GEORGE R. CONNOR
REDFIELD, S.D. - George Roy Connor, 79, of Redfield, formerly of Frostburg, Md., died Friday, May 22, 1998, at the Community Memorial Hospital, Redfield.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred (Callison) Redfield; one son; two daughters; and four brothers, Joseph Connor, Frostburg, J. Donald Connor, Boynton Beach, Fla., Leon Connor, Hagerstown, and Eugene Connor, Cumberland; and one sister, Patricia Merideth, Talmadge, Ohio.
Services were held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Redfield.
PEARL DILLSWORTH
OAKLAND - Pearl Dillsworth, 73, of Sunnyside Road, Oakland, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 9, 1924, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred (Goff) Hixenbaugh. She also was preceded in death by one brother, John Hixenbaugh.
She attended the Underwood United Brethren in Christ Church, Oakland.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer H. Dillsworth; one daughter, Josephine I. Resh, Accident; three sons, Harold E. Dillsworth, Mount Storm, W.Va., Howard F. Dillsworth, Baltimore, and Michael S. Dillsworth, Red House; two sisters, Lucy Dillsworth, Tunnelton, W.Va., and Bertha Huffman, Aurora, W.Va.; three brothers, Harold Hixenbaugh, Rowlesburg; Darrell Hixenbaugh, Terra Alta, W.Va., and Franklin Hixenbaugh, Rowlesburg; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday.
Services will be held at the Underwood United Brethren in Christ Church on Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews and the Rev. David Kisamore officiating.
Interment will be in the Underwood cemetery.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
WILLIAM ADAMS JR.
CARLOS - William "Dee" Adams Jr., 66, of 20402 Morgan St., SW, Frostburg, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 12, 1932, in Carlos, he was the son of the late William and Mary Ann (Hitchins) Adams Sr.
Mr. Adams was a retired bricklayer from Bricklayers Local 6 of Cumberland. He was a member of the Carlos Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Anna Mae (Baker) Adams; one daughter, Marlene Pifer and husband Rick, Carlos; one son, Larry W. Adams, Frostburg; two sisters, Mabel Duncan, Frostburg, and Lorraine Richards and husband Wilbert, Carlos; two grandsons, Justin Adams and Christopher Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating, assisted by Harry Fatkin.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Whetstone, Kevin Hare, Robert Humbertson, Robert Hill, Michael Spataro Jr. and John Mull.
FLORENCE M. CONRAD
CUMBERLAND - Florence Miller Conrad, 91, formerly of Walnut Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided for more than three years.
Born Sept. 18, 1906, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late William T. Miller and Jesse M. (Waddell) Miller. Her husband, James M. Conrad, died on Dec. 14, 1984. She also was preceded in death by a grandson; a sister; and six brothers.
A long-time resident of Cumberland, Mrs. Conrad was a graduate of Frostburg State Normal School and was a substitute teacher in Allegany County Schools for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member of the choir, bell choir, Sunday School, women's association and the Highlanders. She was a member of the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are four daughters, Maxine O. Sutherland and husband Bill, East Liverpool, Ohio, Carol Cline, Orlando, Fla., Sally Rank and husband Dick, Cumberland, and Linda Wiseman and husband James, Uniontown, Pa.; two sisters, Ruth Chapman and Vera Ternent and husband William, all of Lonaconing; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Washington Street, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. O. Morton Harris officiating. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. on Friday.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the First Presbyterian Church.
BARBARA J. BRANT
CUMBERLAND - Barbara Jean (Lippold) Brant, 56, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Cumberland, died Jan. 23, 1998, in Tucson.
Mrs. Brant is survived by her husband, James E. Brant of Cumberland and daughter, Diane Michelle (Brant) Jimenez and brother, Anthony Lippold.
A memorial service will be held today in Eloy, Ariz. Interment will be at Davis Memorial cemetery, Cumberland, Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m.
ZIHLMAN L. "ZEE" DINNING
FROSTBURG - Zihlman L. "Zee" Dinning, 77, Frostburg, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1920, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late John H. and Rebecca (Todd) Dinning.
He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after 41 years. Mr. Dinning was an avid bowler. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Irmazell (Moore) Dinning; one son, John Dinning and wife, Carol, Mount Savage; two granddaughters, Bobbi Jean Lawler and husband, Harold, Frostburg, and Stacey Bittinger and husband, Steve, Mount Savage; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson; one stepbrother, Milton Todd, Barton; and one sister, Margaret "Peg" Stakem and husband, Dan, Rockville.
There will be no visitation. There will be a private family service at Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Monday with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart hospice.
FRANCIS W. "CHAPPY" CHAPMAN
CUMBERLAND - Francis Warren "Chappy" Chapman, 77, of Cumberland, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Midlothian, he was the son of the late John A. and Catherine E. (Trapp) Chapman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred E. (Shroyer) Chapman, on March 3, 1991; three brothers, John A. Chapman, William Chapman and George Chapman; and six sisters, Florence Morrissey, Margaret Fisher, Josephine Yarnall, Elizabeth Miller, Leola Miller and Bernadett Chorpenning.
Mr. Chapman was a manager for the curing department at Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., and a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School in 1939, and attended Notre Dame University. He was a graduate of St. Francis College in 1949.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus 586; life member of DAV Fort Washington Post 2; and the American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13.
Mr. Chapman was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are one son, John Edward Chapman and wife Melanie, Cumberland; two daughters, Patricia Ann Boyce and husband Victor, Tyler, Texas, and Donna Marie Kennedy and husband David, Cresaptown; four grandchildren, Lauren M. Boyce, Evan T. Boyce, Danielle R. Kennedy and Caeden Scott Chapman; one sister-in-law, Pauline Chapman, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus participating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Color Guard.
