LOUISA L. GUNTER
CUMBERLAND - Louisa L. Gunter, 76, of Cumberland, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 15, 1921, in Petersburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Sydney M. and Helen (Henderson) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Gunter, in 1957; one daughter, Cynthia Leigh Wilson; two sons, William Pierce Gunter, in 1982, and David Carey Gunter, in 1979.

Mrs. Gunter was a teacher, a former director of Friends Aware, and a volunteer for many service organizations, including her recent work with Habitat for Humanity and Global Volunteers.

Surviving are one daughter, Lamar Gunter, York, Pa.; one son, Richard H. Gunter, Reading, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

At Mrs. Gunter's request, her body was cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday at 11 a.m.

Her cremains will be interred at the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The family requests contributions be made to the Cumberland Theatre.

CARLTON H. LAPP JR.
CUMBERLAND - Carlton Henry Lapp Jr., 73, of LaVale, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Carlton Henry Lapp Sr. and Louise (Hinkle) Lapp. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Lapp was a retired lineman from the C&P; Telephone Co. with 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church; Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM; Mountain Council of the Telephone Pioneers; and AARP. He graduated from Fort Hill High School, Class of 1942.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Catherine (Stewart) Lapp, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

LEOLA MAY KNIERIEM
LAVALE - Leola May Knieriem, 88, of 11106 New York Ave., LaVale, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Oct. 22, 1909, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Keech and the late Mary (Brotemarkle) Keech. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Michael Knieriem Jr.

Mrs. Knieriem was a lifelong member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the LaVale Fire Company with 50 years of service.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jeanne Mahew and husband, Don, LaVale; a son, Henry M. Knieriem III and wife, Carol, Corriganville; a sister, Evelyn Baker, Cumberland; a brother, Thomas Keech, LaVale; nine grandchildren, Linda Meckley, Cynthia Browning, David Mahew, Amy Mahew, Sheila Leasure (caregiver for her grandmother), Brenda Brewer, Paula Bennett, Susan Knieriem and Mike Knieriem; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Knieriem's wishes were that she be cremated at the Cumberland Crematory, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, 405 North Mechanic St., Cumberland, with the Rev. Rosemary Baumgardner officiating.

Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the Zion Reformed United Church of Christ.

HELEN INGE
BLACKSTONE, Va. - Helen Groves Inge, 78, of Blackstone, widow of Marvin E. Inge Jr., died Wednesday, April 1, 1998.
She was a native of Cumberland, Md., a graduate of the University of Maryland, and a teacher for Allegany County Public Schools for a number of years before moving to Nottoway County, Va.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John Randolph and Riuko Inge of Blackstone and Yokohama, Japan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Bill Wallace of Roanoke, and Judy and Jeff Harris of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Betty Groves of LaVale, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 1998, in Blackstone Presbyterian Church with burial in Lakeview cemetery.

NANCY HINEA
CUMBERLAND - Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Nancy Hinea at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul cemetery.

The family requests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 11 Columbia St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

Pallbearers will be Joe Helmstetter, John Dougherty, Howard Hovatter, Frank Thom, Bruce White and Jim Collins.

HAZEL I. FAUGHANDER
ORANGE CITY, Fla. - Hazel I. Faughander, 83, died Thursday evening, Nov. 5, 1998, at the John Knox Village in Orange City, Fla. Mrs. Faughander was born in Cumberland, Md., Nov. 10, 1914, the daughter of George and El lie Hensley and moved to Florida from Hagerstown, Md., in 1982. Survivors include husband Hugh Faughander of Orange City; son Harry F. Widdows of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter Marlene Jane White of Titus ville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard A. Widdows. The Minnick Funeral Home, Hagerstown, will be in charge of the funeral arrangements. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.

NANCY M. HINEA
CUMBERLAND - Nancy (Moore) Hinea, 84, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
She was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. "Duke" Hinea; and three brothers.

Mrs. Hinea was a homemaker. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a former member of the Cumberland Moose Ladies Auxiliary, the Cumberland Elks B.P.O. Ladies Auxiliary, and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are one son, Charles P. Hinea Jr., Heidelberg, Germany; one daughter, Mary Ann Burns, Manchester, N.H.; four grandchildren, Katherine Berkhousen and husband, Glenn, Michael C. Hinea and wife, Sue, Andrew C. Hinea and wife, Ruth, Paul Burns; four great-grandchildren, Dominic, Mathew, Patrick and Christoph.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.

Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul cemetery.

The family requests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 11 Columbia St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

IRENE E. KILPATRICK
CUMBERLAND - Irene E. Kilpatrick, 89, of Quebec Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at her residence.
Born Feb. 4, 1909, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Anthony L. and Mary E. (Potts) Clay. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Kilpatrick; one son, Theodore "Ted" Hansell; three sisters, Madeline Lloyd, Nellie Jones and Rosella Winters; and one brother, Anthony S. Clay. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Kilpatrick was a former employee of the Celanese Corp., Cumberland. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Goodfellowship Ladies Auxiliary. She was a truly loving person and will be sadly missed by her caring friends and neighbors.

Surviving is a special niece, Doris Nield and husband Richard, Wiley Ford. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews. She left behind her faithful companion of eight years, her poodle Tiffy.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
