ELSIE M. STRONG
WESTERNPORT - Elsie M. Strong, 83, of Spring Street, Westernport, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 12, 1914, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Elkany Likens and Cora Belle Bobo. She also was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Strong; one grandson, Christopher Strong; and three brothers, Lloyd, Claude and William Likens.

Mrs. Strong was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport. She was employed at the Celanese for a number of years.

Surviving are her husband, Richard W. Strong Sr.; one daughter, Betty J. Wright and husband William L., Westernport; one son, Richard W. Strong Jr. and wife Deborah, Westernport; one sister, Vauda Taylor, Westernport; five grandchildren, Kim Wright, Krista Busky and husband Chris, David Wright and wife Lisa, Mischelle Malone and husband Todd, Teresa Cook and husband Kenneth; and five great-grandchildren, William Zachary Wright, Amanda Renea Wright, Joshua Alexander Busky, Cody Allen Malone and Hallie Marie Cook.

Friends will be received at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jim Hannon officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Peter's cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad or to St. Peter's Church.

The Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, is in charge of arrangements.

RICHARD W. STRONG SR.
WESTERNPORT - Richard William Strong Sr., 88, of Westernport, died Dec. 23, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was born Oct. 21, 1910, in Mount Savage, the son of the late John P. Strong and Ida (Printy) Strong. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie M. Strong; two brothers, Joseph L. Strong and John T. Strong; two sisters, Katherine Nies and Thelma Margaret Strong; one son, Michael A. Strong; and one grandson, Christopher Strong.

He is survived by one son, Richard Strong and wife, Deborah, Westernport; and one daughter, Betty J. Wright and husband, William, Westernport. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kim Wright, Krista Busky and husband Chris, David Wright and wife Lisa, Mishelle Malone and husband Todd, Teresa Cook and husband Kenneth; six great-grandchildren, William Zachary Wright, Amanda Renea Wright, Joshua Alexander Busky, Cody Allen Malone, Tyler Keith Malone and Hallie Marie Cook.

Mr. Strong was Catholic by faith and was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport. He was retired from Westvaco Corporation after 44 years as a general mechanic. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was awarded a Purple Heart for serving in World War II. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #155, Westernport, VFW Post #6775, McCoole Queens Point, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Father Jim Hannon officiating.

Interment will be in St. Peters cemetery, Westernport, with full military honors being accorded by various organizations.

AGNES R. STUBY
LONACONING - Agnes Ruth (Creighton) Stuby, 85, of 5024 Adrian St., Rockville, formerly of Lonaconing, died Dec. 20, 1998, at Holy Cross Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1913, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late David Ingles Creighton and Catherine McCann Creighton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wade Stuby; a brother, Robert Creighton; and two sisters, Margaret Bready and Jeanette M. "Nettie" Ralston.

Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Maxine Kiddy and husband, Raymond F., Lonaconing; a son, Charles W. Stuby Jr. and wife, Joanna, Silver Spring. Also surviving are a brother, John Marshall Creighton, Moran Manor Nursing Home; and a sister, Ellen Creighton, Egle Nursing Home. Mrs. Stuby is also survived by Catherine A. Miller, a granddaughter, and husband, Tim, Lonaconing; grandson, Raymond Kiddy and wife, Lori, Frostburg; grandson, Jason Stuby, Front Royal, Va.; and granddaughter, Jessica Stuby, Silver Spring; three great-grandsons, Ross Kiddy, Garrett Kiddy, Gabriel Kiddy, Frostburg.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville.

ERCIL L. STUMP
ECKHART - Ercil L. Stump, 82, formerly of Eckhart, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harrison Jerome and Sarah Louise (Messenger) Stump.

Mr. Stump had worked in construction at Mount Storm. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

His wife, Elsie (Shuck) Lochner Stump, died Aug. 30, 1996.

There will be no visitation or graveside service. Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at the Frostburg Kingdom Hall on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. with John Richmond officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall Building Fund, Davis Farm Road, Frostburg, MD 21532.

The Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN A. SULLIVAN
CUMBERLAND - John Anthony Sullivan, 67, of 48 Marion St., Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home.
Born in Cumberland on March 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Andrew Benjamin Sullivan and the late Elizabeth Ellen (Johnson) Sullivan. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Sullivan; and a sister, Marie Dryer.

He was a former employee of the Celanese Corporation. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #1411 Cumberland, and was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his special companion, Anna Mae (Himmler) Randall; two sons, John A. Sullivan Jr., Joseph Sullivan; two daughters, Brenda Sue and Jennifer; three brothers, Frank J. Sullivan, Robert J. Sullivan, both of Cumberland, and Andrew B. Sullivan, Baltimore.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home by Father Milton A. Hipsley.

Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery.

Full military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

GEORGIA C. SUMMERFIELD
RAWLINGS - Georgia Carol Summerfield, 74, of Rawlings, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 11, 1998. She was residing with her son Ronald and wife Darlene when she passed to a better life.
Born Nov. 1, 1924, in California, she was the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Ferguson) Slater. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Omar Summerfield, June 15, 1951; and a sister, Maribel Colgin.

Mrs. Summerfield was a retired secretary from Raegan High School, Houston. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Cresaptown.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald J. Summerfield and wife Darlene, Cumberland, and Timothy R. "Tim" Summerfield, San Diego; one sister, Barbara Teller, Pittsburgh; three brothers, Richard Slater and wife Frances, Houston, Grant Slater and wife Jeannie, Houston, and Gilbert Slater, Walterboro, N.C.; a dear friend, Alfred "Marty" Martinez, Houston; loving sisters-in-law, Gloria Schlosser and husband Ray, Rawlings, and June Leasure and husband Burnie, Hagerstown; a brother-in-law, David Summerfield and wife Marie, Rawlings; four step-grandchildren, Nicole Cecil, Pullman, Wash., Larry Ashenfelter, Keyser, W.Va., Lee Ashenfelter, Ellerslie, and Carla Appel, Oldtown; three step-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Greg and Derrick; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark D. Peterson officiating.

Interment will be in the Biertown cemetery, Rawlings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Memorial Hospital Hospice Home Care.

JAMES H. SWADLEY JR.
FLINTSTONE - James H. Swadley Jr., 80, of 11300 West Wilson Road, N.E., Flintstone, formerly of Keyser, W.Va., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at his residence.
Born Feb. 24, 1918, in Keyser, he was a son of the late James H. and Bessie E. (Dawson) Swadley. In 1943 he married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Marshall. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1994.

Mr. Swadley acted as an attorney for the United States Government until 1945 when he began the practice of law in Keyser, and he served in that capacity until his retirement in 1987 as a member of the law firm of Swadley, Barr and James.

Mr. Swadley was a 1935 graduate of Keyser High School and a 1936 graduate of Potomac State College. He received his B.A. Degree from West Virginia University in 1938 and his L.L.B. Degree in 1940. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cumberland, Md., and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

A member and past president of the West Virginia University Board of Governors, he also was a member of the West Virginia Commission on Higher Education, the joint committee of the West Virginia State Board of Education and the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Bar Association. He also was a past member and chairman of the Board of Directors of the former National Bank of Keyser, and a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Western Maryland Bancorp.

Mr. Swadley was a member of various civic and fraternal organizations, which included the Keyser Rotary Club, of which he was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow, and was honored as receiving the Distinguished Service Award of the Alumni Association of Potomac State College.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean M. Weed and husband, Ronald, Atlanta, Ga., and Ann Kellermeyer and husband, William, Flintstone; one son, James H. Swadley III and wife, Louise, Beaver Falls, Pa.; five grandchildren, William Kellermeyer, Christopher Kellermeyer, Brian Kellermeyer, Lori Swadley and Matthew Swadley.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 4 p.m. with Dr. O. Morton Harris officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
