JOHN W. CHENEY SR.
CUMBERLAND - John Walter Cheney, Sr., 79, of 12806 Ioka Dr., N.E., Cumberland, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 29, 1918, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Harold K. Cheney and the late Nellie Pearl (Walters) Cheney. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Leo V. Cheney.

Mr. Cheney was a former co-founder and president of Valley Lumber Company. He retired in 1981. He was a graduate of Flintstone High School Class of 1937. He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and Methodist Men. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, 79th Infantry Division. Mr. Cheney was a member of Cumberland Elks Lodge #63 B.P.O.E., American Legion Post #13, Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Ohr Lodge #131 A.F. & A.M., Salem Chapter #18 R.A.M., Antioch Commandery #6 Knights Templar, past president of the Bedford Road Optimist Club, past Lt. Governor of Maryland State Optimist Club, past member of the Cumberland Country Club, past member of the Men's Golf Association, and he was an avid golfer and bowler.

Surviving are his wife, Rena A. (Friend) Cheney, Cumberland; a daughter, Patricia A. Cannon and husband, Edward, Hedgesville, W.Va.; a son, John W. "Jack" Cheney, Jr., and wife, Starr, Cumberland; a brother, Harold "Hal" Chaney and wife, Mary, Cumberland; a sister, Betty Endrich, Baltimore; a sister-in-law, Esther Cheney, Frederick; and four grandchildren, Jason T. Cheney and wife, Christine, Nashville, Tenn., Jantia R. Cheney, Frederick, Kara B. Cannon, and John J. Cannon, Hedgesville.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Centre Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna and the Rev. Adam Grim officiating. The body will be taken to church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Baker, Harold Brant, Kenneth Koser, Jack Mathews, Roger Miller and Jack Parsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Growden, Edward Mattingly, Charles May, Dr. Oliver Nadeau and Fred Stitcher.

Contributions may be sent to Centre Street United Methodist Church.

RUSSELL H. BRIDGES
CORRIGANVILLE - Russell Hillary Bridges, 87, of Corriganville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1910, in Chaneysville, Pa., he was the son of the late James and Tabitha Agnes (Barthalow) Bridges. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Virginia (Myers) Bridges; one son, Samuel Clyde Bridges; and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Bridges retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. in 1975, where he had been a fork-lift operator.

He was the last member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his daughter, Colleen Riggleman and husband James, with whom he resided; seven sons, "Bud" Cecil Bridges and wife Doris, Ottawa, Kan., Russell Roy Bridges and wife Shirley, and Don Bridges and wife Ann, all of Corriganville, Roger Lee Bridges and wife Carolyn, Glencoe, Pa., Ronald LeRoy Bridges and wife Linda, Buford, S.C., John Bridges, Corriganville, and James Bridges and wife Carol, Herndon, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Broome Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

THERESA L. DRABEK
ESSEX - Theresa Leona Harden Drabek, 77, of Essex, and Cumberland, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at the Centinella Hospital in Inglewood, Calif.
Born April 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John F. Harden and mother Iva Harden. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Parkins Harden; and a sister, Kathryn Koelker Dalbec.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John Leasure; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, John T. Harden, Essex; sisters, Miss Iva J. Graybeal, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Mrs. Geraldine Beck, Chaneysville, Pa., and Mrs. Margaret Maffley, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and a special niece, Linda Konecamp of Hawthorn, Calif., with whom she resided.

CHARLES J. CRAWFORD JR.
CUMBERLAND - Charles J. Crawford Jr., 58, of River Avenue, Cumberland, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 13, 1940, in Cumberland, he was the son of Anna M. Crawford, of Klondike, and the late Charles J. Crawford Sr. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Georgetta M. (Cline) Crawford, on Jan. 17, 1995.

Mr. Crawford was employed at the Interfaith Consortium in Cumberland.

Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Michael A. Crawford, LaVale, Charles A. Crawford, Berlin, Pa., and Justin C. James, at home; one daughter, Sharon M. Miller, Meyersdale, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Melinda S. Wariner, Cumberland; one stepson, Raymond O. James Jr., serving with the U.S. Navy; four sisters, Patricia A. Cutter, New Oxford, Pa., Carol L. Singleton, St. Petersburg, Fla., Catherine K. Crawford, Oldtown, Virginia L. Cutter, Klondike; two brothers, Junior E. Crawford, Cumberland, and David L. Crawford, Springfield, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence R. Frye officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Michael Crawford, Dave Crawford, Jason Crawford, Jason Iser, Eric Wariner, Dale Funkhouser and Jeff Boyd.

WANDA L. AMAN
CUMBERLAND - Wanda Lee Aman, 74, of 14150 Glen Oaks Drive, SW, Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 5, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Romeo Basilio and the late Delcie Mae (King) Basilio.

Mrs. Aman was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Samuel Richard Aman, Cumberland; a daughter, Sharon Lee Yatchyshyn and husband Dean, Cresaptown; a son, Ricky Lynn Aman and wife Connie, Hyndman, Pa.; two brothers, Walter E. "Gene" Basilio, Cumberland, and Ralph D. "Don" Basilio, LaVale; one grandson, Joshua Aman; and one granddaughter, Shannon Stair.

A graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Friday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

DESSA DELENA DREES
FINZEL - Dessa Delena Drees, 96, of 2568 Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospice.
Born July 6, 1901, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Lilly (Rosenberger) Minick. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert Minick and Arvel Minick; two sisters, Pearl Drees and Mabel Harden; two daughters; one son; and her husband, Henry Drees.

Mrs. Drees was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation after 34 years of service, where she was a machine operator in the textile department.

She was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.

Surviving are two daughters, Lilly C. Fike and husband, Ray, Finzel, and Evelena Drees, with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Gary Fike and wife, Phyllis, Topeka, Kan., Kenneth W. Fike and wife, Lynn, Frostburg, James R. Fike and wife, Debbie, Fayetteville, N.C., and Dale T. Fike and special friend, Ealnor Woods, Frostburg; seven great-grandchildren, Dawn Fike, Aaron Fike and fiancee, Kay Woutz, Greg Fike and fiancee, Melissa Miller, Brian Fike and wife, Marion, Carey Fike, Chris Fike and Amy Fike; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Michael's Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant.

Pallbearers will be Dean Bolden, Oliver Bolden, Bernard Drees, Billy Harden, Robert Harden and Blaine Hostetler.

The family request memorials be directed to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 East Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532.

WAYNE C. BRIDGES SR.
ZIHLMAN - Wayne C. Bridges Sr., 60, of Zihlman, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 19, 1938, in Slabtown, he was the son of Raymond Bridges, a patient at the Boonsboro Nursing Home, and the late Evelyn (Atkinson) Bridges. He also was preceded in death by his son, Wayne C. Bridges Jr., on Jan. 15, 1997.

Mr. Bridges was retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., and was employed at Allegany College of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers Division.

He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 348; Fraternal Order of Eagles 1273; American Legion Farrady Post 24; Evergreen Hunting Club and Barrelville Hunting Club; and Mount Savage Kemp Lodge 154 AF & AM.

Surviving are his wife, Judy (Winfield) Bridges; one daughter, Kelly Bridges, Cumberland; one grandson, Jeremy Wayne Bridges; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Bridges, Cresaptown; one brother, Gary Bridges and wife Jeannie, Boonsboro; and two sisters, Kay King and husband "Bud," Middletown, and Raetta Knight and husband Carl, Port Ritchie, Fla.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. LOOM 348 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vicki Via Dotson Leukemia Memorial Fund, or Allegany United Methodist Church.
