GARY L. CARDER
ELLERSLIE - Gary Lee Carder, 46, of 10117 Hummingbird St., Ellerslie, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 8, 1946, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Elsie E. (Johnson) Carder.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Susan E. (Speelman) Carder; son, Robert A. Carder and Tara Lambka, Cresaptown; brothers, Robert, Hampton, Va., and John, Mount Savage; sisters, Marie Kennell and Virginia Kennell, both of Kennells Mills, Pa., Paulette Brotemarkle, Cumberland, Margaret Smith, Richmond, Ohio, and Elizabeth Powell, Mount Savage; and granddaughter, Ceara J. Lambka, Cresaptown.
Mr. Carder was Vice President of Jack Abell Inc., where he had worked for the past 26 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and a member of Ellerslie Outdoor Club, Kennell's Mill Sportsmen's Club and Piney Mountain Sportsmen's Club. He also belonged to F.O.E. 1273, Frostburg, and F.O.E. 245, Cumberland.
Services will be conducted at graveside in the Porter cemetery, Hyndman RD, Pa., on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Sister Joan Minella officiating.
The Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, is handling arrangements.

BRUCE A. ASHBY
WESTERNPORT - Bruce A. Ashby, 72, of 117 McKinley St., Westernport, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Luke, a son of the late Clarence Ashby and the late Virginia (Maphis) Ashby. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Ashby Sr. and Richard Harold Ashby.
Mr. Ashby was a retired Bell Atlantic Telephone Technician with 38« years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va.; a member of Hiram Lodge #103 A.F. & A.M., Westernport; the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Cumberland; The Bethlehem Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star, Westernport; a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport; and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Margaret E. (Otto) Ashby; one son, William H. Ashby and wife, Linda, Swanton; two grandsons, Chase and Tyler Ashby, Swanton; one sister, Helen Metcalfe and husband, Ted, Naples, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman and the Rev. William Shimer officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Pallbearers will be Peter Ashby, Theodore Metcalfe, Bill Valentine, Mike Valentine, Dennis Riley and Bob Riley.

RICHARD LEE "RICKY" ASHBY
WINCHESTER, Va.- Richard Lee "Ricky" Ashby, 43, of Winchester, formerly of Moscow, Md., passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1955, to Donald E. and Elsie Louise Barnes Ashby in Cumberland, Md.
He had been employed as a cabinet maker for a counter top company.
He is survived by his fiancee, Brenda A. Steere, Winchester; his parents, Donald and Elsie Louise Ashby, Sterling; his children, Jennifer and Justin Ashby, Ashburn; his brothers, Calvin Ashby, Manassas, Michael Dodson, Sterling; and his sister, Krista Viering, Sterling.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, with a service at 7:30 p.m. and interment at Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Md., on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, from noon to 2 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills, with the Rev. Homer Beeman officiating.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Major and Blanche Ashby, Moscow, and Raymond and Myrtle Barnes, Moscow.
EDNA M. BROWN
FINZEL - Edna M. Brown, 80, of 941 W. Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 28, 1918, in Greenville Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Baer) Deal. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Brown; five brothers, Raymond, Melvin, Robert, Carl and John; four sisters, Dorothy, Betty, Kathleen and Pauleen; and one grandson.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She was a member of the Greenville Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, Pa., and the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, William L. Brown and wife Mary Ann, Crossville, Tenn.; a daughter, Wanda J. Coughenour, Finzel; six grandchildren, Tracy Youkin, Maiden, N.C., Julie Kenney, Finzel, Cathy Coughenour, Finzel, Michelle Toman, Danville, Ark., Ann Kinnick, Youngstown, Ohio, and Craig Brown, Crossville, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Youkin; four brothers, Ralph Deal, Salisbury, Pa., Walter Deal, Finzel, Donald Deal and Paul Deal, Pocahontas, Pa.; two sisters, Ethel Clark, Pocahontas, and Mary Belle Brown, Finzel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Greenville Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Fetter officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
NELLIE MAE DRUMM
CUMBERLAND - Nellie Mae Drumm, 97, of Allegany County Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, at the nursing home. Born July 30, 1901, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Crowe) Dean. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Drumm; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Drumm was a homemaker. She was Roman Catholic by faith. An avid bridge player, she was a member of several local bridge clubs and the Western Maryland Bridge Club. She was a former member of the HAP-O-HAPPY.
Surviving are three daughters, Elaine Palmer, Betty Mullan, both of Cumberland, and Bobbie McGeady, Carpendale, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Patricia E. Sansom and husband, Ben, Michael F. Mullan, all of Cumberland, Robert F. Mullan Sr. and wife, Deborah, Tipton, Pa., Debra M. Simmons and husband, Brett, and Thomas O. McGeady Jr. and Ann Bohrer, Diane M. Sansom, all of Cumberland; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher W. Sansom, Nicholas Mullan, Daniel P. Mullan, Michael Mullan Jr. and wife, Heather, Mickey C. McGeady, John T. McGeady and Jesyca A. McGeady; and two great-great-grandchildren, Austin M. Mullan and Shyra A. Mullan. Funeral services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday at 11 a.m. with Mr. Frank Werner officiating. Visitation will be private. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul cemetery.
MABEL S. ATKINSON
CUMBERLAND - Mabel (Smith) Atkinson, 89, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 7, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James S. and Nellie (Zarger) Smith. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Atkinson; and two sons, William S. Griffiths and Robert Tweedall.
Mrs. Atkinson was retired from the Ramada Inn in Tucson, Ariz. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the American Association of Retired Persons - 2400, Senior Citizens, Western Maryland Labor Council, and she was voted Mother of the Year in 1956 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Surviving are one daughter, M. Rosalie Benner, and husband, Conrad, Baltimore; three grandchildren, Connie Lee Memis, and husband, Hilton, Stevinson, Calif., Eric Griffiths, and William Smith Griffiths Jr., both of Philadelphia; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
The family requests contributions be made to the Salvation Army or to the Allegany County Animal Shelter.
KATHERINE E. EDWARDS
RAWLINGS - Katherine E. "Kate" Edwards, 84, of Rawlings, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 5, 1913, in Greenridge Station, she was the daughter of the late Emmuel and Ida Bell (Snyder) Keefer. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward J. McDonald; her second husband, Emory Edwards; one brother, Harry Thomas Keefer; and one sister, Rose Marie Keefer.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and a member of the Flintstone Homemakers.
Surviving are five sisters, Mary Jane Merica, McCoole, Melissa Agnes Hartell, Emma Gertrude Warner, Genevieve Margaret Keefer, Anna Bell Hartell, all of Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Parker officiating. Interment will be in Martin cemetery, Little Orleans.
