MILFORD -- Michael L. Alberto Sr., 84, of 13 Domenic St., a retired custodian, died Saturday, Aug. 4, in Sunbridge for Milford.

His wife, Leisbeth (Wuenscher) Alberto, died in 1998. He leaves a son, Michael L. Alberto Jr. of Milford; three daughters, Francine Ahearn of Toms River, N. J., Virginia Mattingly of Wildoma, Calif., and Elizabeth Alberto of Milford; three brothers, Frederick and Guido Alberto, both of Milford, and Francis Alberto of Dennis; two sisters, Mary Ciaramicoli of Milford and Gloria DePaolo of Hopedale; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Joseph, Louis and Mario Alberto, predeceased him. He was born in Milford, son of Frank and Julia (Gala) Alberto, and graduated from Milford High School in 1934.

Mr. Alberto was a custodian at Framingham State College, retiring in 1977. He was previously a shoe worker at the former Dermon and Milford shoe companies.

He was a founding member of the Milford Forgiano Club, and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a Mass at 12:30 p. m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 5 East Main St. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 9 p. m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the funeral home.

Anthony P. Almeida, 86

FALMOUTH -- Anthony P. “Pluggy” Almeida, 86, of Falmouth, formerly of Holden and Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, July 24, in Royal Nursing & Alzheimer's Center from complications with Alzheimer's disease.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Emma (Raye) Almeida; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Valade of Pocasset; a sister, Rose Cabral of Hyannis; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three sisters, Emily Almeida, Bridget Sproat and Mary Brunelle, and three brothers, Joe, Manuel and Leonard Almeida, predeceased him. He was born, raised and educated in Falmouth, son of Manuel and Ernestine (Mello) Almeida, and lived in Holden and Shrewsbury. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

Mr. Almeida was a truck driver before retiring.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a. m. Friday, July 27, in St. Patrick's Church, Main Street. Burial will be at 1:30 p. m. Friday, July 27, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p. m. Thursday, July 26, in Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity.

Richard T. Antil, 57

LEOMINSTER -- Richard T. Antil, 57, of Leominster, formerly of Gardner, died Thursday, July 30, at home.

He leaves his wife, Wanda J. Antil; a sister, Phyllis Gaudet of Colorado; a brother, Robert Antil of Leominster; three stepchildren, Yvonne Holden of Shrewsbury, Beverly Wells of Virginia, and Bradley Crouch of Florida; three step-grandchildren; five nieces. He was born in Gardner, and graduated from Oakmont Regional High School in Gardner. He lived 27 years in Leominster. He was a Marine Corps veteran.

The funeral services will be private and at a later date. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to DVNA Hospice, 316 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Cremation Society of Massachusetts, 26 Adams St., Quincy, MA 02169.

WORCESTER -- Siranoosh “Sally” (Simonian) Arakelian, 85, of 46 Sagamore Road, died Saturday, July 21, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, after being stricken ill at home.

Her husband of 12 years, Arthur Arakelian, died in 1963. She leaves a stepson, Arthur N. Arakelian of Shrewsbury; a nephew and two nieces. Three brothers, Henry Simmons of Belmont, Joseph Simonian of Watertown, and Robert Simonian of Pawtucket, R. I., and a sister, Veronica Yagoobian of Worcester, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Stephan and Sophia (Berberian) Simonian, and graduated from Commerce High School in 1934.

Mrs. Arakelian was a customer service representative for Mekontrol Co. in Northboro for more than 25 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour and Stella Chapter 3 Order of the Eastern Star.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, July 25, from Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., with a service at 11 a. m. in Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, July 25, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour Memorial Fund, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.

SHREWSBURY -- Homer J. Audette, 90, of 35 Julio Drive, formerly of Sumner Street, Auburn, died Saturday, July 21, at home.

His wife, Eleanor J. (Anderson) Audette, died in 1998. He leaves a stepdaughter, Joyce B. Virostek of Douglas; a sister, Clarice L. McInnis of Shrewsbury; two step-grandchildren, Erik Virostek and Rachel Zurowski, both of Douglas. He was born in Auburn, son of Joseph and Sarah (Dusseault) Audette, and lived many years in Auburn before moving to Shrewsbury in 1994. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1929.

Mr. Audette was assistant vice president of Guaranty Bank and Trust for 41 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn, and was a member of Elks Lodge 243 in Worcester. He was a member of Nordic Lodge 611 Vasa Order of America in Worcester.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday, July 24, in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn, is directing arrangements.

Maureen F. Backiel, 62

HUDSON -- Maureen F. Backiel, 62, of 17 Wellington Drive, died Sunday, July 22, at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Peter Backiel; her mother, Mary Petrosek of Foxboro; three sons, Peter Backiel Jr. and Paul Backiel, both of Clinton, and Mark Backiel of Hudson; a sister, Sandra Esmond of Foxboro; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was born in Northampton, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kulessa) Petrosek, and graduated from Northampton High School in 1956. She also graduated from the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Backiel was a nurse at McClain Hospital in Belmont, and worked at Elder Care Home Services. She was later associate director of nursing at Middlesex Hospital.

She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in South Deerfield.

The funeral service will be held at 9:10 a. m. Wednesday, July 25, from Wrisley Funeral Home, 90 Sugarloaf St., South Deerfield, with a Mass at 10 a. m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p. m. Tuesday, July 24, in the funeral home.

WARREN -- Rose M. (Gondek) Banas, 82, of Miller Drive, died Friday, Aug. 3, at home.

She leaves her husband of 61 years, John Banas; two sons, John M. Banas of Warren and Thomas M. Banas of Fiskdale; several nephews and nieces. She was born in Warren, daughter of Walter and Karolina (Furgal) Gondek, and graduated from Warren High School in 1936.

Mrs. Banas worked at the former Cecelia's Hair Salon in Spencer from 1931 to 1941.

She was a clerk in real estate, working with her husband.

She was an avid gardener and arborist.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are private. Donations may be made to Harrington Memorial Home Care & Hospice, 61 Pine St., Southbridge, MA 01550 or to the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Palmer, is directing arrangements.

PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. -- Raymond C. Bardsley, 82, of Port St. John, formerly of Fitchburg, Mass., a World War II veteran and a retired business owner, died Thursday, Aug. 2, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital in Leominster, Mass.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Teresa (Roberts) Bardsley; two daughters, Norma Jean Quinn of Ashburnham, Mass., and Kathleen Rozea of Vienna, Va. ; a son, Charles Bardsley of Port St. John; two sisters, Cecilia Low of Melbourne and Ruth Woolard of St. Louis; a brother, Benjamin Bardsley of Omaha, Neb. ; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Neola, Iowa, son of Walter and Emma (Wright) Bardsley. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Bardsley owned Ray's Variety and South Street Variety stores and was a school custodian in Fitchburg. He was a member of Port St. John Senior Community Center.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a. m. Monday, Aug. 6, in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., Leominster. There are no local calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Port St. John Seniors, c/o Jack Coppola, president, 1230-B Cheney Highway, Titusville, FL 32780.

SPENCER -- Diane T. (Garabedian) Beaudin, 43, of 95 Wilson Ave., formerly of Holden, an elementary school teacher, died Tuesday, July 31, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 13 years, Robert U. Beaudin; her father, Robert Garabedian of Rutland; two sisters, Linda Scott of Sterling and Mary Garabedian Gomez of Rutland; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Anita (Vachon) Garabedian, and lived in Holden before moving to Spencer 13 years ago. She graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, Holden, and earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Worcester State College, a master's degree in education from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a second master's degree from Anna Maria College, Paxton.

Mrs. Beaudin taught first grade for 15 years and then fourth grade for three years at Houghton School, Sterling. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. She loved cats and enjoyed traveling, boating, cribbage, and snowmobiling.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a. m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p. m. Friday, Aug. 3, in Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spencer Animal Control, 22 Norcross Road, Spencer, MA 01562.

PASADENA, Calif. -- Lucy N. (Shelley) Bert, 76, formerly of Fitchburg, died Thursday, July 19, in Pasadena.

She leaves her husband of 45 years, Paul F. Bert; a son, Jonathan V. Bert of Pasadena; a daughter, Suzanne V. Bert of Pasadena; two sisters, Eleanor F. and Virginia D. Shelley; and grandchildren. A brother, Walter P. Pshalgauskas, predeceased her. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of William J. and Ona Pshalgauskas and moved to Pasadena 43 years ago. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1942 and from Westbrook College, Portland, Maine, in 1944.

Mrs. Bert worked at the Bank of America for 20 years, retiring in 1997.

A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday, July 25, in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour is 10:30 to 11:30 a. m. Wednesday, July 25, in the Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St., Fitchburg.
