Eleanor Rosenlund, 83

Tuesday, February 6, 2001

WORCESTER -- Eleanor L. (Richter) Rosenlund, 83, of 83 Osceola Ave., died Monday, Feb. 5, in the UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.

Her husband of 48 years, Paul O. Rosenlund, died in 1990. She leaves a son, Richard L. Rosenlund of Franklin, Wis.; a daughter, Judith A. Desrosiers of Worcester; a sister, Winnie Laflash of Spencer; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Frederick and Stella Rosenlund, and attended Worcester schools.

Mrs. Rosenlund was a licensed practical nurse at Worcester State Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1976.

The private funeral service will be held at Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery at a later date. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

John F. Rozzen, 77

WARREN -- John F. Rozzen, 77, of 369 Washington St., died Monday, Feb. 5, in Brockton VA Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Claire (Allard) Rozzen; three sons, John Rozzen of Ware, David Rozzen of Phoenix, and Kenneth Rozzen of West Warren; two brothers, Frank Rozzen of Warren and Joseph Rozzen of Oakham; a sister, Florence Clark of Florissant, Colo.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. He was born in Warren, son of Stanley and Julia (Hazepa) Rozzen, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He served as a paratrooper in the Philippines and New Guinea. He received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Rozzen was a sheeter operator for the former Ludlow Paper Co. of Ware, retiring several years ago.

He was a member of All Saints Church in Ware and the Disabled American Veterans in Worcester.

The private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Church, 17 North St., Ware, MA 01082. Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., Ware, is directing arrangements.

Mary Rubino, 37, Vincent Rubino, infant

Monday, February 5, 2001

VERNON, Conn. -- Mary (Scott) Rubino, 37, of Vernon, formerly of Worcester, Mass., and her infant son, Vincent T. Rubino, died Saturday, Feb. 3, in Rockville General Hospital.

She leaves her husband, Andrew P. Rubino; two sons, Anthony and Salvatore Rubino, both of Vernon; a daughter, Gabrielle Rubino of Vernon; her parents, Gilbert and Emily (Sullivan) Scott of Westerly, R.I.; three sisters, Kathleen Loiseau of Worcester, Theresa Caiazzi of Scarborough, Maine, and Katie Saul of Petersburg, N.J.; two brothers, Michael Scott of Jefferson, Mass., and Gilbert Scott of Kansas City, Miss.; many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rubino was born in Worcester, and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. She received her bachelor's degree from Villanova University.

Mrs. Rubino was a certified public accountant.

The funeral services for Mrs. Rubino and her son will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in St. Joseph's Church, Rockville. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St. Donations may be made to Easter Seals, 484 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Gertrude V. Rudis, 85

WORCESTER -- Gertrude V. (Edquist) Rudis, 85, of Worcester, died Friday, Feb. 3, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, Frank Rudis; two daughters, Evelyn “Sue” Halkola of Hubbardston and Marilyn A. Cranston of West Boylston; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a nephew. A sister, Evelyn Guertin, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of G. Carl and Beda (Johnson) Edquist, and graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade School in Worcester.

Mrs. Rudis worked 27 years for Norton Co., retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Norton Retirees Club and the Norton Alumni.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity.

Francis A. Saball, 67

ASHBY -- Francis A. Saball, 67, of 1065 Turnpike Road, a retired heavy-machine operator, died Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Deaconess-Nashoba Hospital, Ayer.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, June C. (Anderson) Saball; two sons, David F. Saball of Henniker, N.H. and Michael J. Saball of Ashby; a daughter, Linda M. Johnson of Boxford; three brothers, Fred C. Saball, James Saball and George Saball, all of Fitchburg; three sisters, Christine Page of Fitchburg, Della Breault of California, and Rita Morrissey of Townsend; and two grandchildren. Three brothers, Joseph Saball, Wallace Saball and Anson Saball, and a sister, Sylvia Elliott, predeceased him. He was born in Abington, son of Joseph A. and Cora D. (Tripp) Saball, and lived in Pepperell and Shirley before moving to Ashby 36 years ago.

Mr. Saball worked for 30 years as a Travel Lift operator at the former San-Vel Corp., Littleton, before retiring in 1984. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Swallow Hill Sportsman's Club, Ashburnham, and the North Leominster Sportsman's Club. He was a former member of the National Guard.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Shirley, in the spring. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710 or to the Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield St., Boston, MA 02108.

Sarkis M. Sahagian, 99

HOLDEN -- Sarkis M. Sahagian, 99, of 1503 Oakwood Place Extension, formerly of Watertown, a retired rug repairer, died Monday, Feb. 5, in Salisbury Nursing Home, Worcester.

His wife of 61 years, Zoya (Kantardjian) Sahagian, died in 1988. He leaves a son, Stephen R. Sahagian of Holden; three grandchildren, Michael G. Sahagian of Hubbardston, Robert N. Sahagian of Uxbridge, and Dianna Johnson of Holden; seven great-grandchildren. He was born in Sevis, Armenia, son of Michael and Noomzar (Mouradian) Sahagian, and lived in Watertown before moving to Holden in 1991.

Mr. Sahagian was an oriental rug repairer for Kasper Pilibosian Co. in Wellesley and Boston Rug Cleaners, retiring many years ago.

He was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour in Worcester, and was a former member of St. James Armenian Church in Watertown. He was chairman of the Nor Sepastia Association for many years.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01605 or the Nor Sepastia Association, 1505 Oakwood Place Extension, Holden, MA 01520.

Sahagian, 99, of 1503 Oakwood St. Extension, formerly of Watertown, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Mr. Sahagian died Monday, Feb. 5, in Salisbury Nursing Home, Worcester. Private burial will be at the family's convenience. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester.

Ralph T. Salmi, 78

HOLDEN -- Ralph T. Salmi, 78, of 1 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, formerly of Holden, a World War II veteran and a retired draftsman, died Saturday, Feb. 3, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Norma J. (Johnson) Salmi; and a son, Paul D. Salmi of Hamilton, N.Y. A daughter, Esther Salmi of Montpelier, Vt., died in 1993. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Elsa (Kohtala) Salmi, and lived 53 years in Holden before moving to Worcester six months ago. He graduated from North High School, Worcester, in 1941 and earned an associate's degree in mechanical arts from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, in 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.

Mr. Salmi was a tool design draftsman 36 years for Cincinnati Milacron, Worcester, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Greendale Peoples Church. He played violin and viola with the Fine Arts Ensemble at College of the Holy Cross and with the Clark University Community Orchestra, Worcester State Community Orchestra, and St. Gabriel School of Music orchestras. He enjoyed photography, sailing and skiing.

The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Greendale Peoples Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester. Burial will be at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association, 1250 Hyland Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10305; or to Greendale Peoples Church Endowment Fund, 25 Francis St., Worcester, MA 01606. Russell C. Sanborn, 85

WORCESTER -- Russell C. Sanborn, 85, of 23 Duncannon Ave., a retired foreman, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in Knollwood Nursing Center.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Longvall) Sanborn; a son, Dr. Richard Sanborn of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Carol I. Ordway of South Portland, Maine, and Jean L. Soderquist of Seattle; a sister, Eva Hunt of Holden; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of James and Irene (Renhult) Sanborn, and graduated from Commerce High School.

Mr. Sanborn was a general foreman 50 years at Norton Co. and Warner Swasey Co., retiring in 1980. He was a member of Salem Covenant Church and its choir, and was a soloist. He was a member of Norton 25-Year Club and Greendale Retired Men's Club and its chorus; a 32nd degree Mason; a 50-year member of Athelstan Lodge of Masons; a member of Worcester Scottish Rite Bodies and its chorus; a 15-year volunteer with Meals on Wheels; and a lecturer on lighthouses around New England.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in Salem Covenant Church, 215 East Mountain St. Burial will be at a later date. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104; or to Salem Covenant Church Memorial Fund, 215 East Mountain St., Worcester, MA 01606. Mary A. Santerre, 87

TOWNSEND -- Mary A. (McGowan) Santerre, 87, of 349 Main St., died Monday, Feb. 5, in Fairlawn Nursing Home in Leominster after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, Leonard E. Santerra; three sons, L. James Santerre of Boston, Richard J. Santerre of Naples, Fla., and Barry J. Santerre of Bernadston; a daughter, Diane L. Brown of Pepperell; a sister, Catherine Lodge of Manchester, Conn.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A brother, John McGowan, and a sister, Anna E. McGowan, both of Fitchburg, predeceased her. Born in Fitchburg, daughter of James and Anne (McGowan) McGowan, she lived 60 years in Townsend. She graduated from St. Bernard's Catholic High School in 1931.

Mrs. Santerre worked for Brockelman's Bakery in Fitchburg and Nashua, N.H., and Parke Snow's in Fitchburg. She was also a town voting registration official. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of the Townsend Women's Club and The Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of St. John's Church and its Ladies Sodality. She was a Girl Scout leader.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, from Brandon-Simard Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church, 3 School St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Church Organ Restoration Fund, 3 School St., Townsend, MA 01469.

Helena Shea, 96

Tuesday, April 10, 2001

HYANNIS -- Helena (Cronin) Shea, 96, formerly of Worcester, died Thursday, April 5, in the Cape Cod Hospital Care Community-Pavilion.

Her husband, Jeremiah T. Shea, died in 1969. She leaves five nephews and two nieces. She was born in Worcester. She graduated from the Worcester Normal School.

Mrs. Shea taught at St. Thomas Street School, Worcester. She was a volunteer at Assumption College and the Worcester Art Museum. She was a member of the Hortulus Garden Club.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St., Centerville. Burial followed at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Worcester Public Library, 160 Fremont St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Ronald S. Savage, 69

WORCESTER -- Ronald S. Savage, 69, of 62 June St., a former salesman, died Friday, Jan. 26, at home.

He leaves four sons, Richard A. Kilroy of Hartford, Robert Kilroy of Bothell, Wash., Randall Kilroy of Port Orchard, Wash., and Louis R. Kilroy of Las Vegas; two daughters, Halina K. Gosselin of Hartford and Veronica A. Reardon of New Britain, Conn.; seven grandchildren; his former wife, Halina (Sarkady) Klinge of Hartford; and a close companion, Dorothy Ventresca of Worcester. He was born in New London, Conn., son of Frederick W. and Alma (Schackner) Savage, and lived 10 years in Manchester, N.H., 30 years in Hartford, 10 years in Wesley, R.I., and 12 years in Worcester. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant in Korea.

Mr. Savage was a salesman in various fields. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating and the ocean.

The funeral service will be held at 11 .m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. A calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the funeral home.
