GARDNER -- Loretta Y. (Fleurant) Spofford, 87, formerly of 71 Sunrise Lane, a former seamstress, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in Fairlawn Nursing Home, Leominster, after a long illness.

Her husband of 59 years, Guy H. Spofford, died Jan. 23, 2000. She leaves two daughters, Anne L. Rivard of Lunenburg and Joyce C. Allen of Kinnelon, N.J.; a sister, Cecile Stanley of Baldwinville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother and two sisters predeceased her. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Napoloeon and Louisa (Suzor) Fleurant, and lived her entire life here. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1932.

Mrs. Spofford worked many years for Arnold Fabrics prior to retiring. Previously, she worked many years as a seamstress for several area companies. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, the Catholic Women's Club and the Holy Family League of Charity.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, from Lamoureux-Fletcher, 105 Central St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Lovewell Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Constance M. Stohn, 83
Sunday, December 16, 2001

PRINCETON -- Constance M. (Gough) Stohn, 83, of Princeton, a former social worker, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.

Her husband, Robert M. Stohn, died in 1964. She leaves two daughters, Nanci M. Stohn of Hopkinton and Maryann Picariello of Princeton; and three grandchildren. A sister, Barabara L. Gough, predeceased her. She was born in Boston, daughter of Joseph F. and Florence (Morgan) Gough, and lived 42 years in Lexington before moving to Princeton. She graduated from Regis College. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross in England and France.

Mrs. Stohn worked 10 years as a social worker for the Lexington Council on Aging. Previously, she worked 10 years as a special needs teacher at Kennedy Hospital, Brighton. She was a member of Prince of Peace Church, the Regis College Alumni Association and the Lexington Council on Aging.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in Prince of Peace Church, 5 Worcester Road. Private burial will be in Holy Hood Cemetery, Brookline. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Angel Memorial Hospital, 350 South Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130, or to Tufts University Veterinary Hospital, 200 Westboro Road, Grafton, MA 01536. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Ruth C. Stone, 66
Sunday, December 16, 2001

LUNENBURG -- Ruth C. (Worden) Stone, 66, of 37 Pearl Brook Road, died Saturday, Dec. 15, after a four-year battle with cancer.

She leaves her husband of 45 years, Earle F. "Bruce" Stone of Lunenburg; two sons, Bruce F. Stone of Topeka, Kan., and Keith A. Stone of Lunenburg; two daughters, Barbara R. Parker and Karen L. Maillet, both of Fitchburg; a brother, Ronald Worden of Alfred, Maine; three sisters, Kathleen Kady of Chelmsford, Helen Garnett of Sanford, Maine, and Edwina Shephard of New Brunswick, Canada; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She graduated from Brighton High School.

Mrs. Stone worked at Sears. She was a member of Union Congregational Church of Christ, Maynard.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Union Congregational Church of Christ, 80 Main St., Maynard. Burial will be in North Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diversified Visiting Nurse Association, 316 Nichols road, Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Frances M. Stumpf, 89
Sunday, December 16, 2001

LEICESTER -- Frances M. Stumpf, 89, of 79 Baldwin St., a retired clock assembler, died Friday, Dec. 14, at Providence Extended Care Center, Worcester.

She leaves a brother, Robert A. Stumpf with whom she lived; a sister, Rita Marsolais of Claremont, Fla.; nieces and nephews. A brother, John Stumpf of North Brookfield died on Tuesday, December 11. She was born in Florence, N.J., daughter of Albert and Emma (Schadey) Stumpf and lived in Auburn before moving to Leicester in 1968.

Miss Stumpf was a clock assembler at General Electric Corp. in Worcester and then Ashland, for 31 years, before retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. Aloysius/St. Jude Parish and a former member of its Women's Guild. She was an avid bowler.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, from the Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius/St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 18, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius/St.Jude Parish, PO Box 296, Rochdale, MA 01542.

Donald B. Watson, 56
Saturday, December 15, 2001

WORCESTER -- Donald B. Watson, 56, of 37 Chevy Chase Road, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, died Thursday, Dec. 13, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 13 years, Martha A. (Hjelm) Watson; his father, the Rev. Frederick Donaldson of Reading, Pa.; two brothers, Roger Watson of Charlotte, N.C., and Timothy Watson of Gastonia, N.C.; a sister, Darylon Hoke of Gastonia; an aunt, Luvenia Watson of Gastonia, who raised him; nieces and nephews. He was born in Reading, Pa., son of Cora Lee Watson, and was educated in Gastonia schools. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a cannon operator. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in Vietnam.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the funeral home.

Kelvin G. Wheatley, 68

PEABODY -- Kelvin G. Wheatley, 68, of Peabody, formerly of Auburn, died Thursday, Dec. 13, in Salem Hospital.

He leaves his wife, Barbara J. (Johnston) Wheatley; a son, Lawrence Wheatley of Sharon; a daughter, Michelle Hagerty of Peabody; a brother, Donald Wheatley of England; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Singapore, son of Edmund D. Charles and Gladys G. (Struys) Wheatley. He served in the Army.

Mr. Wheatley worked 20 years for the SBA, located in the Tip O'Neil Building in Boston, retiring in 1997. While in Auburn, he managed a Worcester County National Bank branch. He was a member of First Congregational Church and the Kiwanis Club, both in Auburn. He enjoyed golfing.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. Robert M. Willis, 70

TAMPA, Fla. -- Robert M. Willis, 70, of 14654 Village Glen Circle, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a longtime business owner, died Thursday, Dec. 13, in Tampa Community Hospital after an illness.

He leaves wife of 48 years, Roslyn (Levenson) Willis; two sons, Jamie Willis of Gulfport and Glen Willis of Tampa; two sisters, Dorothy Levy and Selma Gurwitz, both of Worcester; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Maurice and Yetta (Brunell) Willis, and lived 50 years there before moving to Tampa 20 years ago. He graduated from Commerce High School.

Mr. Willis owned and operated World of Lighting and Matthew Lighting Co., both in Tampa, for 20 years. While living in Worcester, he owned and operated Willis Electric Co.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in Congregation Kol Ami, Tampa. Burial will be in Congregation Kol Ami Cemetery. A memorial observance will be Monday afternoon, Dec. 17, through Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Levy, 31 Monroe Ave., Worcester. Kenneth E. Wright, 49; accident victim

LEOMINSTER -- Kenneth E. Wright, 49, of 36C Meadow Pond Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in Deaconess Nashoba Hospital, Ayer, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident that evening in Devens.

He leaves his wife of 25 years, Carlotta (Wilson) Wright; two sons, Delmahr A. Wright and Marcus D. Wright, both of Leominster; two daughters, Leitha N. Wright and Letecia M. Winters, both of Leominster; his mother, Mary (Lane) Wright of Ayer; three brothers, Bennie H. Wright Jr. of Norfolk, Va., Michael D. Wright of Newport News, Va., and John D. Wright of Reno, Nev.; five sisters, Melva "Pat" Morin of Leominster, Linda M. Wright-Fuller of Laurel, Md., Marsha A. Murdaugh and Carol R. Wright, both of Nashua, N.H., and Queida F. Davis of Ayer; eight grandchildren. A daughter, Lavohnia Wright, was killed in an automobile accident in 1997. He was born in Anniston, Ala., son of the late Bennie H. Wright, and was raised in Ayer. He lived the past seven years in Leominster.

Mr. Wright served 17 years in the Army, retiring in 1994 as a staff sergeant. After retiring from the military, he worked as a supervisor in the canteen services program at the Massachusetts Correction Institute, Concord. He was a member of the New Patriots Christian Congregation, Devens, where he served as a deacon and as chair of the Board of Directors.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in New Hope Community Baptist Church, Sandy Pond Road, Ayer. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ayer. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 46 Washington St., Ayer. Patrick Gailbraith, 47

WORCESTER -- Patrick J. Galbraith, 47, of Worcester, died Friday, Dec. 28, in an automobile accident on Interstate 80 in Green Township, Clinton County, Pa.

He leaves five brothers, A. Michael Galbraith of Baden, Kevin L., Christopher A. and Keith R. Galbraith, all of West Deer Township, Pa., and Lawrence D. Galbraith of Valencia, Pa.; five sisters, Carol Grieco of Rosemount, Minn., Constance Bednar of Dayton, Ohio, Gwen Guest of Rosamond, Calif., Diane Aleccia of Bellevue, Neb., and Lauretta Galbraith of Bellvue, Pa.; nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was born in Homestead, Pa., son of Albert M. Galbraith Jr. and Nancy A. (Glunt) Galbraith. He graduated from Deer Lakes High School, West Deer Township, in 1972 and earned a civil engineering degree from University of Pittsburgh. He earned a professional engineering license in 1982.

Mr. Galbraith was a project-program manager for SteelTech Inc. in South Windsor, Conn., and worked for Pittsburgh-DesMoines Steel Co. and Atlas Steel. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church. He was a member of the Mensa Chapter of Connecticut/Western Massachusetts and the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association, Boston.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in St. Victor's Church, Bairdford, West Deer Township. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township, Pa. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in Adam Siemianowski Funeral Home, Starr Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. Rev. Dennis Jarry, 59

NORWICH, Conn. -- The Rev. Dennis G. Jarry, 59, of Norwich, formerly of Westboro, Mass., died Thursday, Dec. 27, in Backus Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 12 years, Barbara (Gallagher) Jarry; his mother, Dorothy E. Jarry of Lisbon; a brother, Gerard Jarry Jr. of Sterling, Conn.; nephews and nieces. He was born in Norwich, son of Gerard Jarry. He graduated from St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, in 1962 and from St. Mary's Seminary and University of Baltimore in 1968. He earned a master's degree in sacred liturgy from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind.

Rev. Jarry was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1968. He served at churches in Gales Ferry, Niantic and Clinton, Conn., and was chaplain to the students and staff of Xavier High School, Middletown. He was formally received as a priest in the Episcopal church in 1992 and was an interim pastor in New Jersey. He also administered a national grants program for the American Liver Foundation and was a director for the National Self-Help Clearinghouse and state program coordinator for the New Jersey Self-Help Clearinghouse. Rev. Jarry was rector of St. Stephen's Church in Westboro and then Christ Church in Andover, Mass.

The funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 2, in Christ Church, 25 Center Church, Andover. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, in the church. Frances J. Madden, 63; Marlboro salon owner

MARLBORO -- Frances J. (Gaucher) Madden, 63, of Marlboro, a business owner, died Sunday, Dec. 30, in New England Medical Center, Boston.

She leaves her husband of 42 years, William P. Madden; a daughter, Donna M. Higgins of Northboro; two sons, James R. Madden of Marlboro and Michael W. Madden of Woodstock, Conn.; a brother, Richard Gaucher of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Nancy Savoie of Boylston and Cecelia Garfield of Gardner; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Clairmont Gaucher, died in 1981. She was born in Hudson, daughter of Wallace and Mildred (Benway) Gaucher. She graduated from Marlboro High School and Leo's Beauty Institute, Worcester.

Mrs. Madden owned Fran's Colonial Hearth Salon, Marlboro. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, from Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in the funeral home. Eileen M. Mongeau, 40

WEBSTER -- Eileen M. Mongeau, 40, of 23 Tanner Road, a business owner and operator, died Friday, Dec. 28, in Concord.

She leaves her parents, Laurent M. and Margaret A. (Radzik) Mongeau of Webster; three sisters, Kathryn Mongeau of Sacramento, Calif., Marie Mongeau of Putnam and Anne Stuehr of Natick; three brothers, Justin Mongeau of Adelanto, Calif., Michael Mongeau of Sterling and Laurence Mongeau of the Byfield section of Newbury; nephews and nieces. She was born in Oakland, Calif., and was raised in Webster. She lived many years in the Boston area before returning here recently. She graduated from Marianhill High School, Southbridge, in 1979 and earned a bachelor of science degree from Stonehill College, North Easton, in 1983. She later earned an M.B.A. from Boston University.

Ms. Mongeau owned and operated Innovative Marketing Solutions, Burlington, for about five years. Previously, she worked in administration at Tufts Managed Care Institute, Boston. While in Webster, she was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The memorial Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St. Burial will be at the family's convenience in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St.; or to St. Anne School Student Aid Fund, 12 Day St., PO Box 818, both Webster, MA 01570. Lucy A. Baker, 94

LITTLETON, Colo. -- Lucy A. (Bullard) Baker, 94, of Littleton, formerly of Dresser Hill Road, Charlton, Mass., died Dec. 28 in Lifecare of Littleton.

Her husband, Leland H. Baker, died in 1975. She leaves a son, Leland H. Baker Jr. of Littleton; a daughter, Nancy L. Jackson of Charlton; a sister, Elizabeth Meredith of Springfield, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren. A son, Gordon C. Baker of Charlton, died in 1983. She was born in Worcester, Mass., daughter of Charles and Alice (Craig) Bullard, and moved to Charlton in 1942. She moved to Colorado in 1999.

Mrs. Baker worked with her husband at the former Leland H. Baker Insurance Co. in Charlton, and later worked at the Charlton Credit Union, retiring many years ago.

She was a member of Federated Church of Charlton and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The memorial service will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Federated Church of Charlton Renovation Fund, PO Box 70, Charlton, MA 01507. Robert J. Miller Charlton Funeral Home, 175 Old Worcester Road, Charlton, is directing arrangements.
