Mary T. Geary, 80

Marstons Mills - Mary T. (Paragham) Geary, 80, a retired bank officer, died June 10 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

She was the wife of Joseph P. Geary for 56 years.

Born in New York City, she worked for 40 years for the former Chemical Bank in New York. For the last 10 years of her employment, she served as a bank officer until her retirement in 1981.

She moved from Riverdale, N.Y., to Marstons Mills in 1982.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Joan C. Tomcala of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; and a brother, Martin P. Paragham of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Osterville.

Burial followed at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Eva Ransden, 80

Marstons Mills - Eva (Tatseos) Ransden, 80, a Marstons Mills resident and former seamstress, died June 7 at Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth.

She was the wife of Proctor Ransden.

Born in Lowell, Mrs. Ransden attended Lowell High School. Later, she was employed by Textron Corp. as a seamstress and manufactured parachutes during World War II.

In later years, she became skilled and creative in needlecraft.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Glen Ransden of Framingham; a daughter, Linda Thomas of North Fatmouth; a sister, Jenny Psoinis of Nashua, N.H.; three brothers, William Tatseos of, Portland, Maine, Arthur Tatseos of Chelmsford and James Tatseos of Willimantic, Conn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of the Cape & Islands, 894 Mary Dunn Road, Hyannis, MA 02601; or EIder Services, 68 Route

Dr. Langdon A. Hooper,91

Osterville - Dr. Langdon A. Hooper, 91, of Osterville, formerly of Wellesley Hills, died June 6 at his home in Osterville.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn D. Hooper.

Born in Castine, Maine, he grew up in Auburn, Maine. He graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, in 1925, Yale University in 1929 and from Harvard University School of Medicine in 1936.

He lived in Wellesley Hills from 1940 to 1960 and was a member of the First Congregational Church, Wellesley Hills. He became a Master Mason, AF & AM in 1952 and a Grand Royal Arch Mason in 1957.

Dr. Hooper practiced obstetrics and gynecology at Mr. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge; Newton-Wellesley Hospital; Glover Memorial Hospital, Needham, where he started a medical library, and at Leonard Morse Hospital. He was also one of the rounding fellows of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

He did postgraduate work at the Institute of Cardiology, University of London in 1965, with a follow-on fellowship at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, San Diego, Calif., and was later elected to the American College of Cardiology in 1966.

In 1967, Dr. Hooper moved from his summer home in West Dennis to his permanent residence of Barnstable Village. It was at this time that he opened a practice in Hyannis, where he was affiliated with both Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals. He retired in the early 1990s, although he was known to visit an occasional patient through his 90th year.

He was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port and an active member of the Wianno Country Club for more than 30 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Schrader of Barnstable Village and Frances E. Dalmolen of Elmira, N.Y.; a son, Richard L. Hooper of Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port.

Burial was private.

Ethel L. (Winchell) Holmes, 92

Barnstable - Ethel L. (Winchell) Holmes, 92, a longtime Cape resident, died June 20,1998 at the Cape Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich of congestive heart failure.

She was the wife of the late Parker S. Holmes. Born in Milford, Mrs. Holmes lived most of her adult life in Cummaquid and Barnstable. Prior to her retirement in the early 1970s, she worked as a supervisor for the New England Telephone Co. Mrs. Holmes was a long-time member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Unitarian Church of Barnstable.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Robert White of Falmouth and Samuel White of Lawrence; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Alden Winchell of Dennisport. Graveside services were held at the Cummaquid Cemetery.

Alfred William Leclaire, 75

Hyannis - Alfred William Leclaire, 75, a former textile worker, died June 21, 1998 at his home in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Barbara (Roche) Leclaire. Born in Northbridge, Mr. Leclaire was educated in Upton schools, graduating in 1941 from high school. He lived most of his life in Milford until moving to Hyannis in 1987.

Mr. Leclaire was a blacksmith for the Draper corporation, a textile manufacturer, for many years until his retirement in 1986. He was also a bar manager for the Holliston Veterans of Foreign Wars. A World War II army veteran, he was an antiaircraft gunner in the 776th Battalion, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the disabled American Veterans and a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis.

He enjoyed shellfishing and all types of gardening and fishing.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Lawrence Leclaire, Richard Leclaire and Mark Leclaire, all of Milford, and Brian Leclaire of Uxbridge; two daughters, Maryellen Jennings of Needham and Sandra Tehan of Milford; a brother, Everett Leclaire of Ohio; a sister, Blanche Mitchell of Nevada; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Association of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Master Sgt. David Warren Montcalm, 60

San Antonio, Texas - Senior Master Sgt. David Warren Montcalm, U.S.A.F. retired, 60, former Cape resident, died at his home in San Antonio on May 28. He was the husband of Louisette Montcalm for 40 years. Born and raised in Hyannis, he served in the Air Force for 24 years and for his country in Vietnam. He received many commendation medals and awards. He was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Harriet (Zukowski) Montcalm of Hyannis; two daughters, Annick Poloskey of San Antonio and Patricia West of Universal City; five brothers; three sisters; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held in San Antonio.

Durward U. Morin, 70

Jacksonport, Wis. - Durward U. Morin, 70, formerly of Hyannis, died June 8,1998 at his home in Jacksonport.

He was the husband of Viola (0lsen) Morin. Born in Hyannis, Mr. Morin lived in Hyannis for 40 years before moving to Wisconsin. He was a self-employed gunsmith until he was forced to retire early because of illness. An Air Force veteran, he was a part of the Berlin Airlift and received a citation for being part of it.

In retirement, he received state and national trophies for pistol and rifle shooting in Wisconsin.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters of New Hampshire; stepsons and stepdaughters of Wisconsin; a sister, Ruth F. Chute of Maine; a brother, Robert N. Morin of Marstons Mills; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial were held in Jacksonport.

Catherine Foye Sproul, 98

Jacksonville, N.C. - Catherine Foye Sproul, 98, who leaves a daughter in Centerville, died June 19, 1998 at her home in Jacksonville with family at her side.

She was the wife of the late Herbert C. Sproul. Raised in Brookline, Mrs. Sproul moved to Ridgewood, N.J., after her marriage. There she raised four children and was active in her church. After her husband's death, she moved to Hyannis. While on the Cape, she was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church and lived in Hyannis until 1995.

She then moved to Jacksonville and lived there with family until her death. Mrs. Sproul enjoyed reading and knitting. She was also a wonderful story teller who made history come alive with stories from her own long lifetime. Her memories went back to horse-and-buggy days, which she could describe with vivid flair and color. Most important to her was her church, to which she was actively devoted even in the last days of her life.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Brown of Jacksonville and Virginia Duquette of Centerville; two sons, Richard M. Sproul of Astoria, Ore., and Robert C. Sproul of Montvale, N.J. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren. From the Cape, they are Daralyn (Duquette) Hebditch of Brewster, Donald Duquette Jr. of Wellfleet, and Barbara (Duquette) Snow of Centerville. She also leaves 16 great-grandchildren. From the Cape are Joelle Meunier and Nicholas Hebditch, Brewster; Jacqueline, Spenser and Travis Duquette of Wellfleet; and Emily Snow of Centerville. She also leaves a cousin, William Drew of Falmouth; two nieces; and two grandnieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial was followed by burial in the George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, N.J.

Anne E. (Dobrzanski) Tobojka, 55

Taunton - Anne E. (Dobrzanski) Tobojka, 55, a resident of Cotuit for 13 years, died June 18, 1998 at her parents' home in Taunton.

She was the wife of Richard B. Tobojka and daughter of Emil and Josephine (Hull) Dobrzanski of Taunton. Born and educated in Taunton, she graduated from Taunton High School in 1961 and from Fitchburg State College in 1965. An elementary special education coordinator at Marlboro public schools, she worked there for 32 years and retired in May due to illness.

Mrs. Tobojka was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Taunton. She was a member of the Marlboro Educators Association, serving on the negotiating team for many years defending teachers' interests. An avid athlete, she enjoyed skiing, golf and tennis. She also enjoyed traveling and vacationing in Florida.

Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Roberta Fogo of Englewood, Fla.; a stepson, Richard Tobojka of Barnstable; a brother, Stephen P. Dobrzanski of Taunton; an aunt and uncle; a niece; and a grandniece. A Mass of Christian burial was followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Taunton.

Russell A. Young, 33

Hyannis - Russell A. Young, 33, died unexpectedly June 17, 1998 in Yarmouth.

He was the son of Robert B. Young Sr. of Harwich and Mildred ( White ) Young of Bourne. Born in Wareham, he was educated in Bourne schools and moved to Hyannis 13 years ago.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons, Robert Allen Young and Russell Ray Young, both of Hyannis; two brothers, Robert B. Young Jr. and Eric Paul Young, both of Hyannis; four sisters, Pauline Gonsalves of Fall River, Marie Dick of Stuart, Fla., Debbie Young of New Bedford and Artira Maggi of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was followed by private burial.

Unealda "Eva" (Sala) Chase, 98

West Hyannisport - Unealda "Eva" (Sala) Chase, 98, former clerk at a local bakery, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.

She was the wife of the late Ralph E. Chase. Mrs. Chase was born in Wareham and educated in Bridgewater schools. She moved to Hyannis in 1954 and worked as a clerk for Martin's Bakery in Hyannis.

She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis.

Mrs. Chase is survived by a grandson, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial was private. Memorial donations may be made to the Hyannis Rescue Squad, 95 High School Rd. Extension, Hyannis, Mass. 02601.
