Clifford C. Schulze Sr.

WEBSTER -- Clifford C. Schulze Sr., 72, formerly of Thompson Road, a retired casket finisher and a veteran of the Korean War, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Lanessa Health Care, after a long illness.

He leaves his former wife, Loretta Taylor of Thompson; three sons, Clifford C. Schulze Jr. of Oakville, Conn., Stephen Schulze of Webster and Mark Schulze of Bridgewater; two daughters, Loretta Millette of Dudley and Laura Sweeney of Brockton; two brothers, Donald Schulze of Massapequa Park, N.Y., and Vincent Schulze of Woodside, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Laurelton, N.Y., son of William and Genevieve (Martian) Schulze, he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Laurelton. He spent several years in Manchester, N.H., before moving to Webster 42 years ago. He served in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany.

Mr. Schulze was a carpenter for several years with the former Chaffee Brothers Construction in Oxford, and was a finisher for 25 years at the former Sessions Casket Co., Worcester. He retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Louis Church.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Francis J. Scott, 82

Monday, January 29, 2001

WORCESTER -- Francis J. Scott, 82, of Worcester, died Friday, Jan. 26, at home.

He leaves a sister, Dorothy Searles of Worcester; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Three brothers, Harold, Arthur, and Robert Scott, and two sisters, Edna and Marion Scott, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Winfield and Sadie (Brigham) Scott, and graduated from North High School in 1937. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.

Mr. Scott was a machinist many years at Crompton & Knowles Corp., retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and was a sports enthusiast.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home.

Paul F. Scott Sr., 71

MARLBORO -- Paul F. Scott Sr., 71, of Marlboro, died Thursday, Aug. 2, in Mirian Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland after a long illness.

His wife, Mary H. (Rigney) Scott, died in 1998. He leaves two sons, Paul F. Scott Jr. and Theodore Scott of Marlboro; a sister, Theresa Harris of Marlboro; three grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. He was born in Marlboro, son of Louis and Elizer (Charron) Scott, and graduated from Marlboro High School. He graduated from Worcester Junior College. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Scott was a supervisor for Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. Mary's Parish.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, from William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 26 Broad St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the funeral home.

Elizabeth Shadbegian

Friday, February 2, 2001

WORCESTER -- Elizabeth (Mazmanian) Shadbegian, 93, formerly of 17 Ormond St., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing Center.

Her husband, Arshag “Archie” Shadbegian, died in 1993. Her first husband, Nishan Hoogasian, died in 1968. She leaves a son, Leon Hoogasian of Ventura, Calif.; a daughter, Marion Bilzerian of Worcester; three grandsons, four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Five sisters predeceased her. She was born in Hussenig, Armenia, daughter of David and Rose (Kibarian) Mazmanian.

Mrs. Shadbegian was a stitcher at Davis Clark Co. during World War II. She was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, the Avaks and the Armenian Women's Welfare Association. She was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

A private funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 1, in Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. Burial was in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609 or Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing Center, 300 Barber Ave., Worcester, MA 01606. Memorial week will be private. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., directed arrangements.

Ida Shannon, 90

WORCESTER -- Ida (Dahrooge) Shannon, 90, formerly of 49 Bates Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 1, in University Commons after a long illness.

Her husband of 54 years, Joseph J. Shannon, died in 1988. She leaves two sons, Ronald J. Shannon of Davies, Fla., and Douglas J. Shannon of Paxton; two sisters, Hilda Ferris of Nashua, N.H., and Anne Valeri of Worcester; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Four brothers, Charles “Speed,” Daniel, Albert and Philip Dahrooge, and two sisters, Bertha Gardner and Delores Esper, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Elias K. and Malocke M. (George) Dahrooge.

The funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 5, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a service at 11 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling period is 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA 01604.

Bronislaw Shetrawski

GARDNER -- Bronislaw “Bennie” Shetrawski Sr., 81, of 189 Pleasant St., Westboro, a machinist and World War II veteran, died Saturday, Feb. 3, in the Westboro Nursing Home, following an illness.

He leaves two sons, Bennie Shetrawski Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and James L. Shetrawski of Gardner; three daughters, Sandra V. Collins of Utica, Michigan, Elaine C. Bader and Christine A. Hamel, both of Gardner; two brothers, Paul Shetrawski of Gardner and Peter Shetrawki of Orange; three sisters, Adele Shetrawski of Gardner, Susie Goguen of Fitchburg and Annie LeBlanc of Gardner; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Gardner, son of Constantine and Grace (Miller) Shetrawski. He was an Army air corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Shetrawski was a machinist for Collier Keyworth for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Lithuanian Outing Association and was an avid fisherman.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Mass., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, 02140-1102. Boucher Funeral Home, 110 Nicholas St., Gardner is in charge of arrangements.

Harvey A. Shipman, 77

PINEHURST, N.C. -- Harvey A. Shipman, 77, of Pinehurst, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a World War II veteran and former presidential appointee, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in a Raleigh hospital after a long illness.

He leaves his wife, Jane (Conley) Shipman; his former wife, Grace (Jones) Shipman of Virginia; two sons, Tourne Shipman of Springfield, Va., and Peter Shipman of Fairfax, Va.; four daughters, Darcy Shipman of Seoul, Korea, Carie Martin of Springfield, Va., Airlie Shoemaker of Burke, Va., and Mellick Lyle of Springfield, Va.; and 14 grandchildren. He was born in Worcester and lived many years in the Washington, D.C., area. He graduated from Hebron (Maine) Academy in 1943 and earned a master's degree in education from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was inducted into the GWU Football Hall of Fame. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Shipman taught English and American History at Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, Va., where he began the state's first high school level education program for special needs students. In 1952, he started working with the FBI, serving under J. Edgar Hoover as a special agent. He earned numerous commendations and received a presidential appointment to the Office of Inspector General in the State Department. In 1963, he became a congressional liaison for Westinghouse Corp. and then for Penn Central Corp., both in Washington, D.C., retiring as senior vice president for congressional affairs in 1988. He enjoyed golf.

The memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 16, in the National Democratic Club, 30 Ivy St., SE, Washington, D.C. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to George Washington University, Department of Athletics, 1925 F St. NW, Washington, DC 20052.

Cynthia M. Sieniawski

MARLBORO -- Cynthia M. (Montville) Sieniawski, 38, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in Marlboro Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

She leaves her husband of 16 years, Andre Sieniawski; her mother and stepfather, Marion (Cox) Tripp and William “Red” Tripp of Marlboro; a daughter, Katelyn A. Sieniawski of Marlboro; a brother, Charles J. Coady of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Carolyn M. Sieniawski of Bolton; a nephew and two nieces. She was born in Miami, Fla., daughter of Ronald Montville, and graduated from Marlboro High School in 1980.

Mrs. Sieniawski enjoyed needlepoint and crafts. She was a volunteer sponsor with Alcoholics Anonymous for nine years.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the Lincoln Chapel at Sullivan-Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St. After cremation, burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home.

Jamie E. Smart, 17

Monday, February 5, 2001

TEMPLETON -- Jamie E. Smart, 17, of 14 South Main St., East Templeton, died Sunday, Feb. 4, from injuries suffered early Sunday in an automobile accident on Route 138, Milton.

She leaves her parents, David F. and Judith A. (Taintor) Smart of East Templeton; a brother, Scott D. Smart of Gardner; two sisters, Katrina A. Smart and Kristen L. Smart, both of East Templeton; her paternal grandparents, Franklin and Charlotte (Nosek) Smart of Gardner; her maternal grandparents, Russell and Joy (Reid) Taintor of East Templeton; a paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Shields of Gardner; a nephew. She was born in Leominster.

Ms. Smart was a senior at Narragansett Regional High School, Baldwinville. She was its Homecoming Queen this year. She was a captain and all-star member of the Field Hockey Team. She was a member of the school's DARE program, safety child program, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Arrow yearbook committee. She was sports editor for the yearbook committee, and was a member of the basketball and track teams, the junior prom committee and the Varsity Letterman's Club. She enjoyed art and photography, and was a photography assistant for the school's photography program.

She was a central district band participant, and was a Silver Key Award winner for the Boston Globe photo contest. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, East Templeton and worked at Olympia Sports and Mount Wachusett Ski Resort, Westminster. She enjoyed swimming, biking, and snowboarding.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, from the Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St., Gardner, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Lake Avenue, East Templeton. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Jamie E. Smart Arts Award, c/o Narragansett Regional High School, 464 Baldwinville Road, Baldwinville, MA 01436.

Jane E. Spadola, 66

WORCESTER -- Jane E. (Perkins) Spadola, 66, of 33 Wendover Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

Her husband, Donald Spadola, died in 1996. She leaves a brother, John Perkins of Leicester; a sister, Janice LaGorce of Worcester; a sister-in-law, Janice Laliberte, with whom she lived; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John M. and Irene (Knight) Perkins, and lived 18 years in North Attleboro before returning to Worcester. She attended Worcester Girls Trade High School and Broms Hair Dressing Academy.

Mrs. Spadola worked for Balfour's Jewelry Co., Attleboro, Gannon's Bakery and Hodes Supermarket before retiring. She was a member of St. Peter's Parish and was a Camp Fire Girls leader.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity.

Josephine M. Stanick

GRAFTON -- Josephine M. Stanick, 90, of 340 Providence Road, South Grafton, died Sunday, Dec. 31, in Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester.

She leaves a brother, Joseph J. Stanick of Worcester; two nieces; three grandnieces and a grandnephew. Five sisters, Jennie, Helen, Victoria and Emily Stanick, and Stella Chase, predeceased her. She was born in Northbridge, daughter of Vincent and Mary (Osak) Stanick.

Miss Stanick worked for the former Wuskanut Mill in South Grafton, and was a garment stitcher for the Samuel Goldberg Co. in Worcester for many years before her retirement. She was a member of St. James Church and the Grafton Senior Citizens Association.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, from Misiaszek Funeral Home, 124 Main St., South Grafton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the funeral home.

Kenneth I. St. Denis, 71

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Kenneth I. St. Denis, 71, of Cape Coral, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a retired machine operator, died Thursday, Jan. 25, in Cape Coral.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Janice (Page) St. Denis; two sons, David P. and John J. St. Denis, both of Worcester; two daughters, Lisa M. Duquette of Northbridge, Mass. and Joan S. Clarico of Milford, Mass.; eight grandchildren; a niece and several nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Leo and Betsy (Millward) St. Denis, and moved to Cape Coral in 1991.

Mr. St. Denis was a machine operator 20 years for Norton Co. in Worcester, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Worcester and Cape Coral.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Englewood, Colo. 80112. American Family Funeral Home, 2701 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, is directing arrangements.

John W. Stevenson, 79

CLINTON -- John W. Stevenson, 79, of 35 Fruit St., Worcester, formerly of 20 Candice St., a former World War II veteran, died Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Wayside House, after an illness.

He leaves a brother, Robert L. Stevenson of Worcester, formerly of Clinton; a sister, Ruth D. Perron of Leominster; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. He was born in Lancaster, son of John H. and Ida T. (Mahan) Stevenson, and lived most of his life in Clinton, before moving to Worcester in 1999. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Stevenson worked at the former Doll Shop, before becoming disabled during World War II. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 31, in the Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A calling hour will be held 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.
