Beatrice J. Knight, 79
Thursday, November 29, 2001

MIAMI -- Beatrice J. (Chesbrough) Knight, 79, of 6634 SW 136th Court, formerly of Leominster, Mass., died Friday, Nov. 23, in South Shore Miami Beach Hospital after a long illness.

Her husband, Joseph H. Knight, predeceased her. She leaves a son, Joseph Knight of Miami; her twin sister, Bernice J. Setzco of Leominster; two brothers, Herbert H. Chesbrough of Leominster and Calvin D. Chesbrough of Whittier, Calif.; a grandson; several nieces and nephews. A sister and two brothers predeceased her. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Mary (Sophie) and Frederick L. Chesbrough, and graduated from Leominster High School in 1941.

Mrs. Knight worked at Cluett & Peabody shirt shop in Leominster and Ray-O-Vac Co. in Clinton. She was also a custodian in Nocatee, Fla., and taught adult education.

She was a member of the Cultural Center in Port Charlotte, Fla. She enjoyed crafts and collected teapots. She enjoyed playing cards.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, in Faith United Church in Miami. After cremation, burial will be in Trescut/ ubec, Maine, at the convenience of the family.

Mary E. Lewis, 86
Wednesday, November 28, 2001

WORCESTER -- Mary E. (Bedrosian) Lewis, 86, of 126 May St., a former cosmetics salesperson, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, in UMass Memorial Medical center -- Memorial Campus.

She leaves her husband of 31 years, Winfield E. Lewis; a foster-daughter, Faye Clouthier of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael and Rose Bedrosian, and lived most of her life here. She graduated from the Perkins School for the Blind.

Mrs. Lewis sold cosmetics for the Avon Co. for 40 years. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was the first girl in Worcester to have a seeing-eye dog.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Concordia Lutheran Church, 86 Murray Ave. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 86 Murray.

Laurence H. Lougee, 92

SHREWSBURY -- Laurence H. Lougee, 92, of 68 Holman St., a World War II veteran and retired attorney, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

His wife, Erma M. (MacAllister) Lougee, died in 1999. He leaves a son, David L. Lougee of Hardwick; a daughter, Barbara L. Glass of Sterling, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was born in Somerville, son of Louis L. and Susan (Hogdon) Lougee, and lived many years in Shrewsbury. He graduated from Phillips-Exeter Academy and Harvard University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lougee began practicing law in 1935 and was a partner in the firm of Mirick, O'Connell, Demallie and Lougee in Worcester. He was also co-director of Camp Becket. He was a member of the American Bar Association, a member and past president of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and a charter member and inaugural president of the Shrewsbury Lions Club. He served as the Town Moderator for 13 years and was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Ray Stone American Legion Post and a 32nd degree Mason. He was also active with several area non-profit organizations, including the American Red Cross and the United Way.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road. A private burial will occur in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Arlington. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Friend, Inc., 21 Cedar St., Worcester, MA 01609, or to Camp Becket, 748 Hamilton Road, Becket MA 01223. Howard C. Allen Funeral Home, 653 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Sabina Macomber, 81
Monday, November 26, 2001

GARDNER -- Sabina E. (Matuszewski) Macomber, 81, of 116 Church St., died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Baldwinville Nursing Home.

Her husband, C. Chris Macomber, died in 1987. She leaves four cousins, Carol A. Helman of East Templeton, Laurie A. Leger and Christine C. Helman, both of Gardner, and Michael Matuszewski of Templeton. She was born and raised in Gardner, daughter of Walclaw and Mary (Rossa) Matuszewski, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1938.

Mrs. Macomber worked nine years at the former Leslie's in Gardner. She was also employed by American Airlines in the reservation department for 22 years, working in Boston, California, Arizona and Virginia.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Holy Rosary Sodality. She volunteered in the gift shop at Heywood Hospital and at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.

She was past president of the Holy Family League Gardner Guild. She was past president and charter member of the Polish American Social League.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St. Burial will be private. A calling hour is 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church Renovation Fund, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA 01440 or to the American Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield St., Suite 5, Boston, MA 02108.

Sabina E. Macomber

GARDNER -- Sabina E. "Sabby" (Matuszewski) Macomber, 81, of 116 Church St., died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Baldwinville Nursing Home.

Her husband, C. Chris Macomber, predeceased her. She leaves four cousins, Carol Helman of Templeton, Laurie Leger and Christine Helman, both of Gardner, and Michael Matuszewski of Templeton. She was born in Gardener, daughter of Walclaw and Mary (Rossa) Matuszewski, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1938.

Mrs. Macomber worked nine years at the former Leslie's Store. Previously, she worked as a reservation representative at American Airlines. FITCHBURG -- Ellen Maria (Heikkila) McHugh, 70, of 98 Prichard St., died Monday, Nov. 26, in Wachusett Extended Care, Holden, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 40 years, Edward T. McHugh; two brothers, Paul W. Heikkila of Vassalboro, Maine, and John R. Heikkila of Guilford, Vt.; a sister, Elsie M. Fredrickson of Ashby; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. She was born in Ashby, daughter of Wilho and Lyydia (Salminen) Heikkila. She was a 1949 graduate of the former Ashby High School and later received an associate's degree from Worcester State College.

Mrs. McHugh was a secretary in her husband's legal office for several years. She previously had been a data transcriber for the Internal Revenue Service and a clerk for the Veterans Administration and the Social Security Administration. She was a member of the Ashby Congregational Church and its Woman's Union, the Woman's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Ashby Post, and the Fitchburg Woman's Business Association.

A graveside service will be held in St. Bernard's cemetery at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woman's Union of the Ashby Congregational Church, PO Box 126, Ashby, MA 01431; or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., is directing funeral arrangements.

Evelyn McKenney, 78
Monday, November 26, 2001

HOPKINTON -- Evelyn Mae (Friese) McKenney, 78, formerly of 58 Davis Road, Hopkinton, a former nurse, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston after an illness.

Her husband, Arnold F. McKenney, predeceased her. She leaves a son, Arnold F. McKenney of Westminster; a daughter, Sandra L. McKeon of Princeton; and four grandchildren. Two brothers, George Friese and Thomas Hilditch, predeceased her. She was born in Hopkinton, daughter of George F. and Blanche (Rocheleau) Friese. She graduated from Hopkinton High School.

Mrs. McKenney worked as a nurse at Westboro State Hospital. She was a former member of the Woodville Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346. Rand-Harper-Pickering Westboro Funeral Home.

Marion McQueston, 85
Tuesday, November 27, 2001

STONEHAM -- Marion C. (Stenstrom) McQueston, 85, of Stoneham, formerly of Gardner, died Monday, Nov. 26, at home after a lengthy illness.

Her husband, Roger F. McQueston, died in 1972. She leaves two daughters, Judith A. McQueston and Bonnie L. McManus, both of Stoheham; and three grandchildren. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Carl and Hannie (Locke) Stenstrom. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1934.

Mrs. McQueston was homemaker.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner. There are no calling hours. A.E. Finnegan and Son Funeral Home, 322 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Joseph S. Nash, 84
Monday, November 26, 2001

PUTNAM -- Joseph S. Nash, 84, of Park Street, a World War II veteran, died Sunday, Nov. 25, in Day Kimball Hospital.

He leaves his wife, Doris (Lacas) Nash; a son, Joseph Nash of Putnam Heights; and a granddaughter. Ten siblings predeceased him. He was born in Killingly, son of James and Mary (Bernier) Nash. He was educated in the Killingly school system and was an Army veteran of World War II. He spent several winters in Florida.

Mr. Nash worked at many area companies, including Electric Boat, Kaiser Shipyard and the Rogers Corp. in Woodstock, from which he retired in 1979. He was a member of American Legion Post 13. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his dogs.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., with a Mass at 2 p.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

William O'Connor Jr.
Friday, November 30, 2001

CLINTON -- William F. O'Connor Jr., 88, of 459 High St., a retired letter carrier and a veteran of World War II, died Thursday, Nov. 29, at his home, after an illness.

His wife of 44 years, Josephine M. (Bevilacqua) O'Connor, died in 1996. He leaves a daughter, Joyce A. Downing of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Joseph H. Downing Jr. of Clinton, Mary Ellen Earl of Hudson and Kathleen M. LeBlanc of Leominster; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. His first wife, May (Loranger) O'Connor, died in 1945. He was born in Clinton, son of William F. and Theresa (Joyce) O'Connor, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1931. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. O'Connor was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Clinton for 31 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, the Massachusetts Letter Carriers Association and Post 523 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a life member of Clinton Council Knights of Columbus, and volunteered singing for area nursing home residents.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at noon in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608; or to St. John's Restoration Fund, 149 Chestnut St., Clinton, MA 01510.

Omer A. Martin, 91
Sunday, November 25, 2001

SPENCER -- Omer A. Martin, 91, of Clark Manor Nursing Home, a retired machine operator, died Saturday, Nov. 24, at the nursing home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Evelyn J. (Lambert) Martin; three sons, Maurice Martin of Kilmarnock, Va., Gerard and Louis Martin, both of Spencer; a sister, Blanch Martin of Franklin, N.H.; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. A brother, Norman Martin, died in 1983. He was born in Franklin, son of Cleophas and Sylvanie (Daignault) Martin and lived in Rochdale, before moving to Spencer in 1974.

Mr. Martin was a machine operator for the former MKM Hosiery Mills in Rochdale and a sales person at Astra Pharmaceutical, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Church, a member of the Spencer Senior Center and cooked meals for the center. He was a former Elderbus driver and a former member of the Leicester Grange.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, November 27, from the J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St. Following cremation, burial of ashes will be in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 26, at the funeral home.

Thomas O'Shaugnessy

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Thomas F. O'Shaugnessy, 76, of Village of Holiday Lakes, formerly of Brockton, Mass., and a World War II veteran, died Sunday, Nov. 25, in Englewood Community Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 32 years, Dorothy (Howe) O'Shaugnessy; two stepchildren, including Alice Kane of Leicester, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, East Falmouth, Mass. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Mass. Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 2 Buchan's Landing, Englewood, FL.

Lorraine M. Rollins, 64

DUDLEY -- Lorraine M. (Bricault) Rollins, 64, of 9 Nelco Avenue, formerly of Millbury, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, Webster, after an illness.

She leaves a son, Frederick Rollins Jr. of Worcester; a daughter, Alice Shepley of Dudley; her mother, Alice A. (Delisle) Bricault of Millbury; five brothers, Paul Bricault of Grafton, Ovila J. Bricault Jr. of North Brookfield, George J. Bricault of Auburn, Richard J. Bricault Sr. of Charlton and Raymond J. Bricault Sr. of Millbury; a sister, Theresa M. Bricault of New York; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Donald Rollins, and a brother, Donald R. Bricault, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Ovila J. Bricault Sr., and lived 26 years in Dudley.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in St. Brigid's Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Millbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, is directing arrangements.
