Irene LaFlamme, 79
BROOKFIELD -- Irene (Chartier) LaFlamme, 79, of Rice Corner Road, formerly of Southbridge, died Thursday, July 19, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Ralph LaFlamme; a daughter, Jeanne Lurie of Marietta, Ga. ; a brother, Henry Chartier of Sturbridge; two sisters, Flora Fuller of Fiskdale, and Rita Bond of Charlton; four grandchildren; a great -- granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Rita Logan of Miami, died in 2000. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Hormidas and Rosalie (Belletete) Chartier, and lived there until moving many years ago to Brookfield.

Mrs. LaFlamme was a member of St. Mary's Parish and Friends of the Brookfield Library. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge. There are no calling hours. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.

Henry G. Lamb, 95

Henry G. Lamb, 95
WESTBORO -- Henry G. Lamb, 95, of 3 Ward St., a nuclear standards engineer, died Sunday, July 22, in Westboro Healthcare Center.

His wife, Ruth M. (Miller) Lamb, predeceased him. He leaves a daughter, Patricia M. Steen of Westboro; a sister, Gertrude Bezanson of Waterford, Conn. ; two grandsons; a great-grandchild. A brother, John Lamb, and a sister, Octavia Snell, predeceased him. He was born in Saco, Maine, son of Charles B. and Fannie M. (Prentiss) Lamb, and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Franklin in 1922. He received a degree from Dartmouth College in 1926 and from MIT in 1928. He lived three years in Westboro.

Mr. Lamb was a nuclear standards engineer at the National Standards Institute in New York City before retiring.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Freedom, N. H., the American Society of Engineers, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Industrial Hygiene Association, Carroll Lodge 57 in Freedom, Richard C. Maclaurin Lodge in Cambridge, and the Valley of White Plains AASR Shriners in White Plains, N. Y.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in First Christian Church of Freedom in Freedom, N. H. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church of Freedom, PO Box 502, Freedom, NH 03836. Rand-Harper-Pickering Westboro Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., is directing arrangements.

GRAFTON -- Frank L. “Red” Mallalieu, 75, of 6 Countryside Road, a World War II veteran and a retired pharmacist, died Saturday, Aug. 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Helen P. (Bissonnette) Moore-Mallalieu; two daughters, Paula E. Quartulli of South Grafton and Lois M. Magni of Hudson; five stepdaughters, Susan E. Butler of Southbridge, Judi A. Flood and Marianne Tripp, both of Millbury, Dodie E. Langlois of Oxford and Paula E. Moore of Grafton; a stepson, Kevin D. Moore of Worcester; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His first wife, Phyllis M. (Larrivee) Mallalieu, died in 1985. A daughter, Pamela A. Gemme, died in 1989; a stepdaughter, Kristina M. Richard, died in 1992; and a granddaughter died in 1994. He was born in Worcester, son of Ben and Susanna (Ratcliffe) Mallalieu, and graduated from Grafton High School in 1943. He was in the Navy during World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific, and then graduated from New England College of Pharmacy, Boston, in 1950.

Mr. Mallalieu worked for Fisher Drugs in Worcester. In 1961, he bought Village Drugs, Northbridge, which he operated until 1981. He was then a pharmacist at Buffum Drugs in Worcester, Finn's Pharmacy in South Grafton, St. Camillus Healthcare in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, and Rosetti's Grafton Pharmacy, retiring because of illness last year.

He was a member of St. James Church, South Grafton, its Parish Council, Massachusetts Pharmaceutical Association, Benedict Council 2379 Grafton-Millbury Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1497, South Grafton. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Lifehouse Inc., Worcester, volunteered at the Grafton Senior Center, and participated in the annual Walk for Life in Worcester since it's inception. He enjoyed skiing.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, from Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, South Grafton. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial donations made to St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton, MA 01560; or to Lifehouse Inc., 50 Franklin St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Miriam A. Medeiros, 80

WARREN -- Miriam A. (Perry) Medeiros, 80, of Southbridge Road, died Saturday, July 21, in the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, Worcester.

She leaves her husband, Abel G. Medeiros of North Brookfield; a son, James A. Medeiros of Barnstable; two daughters, Anita G. Guzik of Warren and Victoria J. Little of Gilbertville; three brothers, Gerald F. Perry of Oxford, Donald Perry of Saco, Maine, and George Perry of Warren; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Provincetown, daughter of Anthony J. and Gertrude C. (Pervier) Perry, and graduated from Sandwich High School in 1939. She lived 25 years in Warren and 11 years in West Brookfield before returning to Warren in 1990.

Mrs. Medeiros worked 20 years with mentally retarded children at the Monson Developmental Center, retiring in 1989.

A member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, West Brookfield, she taught religious education and was an Eucharistic minister there. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years.

The funeral Mass will be held at noon Wednesday, July 25, in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, West Main Street, West Brookfield. A calling hour is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, West Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Renovation Fund, PO Box 563, West Brookfield, MA 01585.

Rysya L. Meltser, 87

Rysya L. Meltser, 87
WORCESTER -- Rysya L. “Ruth” Meltser, 87, formerly of 425 Pleasant St., a retired carpenter, died Monday, July 23, in the Jewish Healthcare Center.

She leaves a brother, Yefim Meltser of Worcester; a niece and a nephew. A brother, Michael Meltser, and two sisters, Sonya and Genya Meltser, all of Russia, predeceased her. She was born in Russia, daughter of Leiba and Esther (Gadalkina) Meltser, and moved to Worcester in 1992.

Miss Meltser was a carpenter in a furniture factory in Russia.

A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, July 24, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery, Leicester. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Yeshiva Achei Timimim, 22 Newton Ave., Worcester, MA 01602.

LEOMINSTER -- Herman R. Mitchem Sr., 70, of 147B Litchfield Pine Drive, a career serviceman, died Monday, July 23, in Keystone Nursing Center.

He leaves his wife of 25 years, Helen V. (Watters) Mitchem; five sons, Herman R. Mitchem Jr., Donald, John and Lee Mitchem, all in New Jersey, and Michael Mitchem of Leominster; a stepdaughter, Darlene Spencer of Leominster; a brother, Edward Mitchem in West Virginia; two sisters, Gay Stone in Virginia and Bera Church in Florida; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Two brothers, Gilbert and Arthur Mitchem, predeceased him. He was born in Davy, W. Va., son of John B. and Liza Ann (Justice) Mitchem.

Mr. Mitchem served 24 years in the Army. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and received the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

He was a member of Savior Lutheran Church in Westminster and the Disabled American Veterans.

The graveside service, with military honors, will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fanrock Flood Victims, c/o Fanrock Rescue Squad and Fire Department, PO Box 28, Fanrock, WV 24834.

GARDNER -- Michael C. Monette, 49, of 85 Ridgewood Lane, died Saturday, July 22, at a friend's home in Athol.

He leaves his parents, Cleo E. and Shirley A. (Smith) Monette of Gardner; his wife of 19 years, Cindy L. (Strazdas) Monette of Westminster; a son, Joshua J. Monette of Westminster; two daughters, Heather L. Monette of Gardner and Aimee L. Monette of Westminster; a brother, Daniel J. Monette of Royalston; two sisters, Jill M. Cormier of Gardner and Holly A. Nuzzo of Boston; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Gardner, and attended Mount Wachusett Community College.

Mr. Monette was a construction worker for Laborers Local LIUNA 39 in Fitchburg. He previously worked for Boucher Construction Co., and previously owned and operated Monette Concrete Co. in Royalston.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, the Deep Sea Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 747, the Beagle Club, and the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club in Athol.

A funeral service will be held will be held Thursday, July 26, from Boucher Funeral Home Inc., 110 Nichols St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to a charity.

Anna R. Moreau, 98

WORCESTER -- Anna R. (Kittredge) Moreau, 98, formerly of Mill St., died Wednesday, Aug. 1, in Clark Manor Nursing Home after a long illness.

She leaves two sons, Joseph Moreau of Auburn, and William Moreau of Phoenix; and five grandchildren. Two sons, Harold and John Moreau, predeceased her. She was born in Clinton, daughter of John and Hanna (Kittredge) Kittredge, and moved to Worcester in 1972.

Ms. Moreau was the former owner of the Oxford Hotel, Clinton, and was an executive nanny for many years.

The funeral service will be private. The burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Clinton. Alfred Roy and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., is directing arrangements.

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- Cecile (Murette) Morgane, 75, of Kennebunkport, formerly of Shrewsbury, Mass., a former business founder and operator, died Thursday, July 19, at home from cancer.

She leaves her husband, Peter Morgane; and several cousins in France. She was born in Paris, France, and lived under the German Occupation of France from 1940 to 1944 before moving to the United States in 1964. She lived in Shrewsbury until 1994, when she moved to Kennebunkport, where she summered since 1980. She earned a baccalaureate degree from the University of Paris.

Mrs. Morgane founded and operated Shrewsbury Travel from 1975 to 1984. She was active in the Book Club at Graves Memorial Library and was a conservationist and supporter of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. She enjoyed traveling.

The funeral was held in Kennebunk. Burial was in Arundel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Maine Health and Home Care Hospice, Route 1, Kennebunk, ME 04043; or to Louis T. Graves Memorial Library, PO Box 391, Kennebunkport, ME 04046. FALMOUTH -- Donald F. Munyan, 79, of North Falmouth and Oldsmar, Fla., formerly of West Brookfield, a World War II veteran and a retired publishing industry worker, died Monday, July 23, in JML Care Center after a short illness.

He leaves a daughter, Patricia A. Fairbanks of North Falmouth; two sisters, Virginia Collins of East Longmeadow and Marilyn Hatch of West Springfield; two grandchildren; four nieces and a nephew. He was born in Springfield, son of Frederick and Florence (Leary) Munyan, and lived in West Brookfield, Manhattan and New Rochelle, N. Y., before moving to North Falmouth and Oldsmar. He attended Bryant College in Smithfield, R. I., and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant.

Mr. Munyan worked for Curtis Publishing, Fawcett Publications and McGraw-Hill. He was a division manager for 15 years for Hearst Corp., New York, retiring in 1987. He then was a consultant for Business Week until December. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, North Falmouth, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Moose and the Elks.

The memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Quaker Road, North Falmouth. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675. Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., is directing arrangements.

BARRE -- Danijela (Kobiles) Nachtigall, 70, of 257 West St., a retired machine operator, died Thursday, Aug. 2, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves her husband, Rudy Nachtigall; a son, Marko Nachtigall of Dudley; two daughters, Olga Turner of Burlington, Vt., and Mary Antocci of Barre; two sisters, Pavla Kozelj and Pepci Sraj, both of Slovenia; and two grandchildren. She was born in Yugoslavia, daughter of Ignatz and Jozesa Kobiles, and moved to the United States in 1958. She lived the past 40 years in Barre.

Mrs. Nachtigall was a teacher in Yugoslavia. She then was a machine operator for 20 years at Simplex, formerly of Gardner and now of Westminster, retiring in 1993.

The funeral service will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, PO Box 1010, Torrance, CA 90505. Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 South Barre Road, is directing arrangements.
