LILLIAN A. CATINA
POTOMAC PARK - Lillian A. (Pelican) Catina, 100, formerly of Potomac Park, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
She was born near Frostburg on June 29, 1898.

Mrs. Catina was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Catina, on Jan. 19, 1992.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Baker, Cumberland; one sister, Julia Bennett, Baltimore; five grandchildren, Richard Baker, Cumberland, Diann See, Shrewsbury, Pa., Jim Baker, Glen Rock, Pa., Teena Ketterman, Clearville, Pa., and Bonnie Crider, Short Gap, W.Va.; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Sister Mary Angelina Catina, SSND, Cumberland; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Christian Wake Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8 p.m. by Deacon Francis Werner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

MARY C. DAY
CUMBERLAND - Mary Carmel Day, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Col. Harry E. Flook Sr. and Genevieve (Price) Flook. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Col. Harry E. Flook Jr.

Mrs. Day was a retired nursing supervisor at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in 1944, Allegany Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member and former president of the Sacred Heart Hospital Nursing School Alumni Association, and she was the recipient of the Cardinal's Medal of Honor.

Surviving are her husband, James E. Day; two daughters, Marianne DuBose, Long Beach, Miss., Maureen Pullias and husband, David, Towson; grandson, Kevin D. Pullias; one aunt, Teresa Moran and husband, Donald, Baltimore; sister-in-law, Gloria Flook, New Canaan, Conn.; and three nieces.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

WILLIAM "BILL" F. COSNER JR.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - William "Bill" Franklin Cosner Jr., 54, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in a local hospital.
Born in Kitzmiller, Md., on Jan. 22, 1944, he was the son of the late William Franklin Cosner Sr., and Margaret Ellen Wilson Cosner Brown.

Mr. Cosner was employed with Virginia Power, and was a faithful member and deacon of the Open Door Church.

He is survived by a loving wife of 35 years, Sandra Louise Cosner.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Teague Chapel with Pastor Charles E. Undercoffer officiating. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. in Hillcrest cemetery, Louisa, Va.

The family will also share in fellowship following the interment at the church, in Troy.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Open Door Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 970, Troy, VA 22974.

JOHN F. DONAHUE
FROSTBURG - John F. Donahue, 74, of 81 E. Mechanic St., Frostburg, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 27, 1924, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Hugh "Struntz" and Geraldine (Hughes) Donahue. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Rita Conroy.

Mr. Donahue was retired from the Allegany County Roads Department. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 470; the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1273; and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, all of Frostburg.

Surviving are a special friend of 51 years, Sadie Turner, Frostburg; one brother, Joe Donahue, Frostburg; two sisters, Angela Weisenborne, Frostburg; and Ann Cascio, Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

At. Mr. Donahue's request, his body was cremated.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 E. Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532.

MALCOLM G. ALLEN
NATIONAL - Malcolm G. "Mac" Allen, 79, of National, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born April 24, 1919, in Klondike, he was the son of the late James and Christina (Patterson) Allen. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Mr. Allen was an employee of the Celanese Corp. and retired from the Allegany County Board of Education. He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Betty Lee Allen; two daughters, Darlene LaRue and husband Leroy, Frostburg, and Brenda Andrews and husband Brady, LaVale; three grandchildren, Troy LaRue and wife Gloria, Tara Craze and husband "Buddy," and Brogan Andrews; three great-grandchildren, Channing, Chai and Chatia Craze; one brother, Harbert Allen, Shaft; and three sisters, Francine Yates, Carlos, LaVanna McKenzie, Frostburg, and Muriel Winters, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ellis Kretschmer officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Leroy LaRue, Brady Andrews, Troy LaRue, "Buddy" Craze, Peter Ziler and Richard Ziler.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

PAUL H. COUTER
CUMBERLAND - Paul Howard Couter, 69, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998.
Born March 17, 1929, in Cumberland, he was the son of Eleanor Marie (Spies) Couter, Cumberland, and the late Howard Edwin Couter. He also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Olivia Lechliter.

Mr. Couter was employed through the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 489. He was a member of Lodge 63, BPOE.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his loving wife, June Marie (Cline) Couter, and their children, Dena L. Hammersmith and husband Charles, Diane K. Pryor and husband Rick, Beverly A. Dean and husband William, Amy S. Lechliter and husband Steve, all of Cumberland, Gary D. Moss and Connie, Portsmouth, Va., Kathi A. Hemmis and husband Jerry, Bridgewater, Va., Robert N. Moss and wife Ann, LaVale, Jeani McDonald and husband Harold, and Vikki L. Moss, all of Cumberland; their grandchildren, Jason, Ivan and Heather Hammersmith, Nicholas and Gretchen Pryor, Joshua Heinrich, Elizabeth, Sarah and Rachel Dean, Katelyn Lechliter, Angela and Kevin Hemmis, Carrie Moss, Sierra McDonald and Stephen Smith; and his brother, Wayne A. Couter Sr. and wife Barbara, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Lodge 63, BPOE will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James L. McMahan officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Heinrich, Jason Hammersmith, Nicholas Pryor, Kevin Hemmis, Ivan Hammersmith and Wayne A. Couter Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Maryland Health System Hospice Program, 900 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502.
