DELLA M. KIMMEL
ELLERSLIE - Della M. Kimmel, 87, of Greenwood Street, Ellerslie, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at her home.
Born Sept. 19, 1910, at West Finley, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lee Reuben and Goldie Marie (Nelson) Stollar. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Byron E. Kimmel, on July 12, 1989; and a brother, Delmar Stollar.
Surviving are a nephew, L. Ronald Stollar, Pomeroy, Wash.; a niece, Joyce Setzer, Portland, Ore.; and close friends and caregivers, Lulu Belle and Leroy Kennell of Ellerslie, and Carol and Larry Huffman, RD 1, Hyndman, Pa.
Mrs. Kimmel retired from the Amcelle Plant of the Celanese Corp. of America in Cumberland. She was a member of the Ellerslie United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Services will be conducted at the Ellerslie United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating.
Interment will be in the West Finley cemetery, West Finley.
WENDELL E. HANFT SR.
CUMBERLAND - Wendell E. Hanft Sr., 73, of Polk Street, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1924, at Grantsville, the son of the late Arthur G. Hanft and Minnie E. (Conaway) Hanft. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Guy Hanft.
Mr. Hanft was employed as a lab technician for the City of Cumberland water filtration plant Lake Gordon, Pa. He retired in 1990 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Cumberland Grace Brethren Church, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria A. (Dixon) Hanft; two daughters, Gloria Jean Mellon and husband Ben, Tampa, Fla., Candice P. Hoffman and husband, Howard, Cambridge; four sons, Kenneth A. Hanft and wife, Billie, Cumberland, Wendell E. "Rocky" Hanft Jr., and wife, Bonnie, Lawrence D. Hanft and wife Debra, and Bruce K. Hanft and wife, Sandra, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Bernice Smith, Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Robert Hanft, Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wendell E. Hanft Jr. and Pastor Ray McCoy officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
The family has requested that contributions take the form of donations to Cumberland Grace Brethren Church.
THOMAS JOHN JAMES
FROSTBURG - Thomas John James, age 61, of 55 Ormand St., died Friday, April 3, 1998.
Born Jan. 28, 1937, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Dilmond and Anna (Morgan) James. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Scarpelli.
Mr. James was retired Chief Inspector for State of Maryland Division of Highways and was currently employed as a bridge inspector for the Allegany County Roads Division. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, a civilian member of the Maryland Troopers Association, an honorary member of the Maryland Sheriffs Institute, and was formerly in the Maryland National Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Janie (Davis) James; two daughters, Roxanna (James) McCormic, Leesville, La., and Alison Renee James, at home; mother-in-law, Ethel Davis, Frostburg; three sisters, Betty Whetstone, Darlie Kenney, both of Frostburg, and Dilys Sakai, California; three granddaughters, Jennifer McCormic, Tiffany Paulin, both of Texas, and Luci McCormic, Leesville; two great-grandsons, Gage Paulin and Ian Thomas Draney, both of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be co-workers, Kevin Beachy, Richard Cutter, Wayne Gross, Robert Malamis Sr., Kenney Riggleman and Dar Ringler.

LENA M. HANLIN
KITZMILLER - Lena Mae Hanlin, 77, of Kitzmiller, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Barnum, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Grover C. and Bertha (Tichinel) Tasker. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Eldred Durst; one daughter, Donnalea Tephabock; and one brother, Clarence Tasker.
Mrs. Hanlin was a member of the Emoryville Methodist Church and United Methodist Womens Association.
Surviving are her husband, Harrison Hanlin; one son, Randy Durst, Kitzmiller; her son-in-law Glen Tephabock and wife Bonnie, Elk Garden, W.Va.; two sisters, Marie Lyons, Baltimore, and Vera Lyons, Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren, Debbie Pennington and husband Charlie, Elk Garden, Tammy Hipp and husband Greg, Mount Storm, W.Va., Kellie Warnick and husband Clark, Oakland, and Shawn Durst, Kitzmiller; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Nethken Hill Methodist Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Gerstell III and the Rev. Tom Lanaker officiating.
Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery, Elk Garden.
HELEN C. KASTNER
CUMBERLAND - Helen Catherine Kastner, 74, of 1508 G, Oldtowne Manor Apartments, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 24, 1923, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late James Doyle and the late Helen (Jones) Doyle. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Kastner attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are a husband, William D. Kastner, Cumberland; two sons, William Gary Kastner and wife Marlene, San Bernardino, Calif., and Robert John Kastner, M.D., and wife Christine, Olney; and two daughters, Carol Ann Nance and husband Jerry, Waskom, Texas, and Deborah Kay Mathias and husband Garry, Baltimore.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
MAE HANLIN
CUMBERLAND - Mae Hanlin, 76, of Bowling Green, Cumberland, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born July 21, 1921, in Mount Storm, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter F. and Prudence (Aronhalt) Kitzmiller. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Hanlin.
Mrs. Hanlin was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mathew's United Church of Christ, St. Matthew's Women's Guild, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Barton Hunting and Fishing Club.
Surviving are two sons, Roy D. Hanlin and wife, Carol, Winchester Road, Charles F. Hanlin and wife, Judy, Mount Airy; three daughters, Linda L. Moreland and husband, Richard, Cumberland; Mabel L. Henley and husband, Butch, Frederick, Bonnie K. Evans, Herndon, Va.; three sisters, Flora Cosner, Petersburg, W.Va., Corene Shepard and Kathleen Rinker and husband, Luther, all of Mount Storm; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John E. Walker and the Rev. Robert Welsh officiating. Interment will be in Mount Storm cemetery, Mount Storm, W.Va.
BERNARD F. HANSROTE SR.
CUMBERLAND - Bernard F. Hansrote Sr., 75, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 17, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edward Adam and Jean May (Kear) Hansrote. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Faye Sharon Hansrote; three brothers, Edward, Robert and Glenn Hansrote; and two sisters, Ruth Ayers and Elizabeth White.
Mr. Hansrote was a retired machinist for the B&O; Railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Elizabeth (Little) Hansrote; one daughter, Joyce Ann Clark and husband Robert, Barton; two sons, Bernard F. Hansrote Jr. and wife Debbie, Swansboro, N.C., and Terry E. Hansrote and wife Karen, Elkton; one brother, Hulbert Hansrote, Cumberland; three sisters, Florence Leonard, Sunbury, Pa., Betty Twigg, Cumberland, and Jean Cope, Danville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Brent Bowman and wife Carisa, Todd Bowman and wife Angelique, Kimberly, Adam, Bryan and Sarah Hansrote; and one great-grandson, Blake Andrew Bowman.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Barkley officiating.
Interment will be in the Greenmount cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Brent Bowman, Todd Bowman, Dave Rinehart, John Little, Bryan Hansrote and Adam Hansrote.
