Sophie Shahnarian, 90
Wednesday, November 28, 2001

WORCESTER -- Sophie (Simonian) Shahnarian, 90, formerly of 69 Downing St., died Monday, Nov. 26, in The Jewish Home.

Her husband of 39 years, Hamazasb "Harry" Shahnarian, died in 1966. She leaves a son, Albert Shahnarian of Oxford; two sisters, Susan Pinto and Astrid Shahnarian, both of France; a grandson and granddaughter. A son, Edward Shahnarian of Worcester, died in 1996. A daughter, Jasmine "Jesse" Shahnarian of Worcester, died in 1993. She was born in Tiflis, Jordan, daughter of Mardik and Siranouche (Tatossian) Simonian, and has lived in Worcester since 1928. She graduated from public schools in Tiflis and continued her education in voice training.

Mrs. Shahnarian was a member of Armenian Church of Our Saviour, The AVAKS, Armenian Woman's Welfare Association. She was active in Armenian classical and folk music and dance performances.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Armenian Church of Our Savior, 87 Salisbury St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St, Worcester, MA 01602.

Shahnarian service

WORCESTER -- The funeral service for Sophie (Simonian) Shahnarian, 90, formerly of 69 Downing St., who died Monday, Nov. 26, in The Jewish Home, was held Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Armenian Church of Our Savior, 87 Salisbury St. Burial was in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours were in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St.

She was born in the Republic of Georgia. A son, Edward Shahnarian, died in 1996. Among her survivors she leaves a sister, Astrid Simonian of France.

Harold R. Smith Jr.

FITCHBURG -- Harold R. Smith Jr., of 28 Falulah St., died Saturday, Nov. 24, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after an illness.

Ermelinda P. Sousa, 61
Sunday, November 25, 2001

HUDSON -- Ermelinda P. (Moreira) Sousa, 61, of Leominster, formerly of Hudson, a hotel worker, died Friday, Nov. 23, in Marlboro Hospital after being stricken ill.

Her husband, Jose R. Sousa, died in 1964. She leaves two daughters, Mary Irene Levesque of Woonsocket, R.I. and Neila Sousa of Leominster; a son, Joe Sousa of Leominster; two brothers, Jose Mareira of Hudson and Joao Moreira of Canada; four sisters, Emilia Fontes of Hudson and Maria Reis, Beatrice Baros and Conceicao Freitas, all of Canada; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Five siblings, Antonio, Manuel, Luis, Bernardino and Agostinho Moreira, predeceased her. She was born in Santa Maria, Azores, daughter of Antonio and Bernardina (Sousa) Moreira, and lived 33 years in Hudson before moving to Leominster four months ago.

Mrs. Sousa worked many years at Arrow Automotive Co. in Hudson. She also worked at the Sheraton Hotel, Framingham.

A funeral will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, from Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the funeral home.

Spiegel service
Wednesday, November 28, 2001

WEBSTER -- The funeral service for David H. Spiegel, 90, formerly of 310 Thompson Road, who died Monday, Nov. 26, at the Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester, was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St., Worcester.

Burial will be in Hebrew Cemetery, Auburn. There will be no memorial observance. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01602.

His wife, Minna (Chesses) Spiegel, died in 1998. He leaves two brothers, Morris Spiegel of Worcester and William Spiegel of Framingham; nephews and nieces. A brother, Sydney Spiegel of Florida, predeceased him. He was born in Malden, son of Isaac and Sophie (Hamburg) Spiegel, and lived in Worcester for 21 years, before moving to Webster 53 years ago.

Mr. Spiegel and his wife owned the Kiddie Shop, a children's clothing store, retiring many years ago.

St. Onge service
Monday, November 26, 2001

WORCESTER -- The funeral for Robert A. St. Onge Sr., 70, of 53 Malden St., who died Friday, Nov. 23, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a long illness, will be held Monday, Nov. 26, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, 950 West Boylston St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro.

Peter T. Strong, 47
Friday, November 30, 2001

SPENCER -- Peter T. Strong, 47, of 32 Ledge Ave., died Thursday, Nov. 29, at his home, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 12 years, Linda R. (Kutzuba) Strong; his mother, Lorraine (Marcella) Strong of Everett; a sister, Patricia Albano of Everett; a stepson, John L. Sullivan of Gardner; two stepdaughters, Stacey McCurley of Northboro and Jodi Sullivan of Boxboro; a step-granddaughter; two nieces and a nephew. He was born in Boston, son of Lesley Strong, and lived in Everett and nine years in Worcester before moving here in 1998.

Mr. Strong was a crystal growth operator at Evergreen Solar Corp., Marlboro. He previously worked at Spectran Corp., Sturbridge.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, with a Mass at noon in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St. After cremation, burial will be in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 72 Cambridge St., Worcester, MA 01603.

Dawn J. Paquin Szocik

SUTTON -- Dawn J. (Sheehe) Paquin Szocik, 59, of 16 Jones Road, a bookkeeper and office manager, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in St. Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville section of Northbridge, after a struggle with cancer.

She leaves her husband of 19 years, Daniel J. Szocik; a son, Keith Paquin of Burton, Ohio; two daughters, Nicole Wootten of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Melissa Hamilton of Palmer, Alaska; three stepsons, Dan Szocik of Chepachet, R.I., Michael Szocik of Watertown, N.Y., and Fred Szocik of Woonsocket, R.I.; a stepdaughter, Dawn Szocik of Chepachet; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Rutland, Vt., daughter of Donald J. and Katherine (St. Onge) Sheehe. She lived in Sutton for 19 years.

Mrs. Szocik was a bookkeeper and office manager at the House of Wheels in Auburn for the past 12 years. Previously, she worked with her husband for D.J. Szocik Heating. She enjoyed boating.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug Road. Calling hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Stanley A. Warren Sr.
Friday, November 30, 2001

NORTHBORO -- Stanley A. Warren Sr., 80, of 85 East Main St., a retired printer and a veteran of World War II, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Westboro Health Care Center, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Christine L. (Deming) Warren; a son, Stanley A. Warren Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Ralph M. Warren Jr. of Auburn; a sister, Barbara Shonbeck of Auburn; a grandson; nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Ralph M. and Esther (Skantz) Warren, and lived in Northboro since 1955. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving in India.

Mr. Warren was a printer at Woodbury and Co. Inc., Worcester, retiring in 1986. He previously worked at U.S. Envelope Co., Worcester. He was a member of Joel Prouty Masonic Lodge, Auburn.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Howard Street Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 01420. Leland-Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Clifford C. Wetherbee

OXFORD -- Clifford C. Wetherbee, 84, of 91 Walnut St., a retired grinder and a World War II veteran, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Lanessa Extended Care Facility in Webster.

He leaves his wife of many years, Emily (Smith) Wetherbee; three sons, Robert Wetherbee in Missouri, Richard Wetherbee in Florida and Clifford Wetherbee in Texas; two daughters, Susan Mahlert of Dudley and Barbara St. Jean of Simsbury, Conn.; a brother, Willian Wetherbee of Leicester; a sister, Lorraine Hall of West Boylston; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Charles and Anna (Brachet) Wetherbee, and lived most of his life in Oxford. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific, including the Philippines.

Mr. Wetherbee was a retired grinder, and worked many years at Norton Co. in Worcester.

The graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, is directing arrangements.

ATHOL -- A funeral for Geraldine E. (Fisher) Whitehouse, 88, of 16 Leonard St., a former pianist, who died Saturday, Nov. 24, in Athol memorial Hospital after an illness will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St.

Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Care Corporation, 330 Montague City Road, Suite 1, Turners Falls, MA 01376, or to Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island St., Athol, MA 01331. Her husband of 61 years, W. Reginald Whitehouse, died in 1996. She leaves a son, Barry Whitehouse of Ellington, Conn.; a daughter, Roberta Casella of Athol; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard M. Willard, 41

NORTH BROOKFIELD -- Richard M. Willard, 41, of 6 Ryan Road, formerly of Charlestown, N.H., an operations manager, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.

He leaves his parents, Richard C. and Barbara J. (Newton) Willard; his fiancee, Robin R. Morris; a sister, Sandra J. Benninger; his paternal grandmother, Alice Willard, all of North Brookfield; and a niece. Born in Ware, he received an associate's degree from Becker Junior College, and attended WPI, Worcester, for a year.

Mr. Willard was an operations manager for the Riverside Reload Co. of Bellows Falls, Vt., for the past three years.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in North Brookfield Congregational Church, 160 Main St. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Brookfield Congregational Church, 160 Main St., North Brookfield, MA 01535; or to Toys for Tots, c/o North Brookfield Police Department, 4 Summer Road, North Brookfield, MA 01535.

William A. Worden, 49

GRAFTON -- William A. Worden, 49, of 16 East St., a business owner and operator, died Thursday, Nov. 22, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 24 years, Denise M. (Morin) Worden; a son, Zachary J. Worden of Grafton; his father, W. Allen Worden of Barnstead, N.H.; a sister, Marilyn Dansereau of Barnstead; and two nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Mary (Lacroix) Worden, and lived in Grafton all his life.

Mr. Worden owned and operated Interior Systems of North Grafton the past 15 years. He also was an advertising consultant for SweetBriar Florist of North Grafton and artist Allen Wynn of Boston and Louisiana. He enjoyed traveling and was a rail fan, enjoying watching the operations of major railroads. He spent most summers at his home in Roxbury Pond, Maine.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton. A calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Mary F. Zytkiewicz, 87

CLINTON -- Mary F. (Shusta) Zytkiewicz, 87, of 3 Norman St., died Friday, Nov. 23, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, following an illness.

Her husband, Stanley A. Zytkiewicz, died in 1984. She leaves a son, Stanley R. Zytkiewicz of Holden; two brothers, Andrew Shusta of West Boylston and Michael Shusta of Clinton; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, James M. Zytkiewicz, died in 1996. She was born in Madison, Maine, daughter of Michael and Mary (Bonga) Shusta. She graduated from Clinton High School and Bay Path Business School.

Mrs. Zytkiewicz worked in the office of Ray-O-Vac Company, formerly of Clinton, for more than 25 years, before retiring. She previously worked at the former Blackstone Plush Co. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, from the Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to St. Mary Elementary School, 128 Franklin St., Clinton, MA 01501.
