WILSON ALTIZER
CUMBERLAND - G. Wilson Altizer, 83, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born Jan. 14, 1915, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Preston T. and Virginia E. (Wilson) Altizer. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Glover.
Mr. Altizer was a treasury agent for the Internal Revenue Service, Cumberland. He was a 1933 graduate of South Uniontown High School, and a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Cresaptown.
Surviving are his wife, E. Ruth (David) Altizer; two sons, Gerald W. Altizer and wife Maryann, Sunnyvale, Calif., and K. Dale Altizer, Cumberland; two daughters, Sharon Davidson and husband Thomas, Frostburg, and Kathryn S. Robinson and husband Gary, Glen Burnie; one brother, Preston E. Altizer and wife Irene, Hopwood, Pa.; one sister, Dorothy E. Altizer, Uniontown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Davidson, Diane R. Davidson, Daniel A. Davidson, Tammy G. Altizer, Amanda M. Altizer, Melanie Mayann Altizer, Aysha Joelle Altizer and Kenneth S. Robinson; and one great-granddaughter, Briana C. Altizer.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Wesleyan Church in Cresaptown on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kevin T. Lowery officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.

TRACY LYNN DOWLING
CUMBERLAND - Tracy Lynn Dowling, 33, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born Feb. 8, 1965, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Sandra Lloyd Allen, Cumberland, and the late James Arthur Lloyd.
Mrs. Dowling was a homemaker. She attended LaVale Chapel Assembly of God Church and was active in the P.I.K. Program at John Humbird School.
In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband, Howard A. Dowling; one son, Howard James Dowling; two daughters, Jessica Lynn Dowling, Rose Marie Dowling, all at home; two brothers, James Lloyd, Cumberland, and William Lloyd, Ridgeley.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Scheussler officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Kirk Seifert, Jim Norris, Joe DiGilarmo and Doug Norris.
FRANK L. CRANFORD
CUMBERLAND - Frank Leroy "Smoke" Cranford, 78, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born Jan. 2, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Frank I. and Maude Ellen (Ricker) Cranford. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Florence (Skipper) Cranford, on June 18, 1998; and one brother, James I. Cranford.
Mr. Cranford served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired electrician, having been employed through Local 307. He was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club; Barrelville Outdoor Club; FOE Aerie 2883, Cresaptown; Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW; Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; and Military Order of Purple Heart.
Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Adams, Chesapeake Beach; two sons, Donald L. Cranford, Santa Monica, Calif., and Gary L. Cranford, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Robert L. Brown, Baltimore, Leslie A. Brown, Chesapeake Beach, Stephanie L. Cranford and Stacy L. Cranford, both of Cumberland; and two great-grandchildren, Edward Beall, Fredericksburg, Va., and Morgan Taylor Cranford, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Yelovich officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, Harry Appel, Robert Appel, John Dougherty, William Wagner, Albert Brant and Wallace Keller Jr.
Military honors will be accorded by the local Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

HARRIET V. DEBERRY
DEER PARK - Harriet V. DeBerry, 61, of 2534 Boiling Springs Road, Deer Park, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at her home.
Born Aug. 28, 1936, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of Rachel (Schmidt) Beckman, of Deer Park, and the late Walter N. Beckman.
Mrs. DeBerry was a school bus contractor for the Garrett County Board of Education for 17 years. She was a member of the Deer Park Homemakers Club; the Deer Park Civic Group; the Garrett County Farm Bureau; and the Farmers Home Advisory Commission, and was a former 4H leader. She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Everett B. "Doc" DeBerry; two daughters, Debra A. King, Severn, and Rebecca S. DeBerry, Deer Park; two sons, John E. DeBerry, Stafford, Va., and Thomas C. DeBerry, Deer Park; five brothers, William Beckman, Coraopolis, Pa., George Beckman, Oakland, Claude Beckman, Mountain Lake Park, Ralph Beckman, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Walter Beckman Jr., Oxnard, Calif.; four sisters, Elva Cole, Cincinnati, Helen Gay, Deer Park, Margaret Mowbray, Alexandria, Va., and Ruth St. Clair, Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the St. John's Episcopal Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Chip Lee, the Rev. Father John Grant, and the Rev. Father Thomas Staup officiating.
Interment will be in the Deer Park cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Hospice of Garrett County.
ARLENA D. EDWARDS
GRANTSVILLE - Arlena Dorothy Edwards, 74, of 175 Meadowview Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 28, 1924, at Finzel, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Flossie (Burdock) Boyer. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, H. Kenneth Edwards. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two sons, Blake Garlitz and Stephen Bender, both of Grantsville; one daughter, Ramona Hummel, Frostburg; two sisters, Mildred Baker and Evelyn Bolden, both of Frostburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Prayer Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in the Grantsville cemetery.
Contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Hospice.
JACK "SPOOK" DOWNTON
FROSTBURG - 66, of Frostburg, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 7, 1932, in Zihlman, he was a son of the late Henry and Irene (Delbrook) Downton. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith (McKee) Downton.
Mr. Downton was employed by Foodland. He played with Skillet Lickers Band. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of Mount Savage VFW Old Rail Post 6025.
Surviving are a daughter, Roxanne McKenzie, Cresaptown; a son, Randy Hileman, Westernport; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The body will then be cremated. There will be no services.
The cremains will be interred at Frostburg Memorial Park.
