Joseph L. Mariano, 80
MARLBORO -- Joseph L. Mariano, 80, of Marlboro, died Wednesday, July 25, at home after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 46 years, Albina T. (Zarba) Mariano; a son, Joseph P. Mariano of Southboro; a daughter, Judith A. Moynihan of Marlboro; two sisters, Mary Ciotti of New Port Richey, Fla., and Gloria DeDomenico of Revere; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Carmella Tozza of Saugus, predeceased him. He was born in East Boston, son of Louis and Olympia (Ciccarelli) Mariano, and moved to Marlboro in 1955. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Mariano was a civilian accountant for 23 years for the U. S. Government at Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford. He was a longtime member of St. Ann's Parish.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, July 30, from William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, 466 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Southboro. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Ann's Church Memorial Fund, 466 Lincoln St., Marlboro, MA 01752.

Matondi infants

Matondi infants
MILFORD -- Gregory and Jeremy Matondi, two of triplet infants born to Kenneth J. and Brenda J. (Harding) Matondi of Alden Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester. A sister, Katherine Ann Matondi, died July 11.

Besides their parents, they leave a brother, Anthony P. Matondi at home; their maternal grandmother, Annie (Lang) Harding of the Whitinsville section of Northbridge; their paternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen (Ruggiero) Matondi of Milford; and their paternal great-grandmother, Mary Ruggiero of Milford. A sister, Katherine Ann Matondi, died July 11.

The graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Neonatal Fund, UMass Memorial Healthcare, 119 Belmont St., Worcester, MA 01605. Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., is directing arrangements.

Ruth S. May; first female bus driver, motel owner
AUBURN -- Ruth S. (Perry) May, of 3 Pine St., Oxford, formerly of 200 Oxford Road, died Saturday, July 21, in SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation-Sandalwood in Oxford after an illness.

Her husband, Samuel A. May, died in 1990. She leaves a daughter, Sally A. Graves of Auburn; a brother, Richard C. Perry of Lynn; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, Ernest Perry Jr., a sister, Eleanor Beauchene, and two grandsons predeceased her. She was born in Revere, daughter of Ernest Perry Sr. and Maude S. (Dykeman) Perry, and lived many years in Lynn and 68 years in Auburn. She graduated from Lynn English High School.

Along with her husband, Mrs. May owned and operated the May Basket Motel in Auburn for several years. When employed by R. H. White, she became the first female bus driver in Auburn. She was also a former truant officer for Auburn Schools.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, and at one time was active in its women's group. She was also a member of Pakachoag Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was also president of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce in 1969.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA 01501.

William E. McCabe, 67

NASHUA, N. H. -- William E. McCabe, 67, of 10 Coleridge Road, formerly of Marlboro, Mass., an engineer, died Sunday, July 22, at home.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Joan (Biondi) McCabe; two sons, Michael McCabe of Indiatlantic, Fla., and Edward McCabe of Milford; two daughters, Teresa Healey of Nashua and Jennifer McCabe of Jersey City, N. J. ; a sister, Pauline Queen of Marlboro; five grandchildren. A brother, John McCabe, predeceased him. He was born in Marlboro, son of John and Helen (Kaminski) McCabe, and graduated from Marlboro High School in 1951. He also graduated from Worcester Technical College. He lived 26 years in Nashua.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. McCabe was an engineer more than 28 years for Honeywell-Bull Co., retiring in 1993. He previously worked at Sylvania Corp.

He was an avid golfer, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, from Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Road. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Dialysis Unit, 8 Prospect St., Nashua, NH 03060.

Sr. Mary M. McDonald

Sr. Mary M. McDonald
WORCESTER -- Sister Mary Mercedes McDonald, 97, of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, died Monday, July 23, in Our Lady of Mercy Healthcare Center.

She leaves two nephews and a niece; many grandnieces and grandnephews; many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; several great-great-grandnieces and great-great-grandnephews. She was born in New Haven, Conn., daughter of John S. and Ellen (Work) McDonald.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1921, and professed her vows in 1923. She professed her final vows in 1929, and graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D. C.

Sister Mary Mercedes taught at the former Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart, and St. Paul schools. She was principal at St. Paul School, St. Patrick School in Largo, Fla., and St. Edward School in Stafford Springs, Conn.

She was supervisor of schools for the Worcester Diocese for several years, and received the Seton Award in 1981 for contribution to the Diocese's Catholic Education Program. She was general councilor and treasurer for the Sisters of Mercy.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the Sisters of Mercy Convent Chapel, 101 Barry Road, Worcester. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the convent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 101 Barry Road, Worcester, MA 01609. Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., is directing arrangements.

Evelyn C. McGee, 83

GRAFTON -- Evelyn C. (Bonner) McGee, 83, of 21 Orchard St., South Grafton, a former nurse's aide, died Saturday, July 21, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves a sister, Rita A. Boutiette of West Wareham; two nephews and a niece; grandnephews and grandnieces. A brother, Ernest Bonner of South Grafton, and a sister, Eva Lefebvre of Pawtucket, R. I., predeceased her. She was born in South Grafton, daughter of Peter and Clara (Bazinet) Bonner, and lived there her entire life.

Mrs. McGee was a nurse's aide many years at the Jewish Home for the Aged, Worcester. Previously, she worked eight years as an assembler at Phalo Plastics, Co., Shrewsbury.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Parish, St. Margaret's Circle, Daughters of Isabella, and the South Grafton Elders Association.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, July 25, from Misiaszek Funeral Home, 124 Main St., South Grafton, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the funeral home, and will include a 7 p.m. ritual by St. Margaret's Circle, Daughters of Isabella. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton, MA 01560.

OXFORD -- Ruth B. (Buffum) McKinstry, 92, of 57 Conlin Road, a retired nurse and greyhound activist, died Thursday, July 19, at home after a long illness.

Her husband, Myron C. McKinstry, died in 1993. She leaves two daughters, Elizabeth R. McKinstry of Oxford and Marilyn B. Woodburn of Tallahassee, Fla. ; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She was born in Somerville, daughter of James and Mary E. (Dixon) Buffum, and lived in New Hampshire and Tallahassee before moving to Oxford.

Mrs. McKinstry was a nurse many years at Elliot Hospital in Keene, N. H., Aldworth Manor in Harrisville, N. H., and St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. She retired many years ago.

She also operated a kindergarten out of her home in Wilton, N. H. She was a member and past master of the Wilton Grange, and was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Tallahassee. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge, and volunteered at the Georgia Bell apartments in Florida. She was a member of the Hoot and Holler Club, and was a member of the Saints and Sinners Band until 1996. She was a noted orator in her community.

She was a founding member of REGAP, an organization dedicated to saving greyhounds.

The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606. Robert J. Miller-Oxford Funeral Home, 247 Main St., is directing arrangements.

ATHOL -- Julia D. (Augustine) Letourneau, 85, of 5 Ellsworth St., died Saturday, Aug. 4, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare.

Her husband of 49 years, Joseph R. Letourneau, died in 1990. She leaves two sons, John A. Letourneau of Athol and Joseph L. Letourneau of Gilbert, Ariz. ; three daughters, Janet Mann of Templeton, Gloria Laffond of Athol and Anna Upshaw of Lilburn, Ga. ; a brother, George Augustine of Athol; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, John and Ludwig Augustine, predeceased her. She was born in Orange, daughter of Joseph R. and Josephine (Rasinskaite) Augustine, and lived many years in Orange before moving to Athol in 1953. She graduated from Orange High School in 1934.

Mrs. Letourneau worked 11 years at L. S. Starrett Co., retiring in 1981. She previously worked for Eastern Furniture Co. and Torrington Needle Co. and Orange Shoe Shop, both in Orange. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She was a seamstress, photographer and gardener who enjoyed sports, including basketball.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, from Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the funeral home.

Marion E. Lindblad, 85

PHILLIPSTON -- Marion E. (Patterson) Lindblad, 85, of Lincoln Road, a retired nurse, died Sunday, July 22, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare after a brief illness.

She leaves her husband, Karl F. Lindblad Jr. ; a son, James Oikle of Brunswick, Maine; a brother, Gordon Patterson of Leicester; two grandsons; nephews and nieces. A son, Charles G. Oikel, died in infancy in 1944. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Gilbert and Mathilda Patterson. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, and from David Hale Fanning Trade High School's licensed practical nursing program, Worcester, at age 45.

Mrs. Lindblad was a nurse at Worcester State Hospital until retiring and then was active in providing housing for patients upon their release from the hospital. During World War II, she worked at Norton Co., Worcester. She was a member of Phillipston Congregational Church and was formerly active in the Ladies Benevolent Society.

Mrs. Lindblad donated her body to UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, for medical research. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Phillipston Congregational Church, Phillipston Center. Memorial donations may be made to Phillipston Congregational Church, Phillipston Center, MA 01331.
