RALPH E. ARNOLD
OAKLAND - Ralph Emerson Arnold, age 61, of Oakland Sang Run Road, died on Wednesday at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
He was born in Oakland on Feb. 21, 1937, and was a son of the late Ray C. Arnold and Mabel (Fike) Arnold.
Mr. Arnold was a partner in Arnold Brothers Equipment Company.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Spiker) Arnold; one daughter, Susan Smith, Friendsville; six stepdaughters, Brenda Glotfelty and Nancy Paugh, both of Oakland, Norma Rodeheaver, Friendsville, Carolyn Friend, Accident, Melissa Wolfe and Judy Streets, both of Oakland; one stepson, Norman Reams Jr., Oakland; two brothers, Clayton Arnold, Mountain Lake Park, and Frank Arnold, Oakland; one sister, Laura Raleigh, Philadelphia, Pa.; one grandchild; and 18 stepgrandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews and the Rev. David Moon officiating.
Interment will be in the Gortner cemetery.
The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.
CHERYL L. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Cheryl L. Brown, 52, of 475 Baltimore Ave., went to be with the Lord on March 12, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born March 12, 1946, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ray Eaton and Virginia (Leasure) Eaton. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Frank.
Surviving are a husband, Jack Brown, Cumberland; two daughters, Jackie, Cumberland, Tammie, Pennsylvania; one son, David, Cumberland, one step-daughter, Kim Rice, Federalsburg; three step-grandchildren; one sister, Julia Eaton, Baltimore; one brother, Paul A. Eaton, Peru, Ind.; and several aunts and cousins.
Cheryl was a lifetime member of Living Stone Church of the Brethren, where she had many friends. She also was a member of Henry Hart V.F.W. Auxiliary 1411. Cheryl was a charter member of the Let's Beautify Cumberland Committee. She graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1964.
Cheryl donated her body to science. There will be a memorial service at Living Stone Church of the Brethren at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 21. All donations and memorials should be sent to the church.
CAROLINE D. CHICCEHITTO
MCCOOLE - Caroline D. Chiccehitto, 84, of 24707 Crooks Ave., McCoole, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 26, 1914, at Luke, she was a daughter of the late Andrea and Theresa (DiSabatino) DiUbaldo. She also was preceded in death by one son, Louis A. Chiccehitto; and three brothers, John, Tony and Andrew DiUbaldo.
Mrs. Chiccehitto was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser.
Surviving are her husband Louie Chiccehitto; one son, Ronald J. Chiccehitto, Keyser; three daughters, Nancy Echart, Bedford, Pa., Carol Durst, Houston, and Susan E. Hindman, Woodstock, Va.; two brothers, Arone DiUbaldo, Westernport, and Emil DiUbaldo, Keyser; two sisters, Virginia Smith, Naples, Fla., and Theresa Ross, Columbus, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, TOR, as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Thomas cemetery, Keyser.
A Rosary/Prayer service will be recited at the funeral home Monday at 7 p.m.
GLENN R. ARTICE
FRIENDSVILLE - Glenn Robert Artice, 77, of 36 Lee Lane, Friendsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born Dec. 6, 1921, at Friendsville, he was the son of the late James Espy and Minnie Belle (Reckner) Artice. Mr. Artice was a self-employed mason. A veteran of World War II he was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Rush Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Birdella (Gibbs) Artice; two sons, Glenn R. Artice, Pittsburgh, Pa., Larry L. Artice, Friendsville; one daughter, Barbara J. Oravitz, Natrona Heights, Pa.; two sisters, Maude Fike and Grace Hook, both of Friendsville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in the Blooming Rose cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by area Veterans Service Organizations.
CLARENCE R. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Clarence Ralph Brown, 83, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1915, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Angus L. and Bertha Mae (Folk) Brown. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Brown was a partner with his father in A.L. Brown Sign Services located in Cumberland. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a past master of Kemp Lodge 154 AF & AM in Mount Savage; past president of the Past Masters Association; 32nd degree member of the Cumberland Consistory of the Scottish Rite; and member of the Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland. He also was a member of the Western Maryland Amateur Radio Club and the Allegany Area Art Alliance.
Surviving are his devoted friend and companion, Virginia Sturtz; one foster daughter, Sandra Pague and husband Jim, LaVale; two grandchildren, Michael and Kimberly Pague, both of LaVale; one nephew, Thomas Brown, Cumberland; and two nieces, Carol Uhl, Mount Savage, and Dorothy Brown, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Kemp Lodge at the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Savage Methodist cemetery. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Donald Crowe, Jerry Crowe, Ken Currence, Ron Chaney, William Robosson and Marvin Wagoner.
BESSIE F. ASHBY
OAKLAND - Bessie F. Ashby, 102, of East Oak Street, Oakland, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Jan. 17, 1896, near Kitzmiller, she was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Louisa J. (Hardesty) Bray. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Justice Tasker, in 1920 and Ernest Ashby, in 1969; by two brothers, Elza Bray and Umber Bray; and by a half brother, Dorsey Kelly.
She was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene and a former member of the Crellin Ladies Aid.
She is survived by two sons, Ward L. Ashby, Oakland, and Clarence D. Tasker, Fairmont, W.Va.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Berlin Wilhelm officiating.
Interment will be in the Terra Alta cemetery.
DOUGLAS "DOUG" "COACH" BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Douglas J. "Doug" "Coach" Brown, 58, of Cumberland, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Eugene Brown Sr. and Frances "Frenchie" (Ketzner) Brown.
Mr. Brown was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a self-employed photographer. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1961 to 1963. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are one brother, Eugene P. Brown Jr., and wife, Joyce, Dale City, Va.; two nieces, Diane MacFarland, Dale City, and Cindy Lucas, Sugarland, Texas; two nephews, Paul Brown and Stephen Brown, both of Dale City; three uncles, Leo Brown and James Brown, both of Cumberland, and John Ketzner, Baltimore; and one aunt, Carol Hatfield, Hagerstown.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church at noon on Monday with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
