Leary of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held March 21 at the South Congregational Church in Centerville. Memorial donations may be made to the remembrance fund of the church.
