GORDON B. GRIFFIN
CUMBERLAND - Gordon B. Griffin, 85, of Cumberland, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 15, 1913, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Lillie M. (Teal) Griffin. He also was preceded in death by his wife, S. Germain (Heyer) Griffin; one daughter, Patricia Niland; two brothers, George and Joseph Griffin; two sisters, Catherine Rhoe, Josephine Ricker; and one grandchild, Daniel J. Niland.
Mr. Griffin was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Department. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School and a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland in 1990. Mr. Griffin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Cumberland Moose, and Knights of Columbus Council #586, Cumberland.
Surviving are one son-in-law, Francis A. Niland, Falls Church, Va.; five granddaughters, Theresa M. Niland, Kathleen G. Niland, both of Falls Church, Colleen M. Niland, Sterling, Va., Melissa A. Woods and husband, Charles, Manassas, Va., Karen M. Niland, Falls Church; one grandson, Patrick D. Niland and wife, Kathy, Springfield, Va.; two great-grandsons, Blake Johnson, Matthew Pottmyer; and one brother, James Griffin, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
Graveside military services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
HARRY A. KEEDY
BOWIE - Harry A. Keedy, 94, of Bowie, formerly of Frostburg, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, in Greenbelt.
He was born October 8, 1903, in Eckhart.
He was the beloved husband of the late Hazel P. Keedy; the loving father of Faye M. Shockro, Manchester, Anne E. Keedy, Lanham, and Frank J. Keedy, Bowie. He also is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home Inc., Route 450 and Race Track Road, Bowie, on Tuesday, June 30, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Frostburg Memorial Park cemetery, Frostburg, on Wednesday, July 1, at 1 p.m.
VAUDA L. KIRBY
FROSTBURG - Vauda L. Kirby, 87, of 53 Meshach Frost Village, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at her residence.
Born Nov. 16, 1910, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Annie (Harvey) Brown. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. "Roy" Kirby, on Oct. 22, 1985.
Mrs. Kirby was the retired owner and operator of Vauda's Beauty Shop, Mount Savage. She was a member of the First English Baptist Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are four nieces; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor William G. Boyer officiating.
Interment will be in the Methodist cemetery, Mount Savage.
JOHN DAVID GRIFFITH
FROSTBURG - John David Griffith, 39, of Frostburg, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 12, 1958, in Frostburg, he was the son of Maureen (Grimes) Griffith, Frostburg, and the late Donald Griffith.
He had been employed by The City of Cumberland.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Frostburg Eagles #1273, and Frostburg Moose #348. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Michael William Griffith, and wife, Lisa, William M. Griffith, and friend, Phyllis Roque, and Guy G. Griffith, and wife, Bonny; one sister, Donna M. Griffith; one niece, Amy Gordon, and husband, Ron; one nephew, Jason Griffith, and special friend, Sandra Noel, all of Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
SUSAN MAY KERR
CUMBERLAND - Susan May Kerr, 88, of Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Vocke Road, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 28, 1909, in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Emma E. (Twigg) Gurtler. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Kerr, on July 1, 1977.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Kerr was a homemaker. She was a member of the World War I Veterans Auxiliary and the local Senior Citizens Organization.
Surviving are one son, John C. Crites and wife, Reba, Lancing, Tenn.; three daughters, Imogene G. Fairall, Potomac Park, Cumberland, T. Jane Welsh and husband, James, Frederick, T. Bonnie Lowdermilk and husband, Ronald, Bowling Green; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Welsh, James Castle, Michael Morris, Patrick Morris, Michael Lepley and Kevin Crites.
CARL D. LASH
FROSTBURG - Carl D. Lash, 72, of Frostburg, died Monday, June 8, 1998.
Born April 25, 1926, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late Irving and Helen (Baxter) Lash. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Lash; and a sister, Helen Haag.
Mr. Lash was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy; a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple belonging to the Shepherd Unit which transports patients to Shriner Hospital Burn Units; and a member of the Camper Club. He was a former member of the Indiana House of Representatives and was voted Indiana Father of the Year. He operated the consulting firm of Carl D. Lash and Associates; was executive director of Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation from 1986 to 1992; directed the community relations and marketing departments of Sacred Heart Hospital; and served as Legislative liaison for the Daughters of Charity National Health System. Mr. Lash served on boards of several charitable and business organizations including the Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Alleghenies, Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, Interfaith Consortium, Arts Alive Council at Frostburg State University and Potomac Boy Scouts of America. He was educated at Otterbein College, Ohio State University and Purdue University.
Surviving are a son, Carl D. Lash II and wife Sue, Fremont, Ind.; a daughter, Cynthia McCormick and husband Bill, Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Leona Ladd, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Carl D. Lash III and Christina Lash of Indiana.
In continuing his dedication to others, Mr. Lash donated his body to the Maryland State Anatomical Board.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday, June 12, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edward C. Chapman officiating. Eulogy will be offered by Loyal Park.

JOHN W. LOGSDON
BALTIMORE - On May 14, 1998, John W. Logsdon, 74, of Baltimore, beloved husband of Ruth M. Logsdon (nee McKeel) passed away.
He was the loving father of Linda Putsche, Lana Rutherford, Lisa Kristaponis and John B. Logsdon; and the loving grandfather of Christopher Putsche, Kara and Brian Kristaponis, Daniel Rutherford and John M. Logsdon; the Dear Brother of Rita Hartley, Marianne McGreevy, Eleanor Sheally, Monica Mason, Patrick K. Logsdon and the late Patricia Keyes. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 1998, at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of Victory Church, 4414 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, MD 21229. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Victory Church.
