Friday, November 30, 2001

BOYLSTON -- The funeral Mass for William F. Edmonds Jr., 70, of Boylston, who died Tuesday, Nov. 27, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 46 Boylston St., Clinton. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Clinton.

He leaves his wife of 47 years; four sons; two daughters; and six grandchildren. Born in Springfield, he graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, and from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Edmonds was a general contractor, and held leadership positions at several regional contracting and engineering concerns, including Clinton-based EMI Corp. and American Technological Corp. in Dalton. He was a member, eucharistic minister and religious instructor at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Clinton.

Paul A. Gibeault, 65
Wednesday, November 28, 2001

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Paul A. Gibeault, 65, of 494 Hamilton St., an Air Force veteran, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

He leaves two sons, Gary and Brian Gibeault, both of Southbridge; a brother, Armand J. Gibeault of Southbridge; a sister, Madeline L. Hebert of Vermont; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Southbridge, son of Armand O. and Claire M. (Millette) Gibeault, and lived his entire life here.

Mr. Gibeault worked many years at Schott Fiber Optic, retiring several years ago. He was an avid sports fan.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Sacred Heart Church, 30 Charlton St. Burial will be in New Notre Dame cemetery at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., 495 Old Connecticut Path, Framingham, MA 01701.

Patricia A. Hall, 57
Wednesday, November 28, 2001

WEST BOYLSTON -- Patricia A. Hall, 57, of 168 West Boylston St., died Monday, Nov. 26, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.

She leaves her mother, Rita L. (Bregola) Hall of West Boylston; a brother, Roger W. Hall Jr. of West Boylston; a nephew and a niece. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Roger W. Hall Sr. She graduated from David Fanning High School, Worcester.

Miss Hall was the former manager of Gerardo's Bakery in Westboro. She previously was a hostess at Howard Johnson's Restaurant and the Franklin Manor, both in West Boylston. She was also a hostess at Barber's Crossing, Sterling. She was a member of First Congregational Church, West Boylston.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in First Congregational Church, 26 Central St. Burial will be private in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UMass Memorial Renal Transplant Fund, 55 Lake Ave., North, Worcester, MA 01605; or the West Boylston Ambulance Fund, 39 Worcester St., West Boylston, MA 01583.

Irene L. Harrington, 84
Friday, November 30, 2001

RUSKIN, Fla. -- Irene L. (Lorimer) Harrington, 84, of Ruskin, formerly of Spencer, Mass., a nurse, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Life Path Hospice House of Sun City, after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Robert E. Harrington; three sons, Jeffrey Harrington of Homosassa, David Harrington of Portsmouth, N.H., and Donald Harrington of Edgartown, Mass.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Stephen Harrington of Worcester, Mass., died in 1999. She moved to Florida from Spencer in 1999.

Mrs. Harrington was a registered nurse in the Worcester area for several years.

The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in Rural Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Elaine C. Hoenig, 84
Thursday, November 29, 2001

PASCOAG, R.I. -- Elaine C. (Ducharme) Hoenig, 84, of Pascoag, a former textile worker, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Overlook Nursing Home.

Her husband, George J. Hoenig, died in 1983. She leaves a son, Richard Hoenig of the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, Mass.; a daughter, Beverly Sherman of Pascoag; two sisters, Jeanne and Jacquiline Ducharme, both of Pascoag; two brothers, Ronald and Robert Ducharme, both of Pascoag; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hoenig was a textile worker at the former Uxbridge-Worcester Mills and worked at Zambrano Hospital, retiring in 1982.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 29, from Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave. with a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

John J. Jeffrey, 64
Monday, November 26, 2001

DELMAR, N.Y. -- John J. Jeffrey, 64, of Delmar, formerly of Worcester, a biochemistry professor, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y.

He leaves his wife, Ann (Meyer) Jeffrey; a sister, Judith Maillet of Auburn, Mass.; a brother Jerold Jeffrey of Dudley, Mass; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Margaret (Loughlin) Jeffrey. He graduated from Commerce High School and the College of the Holy Cross. He later earned a doctorate degree from Georgetown University and performed postdoctorate work at Harvard University.

Mr. Jeffrey was a professor of biochemistry at Albany Medical College. Previously, he taught at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. Philip's Cemetery, Grafton, Mass. Barbara E. Lanzilli, 77
Monday, November 26, 2001

SHREWSBURY -- Barbara E. (Case) Lanzilli, 77, formerly of Tory Drive, a women's rights activist and volunteer, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Hermitage Nursing Home, Worcester, after a long illness.

Her husband of 48 years, Joseph P. Lanzilli, died in 1999. She leaves two daughters, Valery J. Govostes of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Nancy A. Mello of Ipswich; three grandchildren; three nieces. She was born in Boston, daughter of Frederick W. and Emma (Finney) Case, and lived 34 years in Shrewsbury. She graduated from Winthrop High School in Winthrop, and graduated summa cum laude from Clark University when she was 64. She received one of the first bachelor's degrees in Women's Studies from the school.

Mrs. Lanzilli was a secretary many years at the former McClean Trucking Co., retiring in 1986.

She was a member of Unitarian-Universalist Church of Grafton. She was active in political and civil rights circles. She was a member of the National Organization of Women, the NAACP and the Rainbow Coalition. She volunteered for the Hospice Residence and Daybreak House, both in Worcester. She was an accomplished calligrapher and cake decorator, and enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening. She traveled the world, and summered many years in Dennis.

The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. A calling hour is 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.

I. Carol Manzi, 82

PAXTON -- I. Carol (Madsen) Manzi, 82, of 311 Pleasant St., a former bookkeeeper, died Friday, Nov. 24, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 50 years, Arthur J. "Bumper" Manzi; two sons, Stephen A. Manzi of Worcester and Peter J. Manzi of Charlton; a daughter, Carolyn M. Manzi of Monterey, Calif.; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A brother, LeRoy C. Madsen, and a sister, Doris E. Hewitt, predeceased her. She was born in Manchester, N.H., daughter of Carl and Ruth (Connor) Madsen.

Mrs. Manzi worked many years as a bookkeeper for the former Bayer-Mingolla Construction Co. before retiring. She enjoyed oil painting, cooking and gardening.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home & Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., Worcester. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery. Flavio C. Mauriello, 73
Friday, November 30, 2001

MALDEN -- Flavio C. Mauriello, 73, of Revere, formerly of Malden, a longtime bricklayer and a veteran of World War II, died Thursday, Nov. 29, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Grace (Cardile) Mauriello; two sons, including Larry Mauriello of Millbury; a daughter; three brothers; and six grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Mauriello was a foreman bricklayer 28 years, and was a member of Local 3 Bricklayer & Allied Craft Workers. He was also a building inspector 15 years for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority before retiring.

The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 3, from A.J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 790 Salem St. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the funeral home.

McClintock service

PAXTON -- The funeral for Julia G. (Greaney) McClintock, of 116 Holden Road, who died Tuesday, Nov. 27, will be held Friday, Nov. 30, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Columba's Church, 18 Richards Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

She leaves two sons; two sisters; four grandchildren; nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Four brothers predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, and moved to Paxton in 1980.

Mrs. McClintock was a bacteriologist and serologist with the Worcester Department of Public Health for 33 years, retiring as director of the department's laboratory in 1980. She was a member of St. Columba's Church, and was an Irish history and culture enthusiast. She was awarded the key to the city upon her retirement.

Gilbert F. Mills Jr., 83

LUNENBURG -- Gilbert F. Mills Jr., 83, of 284 Highland St., a retired tool and die maker, died Friday, Nov. 23, at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Helen R. (Sylvain) Mills,; two sons, Richard Mills of Lunenburg and Charles Mills of Fitchburg; five daughters, Elizabeth Beaulac of Northboro, Linda Banville of Westminster, Carolyn Fredette and Marcia Marjomaa, both of Fitchburg and Virginia Mills of Michigan; a sister, Rachel Steele of New Hampshire; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Merton Mills, predeceased him. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Gilbert F. and Elsa (Hertel) Mills, and moved to Lunenburg 48 years ago. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1936.

Mr. Mills worked 43 years as a tool and die maker at the former Foster Grant Co. in Leominster, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Boniface Church, the Fitchburg Elks, the Lunenburg Friendly Seniors and the Foster Grant 25 Year Club. He enjoyed building clocks, woodworking and gardening.

A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in St. Boniface Church, 817 Mass. Ave. Burial will be at a later date. A calling hour will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Presentation, 99 Church St., Leominster, MA 01453. Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St., Fitchburg, is directing arrangements.

Arthur R. Nordgren, 91; funeral home director
Monday, November 26, 2001

WORCESTER -- Arthur R. "Rudy" Nordgren, 91, of 70 Briarwood Circle, a longtime funeral director, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, in Knollwood Nursing Home.

His wife of 25 years, Eunice E. (Helsing) Nordgren, died in 1996. His first wife, to whom he was married 37 years, Rachelle (Mickelson) Nordgren, died in 1969. He leaves a daughter, Janet L. Merryweather of Salisbury Cove, Maine; a sister, Viola E. Nordgren-Mangsen of Worcester; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Carl Nordgren, and a sister, Elsie O. LaFleur, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Carl E.R. and Jennie E. (Broberg) Nordgren, and lived most of his life in Shrewsbury and wintered in Florida before moving to Worcester in 1996. He graduated from Commerce High School and the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science, Embalming and Funeral Directing.

Mr. Nordgren was past president and owner of Nordgren Memorial Chapel Funeral Service, where he was a funeral director for more than 50 years, retiring in 1975. He was a past member of the Belmont Street Baptist Church and a member of Salem Covenant Church for the past 32 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Morning Star Lodge. He was active in the Aleppo Temple, Scottish Rites Bodied and the Alethia Grotto. Mr. Nordgren was past treasurer of the Odin Club and a member of the Kiwanis Club and the International Order of the Golden Rule in Funeral Services. He enjoyed traveling, boating, sailing and the sea.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Salem Covenant Church, 215 East Mountain St. A private burial will be held in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in Nordgren, Carrigan and Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Covenant Church, 215 East Mountain St., Worcester, MA 01606, or to the charity of one's choice.

Lydia M. Rankin, 92

WORCESTER -- Lydia M. (Haddad) Rankin, 92, of 2 Dartmouth St., formerly of Springfield, Penn., died Monday, Nov. 26, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

Her husband of 17 years, Rev. Walton W. Rankin, died in 1972. She leaves two brothers, Theodore A. Haddad of Leominster and Herbert H. Haddad of Worcester; two sisters, Margaret H. George of Worcester and Ruth White Cosmos of Cherry Hill, N.J.; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. Two brothers, Richard J. and Raymond A. Haddad, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Abraham I. and Nabeha (Merhige) Haddad, and lived in Springfield, Penn., before moving back to Worcester 1991.

Mrs. Rankin was chief librarian of Boeing-Vertol in Pennsylvania for many years, retiring in 1974. After her retirement the library was renamed the Lydia Rankin Technical Library in her honor. She continued at Boeing-Vertol, heading pre-retirement planning seminars.

She was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and its woman's club. She was a 50 years member of Stella Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star, and was past president of Soroptomist Professional Woman's Club. She was a member of the AARP, Gold Card Chapter of the Boeing Management Association, Worcester Woman's Club and the "WISE" Program at Assumption College.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. A Trisagion Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Memorial Fund, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA 01604.
