DOROTHY L. GARLITZ
ZIHLMAN - Dorothy L. Garlitz, 81, formerly of Zihlman, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born March 3, 1917, in Zihlman, she was the daughter of the late George and Veta (Stevens) Langford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Garlitz; and her brother, John Langford.
Mrs. Garlitz was a member of Allegany United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Ladies Aid of the Church, and the Women of the Moose, Chapter #221.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Allegany United Methodist Church.
RAGAA FADL, M.D.
CUMBERLAND - Ragaa Fadl, M.D., died Aug. 27, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Services and funeral were held on Aug. 28, 1998. He was buried in Sterling cemetery, Sterling, Va.
Dr. Fadl had been practicing medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital since his arrival to Cumberland in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Nadia; sons, Ali and Omar; and his granddaughters, Juliana Yasmine, Claire Aziza and Elizabeth Aisha.
LUCINDO JOSEPH "BUTCH" FABBRI JR.
NEW YORK - Lucindo Joseph "Butch" Fabbri Jr., 45, of New York, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas, Nev.
Born March 7, 1953, in Waco, Texas, he was the son of Patricia Ann (Hudson) Fabbri, Frostburg, Md., and the late Lucindo J. Fabbri Sr.
Mr. Fabbri was Vice President of Knit Fabric Research and Development for Tommy Hilfiger USA Inc. He was also employed at Polo by Ralph Lauren. Mr. Fabbri was a 1971 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School and received his bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md., in 1975. He was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving in addition to his mother are, Bill Yonke, New York; one sister, Vicki A. Warnick and husband, Roger; one nephew, Jason L. Warnick; one niece, Cindy L. Warnick, all of Kent Island, Md.; paternal grandmother, Rosie Fabbri, Frostburg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted by Fr. Vance Pastorious, O.F.M., Cap. at 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland.
Family requests contributions be made to St. Michael's School, Frostburg.
ROBERT R. LEE
SWANTON - Robert R. Lee, 76, of Altamonte Tower Road, Swanton, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at his home.
Born July 25, 1922, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Jacob R. and Lucinda M. (Carder) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a retired forester with the Maryland State Department of Forests and Parks.
He is survived by one sister, Ruby Shriner, Hagerstown; two brothers, David Leo Lee and Walter C. Lee, both of Swanton; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Lee's request, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Lee officiating.
WALLY S. HIJAB
LAVALE - Wally S. Hijab, M.D., 62, of Shinnamon Drive, LaVale, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1936, in Nablus, Jordan, he was the son of Shukry and Ismet Hijab.
In 1962, Dr. Hijab graduated from the University of Baghdad School of Medicine. Thereafter, he moved to the United States in June 1965 and completed a residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the New York Medical Center, Manhattan VA Hospital. In 1996, he obtained a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Dr. Hijab moved to Cumberland in May 1971 with his wife and infant son. He was in private practice in cardiology and internal medicine. He was board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Hijab was an active member of Med Chi; the Allegany County Medical Society; the American College of Cardiology; the American College of Physicians; and the American Heart Association. He also was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the West Virginia University School of Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Joanne; three sons, Sami, David and Alex Hijab; two brothers; and five sisters.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Prayers will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Imam Sayeed Mohammed, the Rev. Leslie Miles, M.D., and Father Frederick Cutajar, F.J., officiating. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
On July 25, an additional memorial service will be conducted at St. Anastasia's Catholic Church in Douglaston, N.Y., at 12:30 p.m. with Father Joseph P. Byrns as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of non-profit donations to the Wally S. Hijab, M.D., Memorial Scolarship Fund in care of Frostburg State University.
JAMES O. FAZENBAKER SR.
BARTON - James O. Fazenbaker Sr., 70, of Temperance Row, Barton, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Firm Rock, he was the son of the late Stanley Fazenbaker and the late Ethel (Custer) Fazenbaker. He also was preceded in death by a former wife, Phyllis Spiker; and a son, James Fazenbaker Jr.
Mr. Fazenbaker was a retired truck driver, and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was Pentecostal by faith. He played music all of his life with all types of instruments.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Lee Yoak, Donna Bennett and Phyllis Paugh, all of Barton; one brother, Stanley W. Fazenbaker, Barton; one sister, Dorothy Foutz, Barton; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Boal Memorial Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Madeline Cook officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Yoak, Jeffrey Yoak, Bud Bennett, George Green, Jim Foutz, Rodney Morgan and Raymond Lease.
BERTHA M. GARLITZ
FROSTBURG - Bertha L. Garlitz, age 85, of 1021 Beall School Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at her residence.
Born July 31, 1913, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Inez (Minnick) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by her husband Olin Francis Garlitz on June 8, 1977; and seven brothers.
Mrs. Garlitz was retired from the Bobbin Department of the Celanese Fibers Corporation. She was baptized a Catholic by faith.
Surviving are four sons, Edwin Garlitz and wife, Margaret, Frostburg, Ellis Garlitz and wife, Pauline, Frostburg, Paul Garlitz and wife, Mary, Beall School Road, and Herman Garlitz, California; one daughter, Leona McKenzie and husband Darrell, Mount Vernon, Ohio; three sisters, Blanche Spiker, Midland, Pearl Garlitz, Avilton, and Mabel Rush, Frostburg; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George R. Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Blocher cemetery, Garrett County.
