William F. Edmonds Jr.

BOYLSTON -- William F. Edmonds Jr., 70, of Boylston, a former general contractor, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Kathleen A. (Vickery) Edmonds; four sons, Mark W. and Liam P. Edmonds, both of Worcester, Eric M. Edmonds of Los Alamos, N.M., and Jason D. Edmonds of Boylston; two daughters, Adriane E. Larrabe of Gloucester and Nicole M. Edmonds of Boylston; six grandchildren. He was born in Springfield, and attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. He received graduate degrees from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the early 1950s. He also served as a professor of economic studies under a U.S. government-University of Maryland joint venture.
He was a general contractor, and held leadership positions at several regional contracting and engineering concerns, including Clinton-based EMI Corp. and American Technological Corp. in Dalton. Prior to that, along with a partner, he formed Atlantic Constructors, later to become New England Bridge Construction Co./Ed Mac. He was for a while an administrator with the former Continental Construction Corp. in Lynnfield.
After retiring, he taught at Clinton/Boylston area schools.
He was a member, eucharistic minister, and religious instructor at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Clinton. He enjoyed antique vehicle restoration.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 46 Boylston St., Clinton. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton.

FITCHBURG -- The funeral service for Jean (Skurnick) Flaum, 91, formerly of 24 Berkshire St., who died Friday, Nov. 23, in the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in Agudas Achim Synagogue, 40 Boutelle St.

WEBSTER -- Marilyn L. Follett, 60, of 294 Killdeer Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home.
He leaves a brother, Douglas L. Follett of North Smithfield, R.I.; and a sister, Muriel Stockdale, with whom she lived. A sister, Priscilla Kowalczyk, predeceased her. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., daughter of Leslie B. and Laura E. (Smith) Follett, and lived in North Smithfield, R.I., Florida and California before moving to Webster. She attended Rhode Island School for the Death, Providence.
Miss Follett was a homemaker. She was active in social clubs for the deaf in Rhode Island and California.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, R.I. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity.
Ellen Francke, 74

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Ellen Francke, 74, of St. Augustine, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a retired accountant, died Thursday, Nov. 22, at St. John's Health Care Center, after a long illness.
She leaves a brother, Peter R. Francke of Eastham, Mass.; five nieces and five nephews. A sister, Marilyn Cote of St. Augustine, predeceased her. She was the daughter of Peter E. and Helen (Converse) Francke.
Miss Francke was a certified public accountant and worked in Boston, New York and Hawaii. She enjoyed dancing.
Burial will be private. Craig Funeral Home, PO Box 99, is directing arrangements.
Ralph P. Giofreda, 81

SHREWSBURY -- Ralph P. Giofreda, 81, of 49/4 Plainville Ave., a retired firefighter and a veteran of World War II, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Mary T. (Hawes) Giofreda; two sons, Gary P. and Brian L. Giofreda, both of Shrewsbury; two daughters, Susan M. Monaghan of Shrewsbury and Marianne T. O'Brien of Worcester; two brothers, Michael Giofreda of Shrewsbury and Louis Giofreda in Florida; and seven grandchildren. A sister, Josephine Sidloski, predeceased him. He was born in Shrewsbury, son of Lorenzo and Assunta (Dappicia) Giofreda. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1940, where he excelled in sports. He was inducted into the high school's Hall of Fame in 1996. Mr. Giofreda was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Northern France, Europe and Africa.
He was a firefighter for the Shrewsbury Fire Department for 25 years, assigned to Engine Co. 2, Lake Station. He retired in 1974.
Mr. Giofreda was a member of St. Anne's Church, the Shrewsbury Fire and Police Relief Association, Shrewsbury Friends, and Victor Quarranta Post American Legion. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
The funeral will held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike. Edwin A. Hannus, 65

SHREWSBURY -- Edwin A. Hannus, 65, of 78 Grafton St., a retired die finisher, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 33 years, Theresa (Fontaine) Hannus; a daughter, Lisa Marie Moulton-Cox of Worcester; a sister, Ellen Costello of Philadelphia; nieces and nephews. A son, Michael P. Cox, died in 1974. A brother, Leonard R. Hannus, died in 1984. He was born in Worcester, son of Edwin A. and Clair (McMenemy) Hannus, and lived in Shrewsbury for 32 years. He served in the Army.
Mr. Hannus was a die finisher at Wyman-Gordon Co., North Grafton, for 30 years, retiring in 1995 because of illness. He was an associate honorary member of Lithuanian War Veterans. He enjoyed bowling and big band music.
The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 3, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Norma L. Hayes, 78

NORTH BROOKFIELD -- Norma L. Hayes, 78, of 10 Shore Road, a retired real estate broker, died Monday, Nov. 26, at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.
Her husband, Franklin D. Hayes, died in June. She leaves a daughter, Lee Whitcomb of Conway; a son, Thomas R. Hayes of Westfield; a sister, Natalie Ballard of Bradenton, Fla.; and three granddaughters. She was born in Milford, daughter of Harold S. and Ethel (Metcalf) Hopkins. She graduated from Upton High School.
Mrs. Hayes was a real estate broker for Hayes Realty for 17 years. She was an organist and choir director for almost 50 years at Christ Memorial Church.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Christ Memorial Church, Main Street. There are no calling hours. George A. Hoyt, 88

SOUTHBRIDGE -- George A. Hoyt, 88, of 13 Dresser St., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Harrington Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Violette G. (Faucher) Hoyt; a son, Peter G. Hoyt of Leeds, N.Y.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A son, John A. Hoyt, died last year. He was born in Worcester, son of Percy A. and Louise (Rochford) Hoyt.
Mr. Hoyt worked at American Optical Corp., and later at Elbro Tool and Die Co. in Auburn before retiring.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. HOLDEN -- Louise C. (Stevens) Irish, 85, of 37 Crestview Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 22, in UMass Memorial Hospital -- Memorial Campus, after an illness.
Her husband, Alanson L. Irish, died in 1998. She leaves two sons, Wayne A. Irish of Rutland and Gerald S. Irish of Northboro; two brothers, Roy Stevens Jr., of Eastham and Herbert Stevens of Haddenfield, N.J.; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Frank and Robert Stevens, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Roy H. and Anna M. (Olson) Stevens, and lived in Holden for 34 years. She graduated from Commerce High School and Hahnemann Hospital School for Nurses, both in Worcester.
Mrs. Irish was a nurse at Hahnemann Hospital, before retiring. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Hahnemann Hospital Alumni Association. She enjoyed crafting, traveling and attending flea markets.

NORTHBRIDGE -- Michael P. Joyce Sr., 65, of 47 Sheryl Drive, Whitinsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Marcia Ann (Ciccone) Joyce; a son, Michael P. Joyce Jr. of Whitinsville; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Joyce and Margaret Conroy, both of Shrewsbury; three brothers, Paul Joyce of Worcester, Richard Joyce of Sterling, and William Joyce of Clinton; a sister, Elenor Morrison of Lugoff, S.C.; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Donald, Alfred, and Wayne "Buddy" Joyce, and two sisters, Marion Irvine and Verna Joyce, predeceased him. He was born in Clinton, son of Michael and Verna (LaBombard) Joyce, and lived 30 years in Whitinsville. He graduated from Lancaster High School, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Joyce was a fluid engineer at Morgan Construction Co. in Worcester for 30 years, retiring in 1998. After retiring, he drove the Elder Bus for Beaumont Nursing Home, and did some carpentry work in the area.
He was a member of Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus in Whitinsville, and was an avid canoeist, runner, softball player, and vegetable gardener.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, taught CCD and was a member of the church Renew Committee and the Parish Council
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. SHREWSBURY -- Charles W. Kaufman, 78, of 15 Elma Circle, a retired certified financial planner, died Sunday, Nov. 25, at home.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Lyn (Clark) Kaufman; two sons, Charles W. Kaufman Jr. of Northboro and Brad L. Kaufman of Westwood; a daughter Nancy Kaufman-Conrad of Tewksbury; a brother, Damon Kaufman of Farmington Hills, Mich.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1948. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Kaufman worked 25 years as a financial adviser for American Express Financial Services in Shrewsbury. Previously, he worked in the government sales division of David Clark Co., Worcester. He was a member of the Greendale People's Church and served on its Board of Trustees. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Spectrum House. He enjoyed fishing, collecting stamps and bridge.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester. Burial will be private. ENFIELD, N.H. -- Jonathan A. Klein, 61, of Enfield, formerly of Fitchburg, Mass., died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
He leaves his wife, Karen Klein; two sons, Adam Klein of Atlanta and Eli Klein of Virginia; a daughter, Sarah Glidden of Virginia; two sisters, Susan Botzow of Cooperstown, N.Y. and Melissa Klein of Leominster, Mass.; two brothers, Stefan Klein of Connecticut and Peter Bloomfield of Enfield; his stepmother, Jean Klein of Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Burlington, Vt., son of Morton and Elizabeth (McKittrick) Klein, and grew up in Fitchburg. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire and later earned a master's degree from the University of New York at Potsdam. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Klein worked as a teacher in Massena, N.Y. and Lebanon. He also worked as a carpenter and at the Hanover Inn at Dartmouth College. He was a member of the Enfield-Mascoma Lions Club, and enjoyed photography and working on his home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Rollins Chapel at Dartmouth College, Hanover. There are no calling hours.
