MARY J. MACFARLANE
LONACONING - Mary Jane (Dawson) MacFarlane, 90, formerly of 8 Dudley St., Lonaconing, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient at Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland, since Feb. 11, 1997.
Born June 1, 1908, at Ocean, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. Dawson and Emma Elizabeth (Spiker) Dawson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles MacFarlane, who had MacFarlane Bakery in Lonaconing.

Mrs. MacFarlane operated a frozen custard stand in Washington, D.C. She was Methodist by faith.

Surviving are one son, Joseph W. Woods and wife Delores May, Inverness, Fla., formerly of Lonoconing; four grandchildren, George Woods, Dothan, Ala., Eugene Woods, Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Chris Wellings, Chesapeake, Va., and Mrs. Cindy Winfield, Dothan; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Dawson, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.

The body was donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board, Baltimore.

NORMA L. MADIGAN
DEER PARK - Norma L. Madigan, 67, of Church Street, Deer Park, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Dec. 17, 1930, in Parsons, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Delpha M. Uphold and Eva (Parsons) Uphold Madigan.

Mrs. Madigan was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church and the Deer Park Civic Club. She was a former employee of Thayer's Barn, the H-P Stores, and Deer Park Spring Water Co.

Surviving are her husband, Mason L. "Mace" Madigan; two daughters, Sharon Cole, Norfolk, Va., and Kelly Beachy, Swanton; one son, Lyle M. "Mike" Madigan, Deer Park; four sisters, Jean Smith, Baltimore, Jenny Welch, Mountain Lake Park, Rose McRobie and Alice Madigan, both of Deer Park; one half sister, Maxine Howdershelt, Albright, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Neil Parsons and the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.

Interment will be in the Deer Park cemetery.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 3152, Deer Park, MD 21550 or the Southern Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 378, Oakland, MD 21550.

ANNA B. MAGRUDER
BARTON - Anna B. Magruder, 81, of Cumberland, formerly of Barton, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born at Gilmore on April 2, 1916, the daughter of the late Ralph Barber and Jennie (Muir) Barber. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Sandy" Magruder; four brothers, William, Edward, Melvin and Harold Barber; and one sister, Pearl Willetts.

Mrs. Magruder was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and making carpet, and she especially enjoyed helping family, neighbors and friends.

She is survived by four sisters, Erma B. Wagner, Bolton, N.C., Jeannette Barber, Gilmore, Ernestine B. Owens, Cumberland, and Charlotte B. Fisher, St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, her body was donated to medical science, and there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation or to the charity of the donor's choice.

LAWRENCE R. "LARRY" MAIERS
CUMBERLAND - Lawrence R. "Larry" Maiers, 53, of Cumberland, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 6, 1945, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Richard and Helen (Ruppenkamp) Maiers. He was preceded in death by one son, Dale "D.R." Maiers, in 1996.

Mr. Maiers was a mail truck driver for Crites Transfer. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He attended SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce "Joy" (Landis) Maiers; one son, Gregory Scott Maiers, Cumberland; one daughter-in-law, Mary "Sunny" Maiers, Cumberland; two brothers, Donald Maiers, and wife, Linda, Cumberland, Ronald Maiers, and wife, Kay, Grantsville; two sisters, Carol Kesler, and husband, Jim, Cumberland, and Patty Todd, and husband, Dick, Fort Ashby, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Family requests expressions of sympathy be directed to the American Brain Tumor Association.

CUMBERLAND - Friends for Lawrence R. Maiers will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake will be conducted on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Vance Pastorius as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Troy Todd, Chris Todd, Jimmy Matrey, Michael Newcomer, Scott Maiers and Ken Maiers.

Family requests expressions of sympathy be directed to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018.

SOPHIE J. MAJERCIK
DEEP CREEK LAKE - Sophie Josephine Majercik, 76, of Deep Creek Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at her home.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Duquesne, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Vido Butcher and Mary (Perlic) Butcher. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Curly" Majercik in 1964.

Mrs. Majercik was retired from the Sun Drug Company and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Thomas Butcher, Las Vegas, Nev., and Joseph Butcher, Deep Creek Lake; one sister, Rose Phillips, Deep Creek Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. John Agapito as Celebrant.

Interment services will be at St. Joseph's cemetery in West Miflin, Pa., on Friday at 11 a.m.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland.

MABEL A. MAJOR
LONACONING - Mabel Annie (Bond) Major, 93, of the Egle Nursing Home, formerly of 92 Jackson St., Lonaconing, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 2, 1904, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late John Bond and Annie (Eisentrout) Bond. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Major, in 1960. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Major was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Lonaconing; and a charter member and first secretary of the Lonaconing Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a daughter, Joan L. Hershberger, Lonaconing; two grandsons, Ricky Hershberger and wife Karen, Lonaconing, and David Hershberger and wife Krista, Lonaconing; one granddaughter, Laura Hall and husband Tom, Richmond, Va.; and six great-grandchildren, Amy, Samantha and Jami Hershberger, Lonaconing, Jordan and Jared Hall, Richmond, and Nathan Moses, Lonaconing.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at St. Peters Episcopal Church on Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Leslie Miles officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mountain View cemetery, Moscow Mills.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
