LOUIS E. STITCHER
CUMBERLAND - Louis Edward Stitcher, 73, of 417 Valley St., Cumberland, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, suddenly at his home.
Born April 19, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Stitcher and the late Margaret (Grooms) Stitcher. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Elaine (Kreger) Stitcher.

Mr. Stitcher was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He was a graduate of Allegany High School and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; secretary of the Allegany Beagle Club; and member of the Kelly Bowling League. He was well known in the Cumberland area for baseball pitching, Stitcher Field being named for his brother, Carl Stitcher, who was killed in World War II. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Agnes Meagher, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. A wake service will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Carl Meagher, Louis Meagher, Mike Colosimo, Sam Jones, Earl Jones and Sonny Nichol.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Drew, Michael Drew, John Kreger, Steve Kreger, Francis Grimm, Francis Stitcher and Carl Meagher II.

VIRGINIA TRACH STITT
DEEP CREEK LAKE - Virginia Trach Stitt, age 65, of Fairmont, W.Va., and Deep Creek Lake, died on Thursday, July 9, 1998, at her home at Deep Creek.
She was born May 30, 1933, in Fairmont, and was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Paul Trach.

She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and West Virginia University.

She had a love of community and style that was evident throughout her lifetime. She worked as a school teacher, was the former Lifestyles Editor of the "Fairmont Times," an interior designer at Jordan Marsh in Boston, Mass., and also worked as an assistant to Earl Straight in the Public Relations Department at Fairmont State College.

Well known in Fairmont and in Garrett County for event planning and design, her most recent work included wedding design and consulting.

She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Fairmont, PEO Chapter D, Readers Book Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Green Hills Garden Club, and active with the Marion County Historical Society.

At Deep Creek Lake, she was a member of the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival and a charter member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont and St. John's Episcopal Church in Deer Park.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Edwin T. Stitt; two sons, E. Thomas Stitt III, and his wife, Jessica Stitt, Fayetteville, Ariz., and John Paul Stitt, of Boulder, Colo.; three sisters, Julia Welton, Elkins, W.Va., MerryBeth Hornbrook, Morgantown, W.Va., and Marthell Hanna, Sebring, Fla.; two brothers, John Paul Trach, Harrisburg, Pa., and James Mark Trach, Fairmont; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; eight nieces; five nephews; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and two aunts.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at Our Father's House "The Log Church," Route 135, Altamont, with the Rev. Fr. Chip Lee officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to St. John's Church for construction of the Orchard at St. John's, a Memorial Columbarium, 5234 Maryland Highway, Oakland, MD 21550.

The Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

ETHEL STOLTZFUS
CUMBERLAND - Ethel Metz Stoltzfus, 79, of the Cumberland Arms Apartments, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home. She had moved to Cumberland in November 1993 from Brandon, Fla.
Born Aug. 8, 1919, in Edwardsville, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William and Augusta (Eisenberg) Ohren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Leto Metz; one son, Larry Gene Metz; and one sister, Arlene Renken.

Mrs. Stoltzfus had been a licensed Practical Nurse, working in child care and geriatric care.

She was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Jean Justice and husband, George, Carpendale, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Metz, Brandon; three grandchildren, Jeaneine Root, Ridgeley, W.Va., Kevin Metz and Kelly Metz, both of Brandon; two great-grandchildren, Ricky Root and Trisha Root, both of Ridgeley; a brother-in-law, Leto "Junior" Metz, South Roxanna, Ill.; a loving sister-in-law, Velma Scheibal, Edwardsville; a special nephew, Lindley Renken, Edwardsville; caring friends, Bunny and Ruby Hardy; dear friends at the Cumberland Arms Apartments; and the loving Metz family in Illinois.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The body will then be taken to the Weber Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Edwardsville, Ill., where friends will be received on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill.

GEORGE STONEBRAKER
LAVALE - George Stonebraker, 94, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Narrows Park, LaVale, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Florida Hospital East, Orlando, Fla.
Born Nov. 3, 1903, in Foreman, W.Va., he was the son of the late Isaac Stonebraker and the late Hattie (Stonebraker) Stonebraker. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sara E. (Price) Stonebraker; a daughter, Betty Jean Jolley; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Stonebraker was a retired B&O; Railroad employee with 50 years of service. He was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church in LaVale, T.C.U. Fireman's and Oilers Union, and the A.A.R.P.

Surviving are two grandsons, Jim Jolley and wife, Susan, Orlando, Fla., and Richard Jolley, Ocala, Fla.; a great-grandson, Ritchie Jolley, in the U.S. Marine Corp stationed in Okinawa, Japan; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Jolley, Orlando; three sisters-in-law, the Rev. Grace Price, Rileyville, Va., Mildred Keech, LaVale, and Doris Stonebraker, Frostburg; and one brother-in-law, Charles Price, Texas.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens in LaVale.

RICHARD L. STONER SR.
LITTLE ORLEANS - Richard Lee Stoner Sr., age 80, of St. Patricks Road, S.E., died Friday, June 12, 1998, at his home.
Born March 14, 1918, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Clayton L. and Mary Emma Stansbury Stoner.

He was retired from Local #37 Operating Engineers and had worked for Industrial X-Ray of Houston, Texas, as a pipe liner.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #37, Baltimore, and a member of VFW Post #467, Westminster. A life member of the NRA, he was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Anna C. Stachnick Stoner, also of Little Orleans, whom he married on June 7, 1941, in Westminster; one daughter, Carol Lee Martin, and husband, Richard, Westminster; two sons, Richard Lee Stoner Jr., and wife, Shirley, Little Orleans, and Wayne Stoner, and wife, Chris, Mercersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Virginia Pickett and June Gosnel, both of Westminster; one brother, Carl Stoner, Westminster; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Rocky Gap cemetery Chapel, Cumberland. The Rev. Alan Smith will officiate. Military rites will be conducted, and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Orleans Fire Department #43, Orleans Road, Little Orleans, MD 21766.

HAZEL V. STONESTREET
FLINTSTONE - Hazel V. (Bender) Stonestreet, 82, of Flintstone, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in her residence.
She was born June 29, 1916, in Wellersburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Daniel and Alpha (Crabtree) Bender.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gay Robert "Stoney" Stonestreet; a son, Weldon Stonestreet; and by five brothers, Walter, Nyle, Sheldon, Harry and Howard Bender.

Mrs. Stonestreet was a member of Murley's Branch United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stonestreet is survived by three sons, Darrell W. Stonestreet and wife, Tammy, Flintstone, George A. Stonestreet and wife, Jane, Flintstone, and Aden M. Stonestreet and wife, Jan, also of Flintstone; one daughter, LaDonna R. Liller and husband, Jerry, Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Rice, Flintstone, and Mrs. Helen Blubaugh, Westminster; and grandchildren, Tonja Combs, Eric Stonestreet and wife, Teresa, Shawn Stonestreet and wife Teresa, Prentice Stonestreet and wife, Brandi, Aden Stonestreet Jr., Tiffany Clites, Aaron Stonestreet, Logan Liller, Misty Liller, Danielle Stonestreet and Darrell T. Stonestreet and Gunnar Henderson and wife, Robin; great-grandchildren, Ciara Combs, Cenoa Combs, Derrick Clites, Cody Clites, Autumn Clites and Austin Scott Turben.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.

Interment will be in the Green Meadow cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Frank Heavner, Randy Helmick, Robert Heavner, Junior Weicht, Paul Robinette and Gene Teter.
