ROBERT C. LAFFERTY
CUMBERLAND - Robert Cecil Lafferty, 75, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born in West Virginia on February 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Howard and Effie (Beavers) Lafferty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Brema Sponaugle and Virginia Knippenberg; and a brother, John Lafferty.

Mr. Lafferty attended Fort Hill High School. He retired from the Chessie System after 39 years of service. A Methodist by faith, he was a private first class, Medical Corpsman, Company A 1st Medical Battalion during World War II. He landed in Normandy on D-Day and served in Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe before being discharged on Oct. 16, 1945. He was the recipient of the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. He also received the Bronze Star and the Silver Star for gallantry during combat.

He is survived by his wife, Freda M. (Shewbridge) Lafferty; one son, Robert Cecil Lafferty Jr. and wife, Natalie; one daughter, Joyce Ann Cockrum and husband, E.V. "Bud;" one brother, William C. Lafferty and wife, Dorothy; one sister, Betty Lafferty; three grandchildren, Joseph Yost Corley Jr., Ryan Shane Lafferty and Nicholas R. Lafferty, all of Cumberland.

Visitation will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William H. Bice officiating.

Burial will take place in Davis Memorial cemetery.

Donations may be made to Friends Aware Inc.

ANTHONY J. LAGRATTA
CUMBERLAND - Anthony J. Lagratta, 83, of Michigan Avenue, Cumberland, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 9, 1915, in Indianapolis, Ind., he was the son of the late Oriozo and Lena Lagratta.

Mr. Lagratta was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Lagratta was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ella (Marion) Lagratta; one daughter, Joanne E. Lagratta, Pittsburgh, Pa.; three sons, Michael A. Lagratta and wife, Nancy, Jacksonville, Fla., Kenneth J. Lagratta and wife, Lin, Baltimore, Anthony J. Lagratta and wife Linda, Telford, Pa.; two sisters, Josephine Paoletti and husband, Luige, Cumberland, Rose Zollo, Cumberland; one brother, Mike Lagratta, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

CHARLES R. LAMBERSON
LONACONING - Charles Reginald Lamberson, 74, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home since Jan. 6., 1998, formerly of 6 Pershing St., Lonaconing, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 7, 1923, at Barton, he was a son of the late Maurice Lamberson and Louise (Meyers) Lamberson.

Mr. Lamberson retired from Westvaco with 43 years of service, where he was a bleach room operator. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Barton Odd Fellows. He was a charter member of the Georges Creek Rescue Squad, Lonaconing, and former manager of the Lonaconing City Band. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Hannah Isabell (Wilson) Lamberson; one son, Charles Thomas Lamberson and wife Barbara, Lonaconing; one daughter, Linda Rae Gibney and husband Lloyd, Funkstown; four grandchildren, Beckie Rae Fazenbaker, Big Pool, Jessica Lynn Preston, Funkstown, Shane Thomas Lamberson, Lonaconing, and Betsy Ann Lamberson, Frosbturg; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Fazenbaker and Nicholas Fazenbaker, Big Pool; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 4, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Shussett and the Rav. Darnell Allen officiating.

Interment will be in the Mountain View cemetery, Moscow Mills. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

EMMA R. LANCASTER
HAGERSTOWN - Emma Rebecca Lancaster, 82, of 875 Pine St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
She was born Aug. 20, 1915, in North East, Md., the daughter of the late John C. Blank and Elsie VanDyke Lewis Blank. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick A. Lancaster, in 1967; two brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Lancaster was formerly employed by Dorbee Manufacturing, and she later retired from the clothing manufacturing industry.

She was affiliated with the Mount Lena United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Women's Classic Bowling League and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also had volunteered her time with the senior citizens at Walnut Towers.

Surviving are three daughters, Gloria P. Witt, Charlestown, W.Va., Shirley L. Andrews, Hagerstown, and Bernice V. Huff, Frederick; two sisters, Mary Steel, Cumberland, and Dorothy Blank, Wellersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Austin Blank and Andrew Blank, both of Mount Savage; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Elza M. Hurst officiating.

Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Youth Group at Mount Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mount Lena Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

JAMES R. LANCASTER
LAVALE - James R. Lancaster, 48, of LaVale, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 18, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of Mary (Lowery) Shrader, of Frostburg, and the late Harry Ronald Lancaster. He also was preceded in death by two stepbrothers, Steven Householder and David N. Shrader.

Mr. Lancaster was a warehouse man at Superfos Packaging. He attended Allegany High School and was a member of the LaVale Chapel Assembly of God Church, Cresaptown Eagles Aerie 2883, and the Piney Mountain Sportsmen Club.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Valerie L. (King) Lancaster; two stepsons, Douglas A. King and John L. Steinmetz, both of Cumberland; stepfather, Donald N. Shrader, Frostburg; stepmother, C. Jean Lancaster, Ellerslie; two sisters, Beverly K. Portmess and husband Mark, Cumberland, and Ronna Wagoner and husband Barry, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one brother, David M. Lancaster and wife Karen, Ellerslie; one stepsister, Linda Fox and husband Denny, Frederick; two stepbrothers, Tim N. Shrader and wife Linda, Kansas City, Mo., and Mark D. Shrader, Frostburg; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Terry and Julie Goldsworthy.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen M. Schuessler officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

MARIAN M. LANCASTER
FROSTBURG - Marian Mae Lancaster, 64, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 6, 1933, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Nida (Porter) Davis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan "Bert" Lancaster, Jan. 2, 1992.

She and her husband owned and operated Bert's Bar, Frostburg. She loved animals, and she loved to crochet.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda McKenzie and husband, Roger, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Christine McKenzie and Darren McKenzie and wife, Elly; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla.

Friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. H. Eddie Schaidt officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Darren McKenzie, Bill Swauger, Roger McKenzie, Olin McKenzie, Ronnie Keister and Regis McKenzie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Maryland, 11 Columbia St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
