ADA M. SIMMONS
LAVALE - Ada Marie Simmons, 86, of Highway 54 and 1st Street, Hermitage, Mo., formerly of LaVale, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, in Hermitage.
Born Oct. 5, 1912, in Grafton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Warden Carroll and the late Florence (Custer) Carroll. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carlyle Simmons, in 1975; and a daughter, Betty Jean Richards, in 1978.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Haystack Mountain Sportsmen's Club, LaVale; and the Cumberland Ladies of the Moose 914.
Surviving are two brothers, Ted R. Carroll, Wheatland, Mo., and William Carroll, LaVale; one sister, Mabel Belogus, Cleveland, Ohio; one granddaughter, Kathy Holbrock and husband Jim, Cumberland; two great-granddaughters, Stacey and Brandy Holbrock; and special friend of 21 years, Daily Orndorff, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Lloyd McCanna.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
MARY SIMMS
MIDLAND - Mary (Clise) Simms, 80, of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of 11515 Kenner Lane, SW, Frostburg, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 17, 1918, in Midland, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Clise and Tinnie (Beeman) Clise. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James William Simms, on March 1, 1991.
Mrs. Simms was a member of Bethel Holiness Church and Central High School Alumni Association.
Surviving are two nieces, Helen Patricia Kenner and husband Cecil, Frostburg, and Mary Ann Kenner and husband Richard, Frostburg; and one foster niece, Mary Louise Fazenbaker and husband Robert, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Oak Grove Methodist cemetery, Aylor, Va.
CHARLES E. SIMPKINS
ELLERSLIE - Charles Edgar Simpkins, 85, formerly of Ellerslie, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Cumberland Nursing Center, Cumberland.
Born March 26, 1913, in Salisbury, Pa., he was the son of the late Stewart Nelson and Catherine (Kolfeich) Simpkins. He also was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Caroline Marie (Lowery) Simpkins; two daughters, Catherine Marie, wife of Raymond Sturtz, Dover, Del., and Marianne, wife of Wayne Bittner, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Grace Troutman, Cumberland; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simpkins retired as postmaster of Ellerslie with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Ellerslie United Methodist Church where he served on all committees as president of the official board. He served as president of the first Ellerslie Citizens' Committee when street lights and water and sewage were installed in the town. He was also a member of the Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Company, AARP, State Troopers Lodge #40, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter #410, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cumberland.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater. He was wounded and decorated with the Bronze Battle Star Victory, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater and American Theater ribbons.
Friends will be received at the Ellerslie United Methodist Church, Ellerslie, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Sturtz, Wayne Bittner, Wayne E. Bittner, Darren White, Edward Troutman and Robert Simpkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Irvin Lowery and Jude Shroyer.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Ellerslie United Methodist Church, the Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Company, of to the Ellerslie Ambulance Fund.

CATHERINE V. SIMPSON
CUMBERLAND - Catherine V. Simpson, 86, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Daniel and Henrietta Edith (Ruckman) Heivner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Rezin Clyde Simpson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and former post mistress in Wiley Ford, W.Va. She was a member of the First Church of God, Cumberland, and the Wiley Ford Homemakers.
Surviving are one son, William F. Simpson and wife Mary Louise, Cumberland; one daughter, Virginia L. Rizer and husband William, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Church of God Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Samuel Seletyn officiating.
Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Dawson cemetery, Rawlings.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
JAMES W. "BILL" SIMPSON
CUMBERLAND - James William "Bill" Simpson, 77, of Washington Street, Cumberland, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 5, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late August P. and Mary (Bucy) Simpson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie V. "Tootie" (Porter) Simpson; a stepson, James Marshall Weaver; two brothers, Charles R. Simpson, and infant, George Edward Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was a Methodist by faith.
Mr. Simpson had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired from the Military Sea Transportation Service-Department of Navy, where he had been a Chief Radio Operator. Mr. Simpson was a member of Ohr Lodge #131 A.F. & A.M., Cumberland.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Simpson LaRosa and husband, Joseph, Bethesda; a stepson, Ronald L. Weaver and wife, Catherine, Riva; a brother, John P. Simpson, Pasadena, Texas; a sister, Nancy Simpson Ryan, League City, Texas; three step grandchildren, Lori L. Thoman, James R. Weaver and Craig A. Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

SHAWNA D. SIMPSON
CUMBERLAND - Shawna Darlene Simpson, 32, of 432 Grand Ave., Cumberland, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aril 5, 1966, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of William Charles Simpson and Fay Arlene (Shrout) Simpson of Cumberland.
Ms. Simpson was employed at Christopher Photo Lab. She was a graduate of Bedford High School class of 1984. She attended elementary and junior high school in Windber, Pa.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a fiance, Dewey "Butch" F. Cook, Cumberland; a son, Morgan W. Cook, at home; a daughter, Shannon J. Cook, at home; two brothers, Randy Simpson, Bedford, and Craig Simpson, and wife, Marie, Huntingdon, Pa.; a sister, Stacey J. Nichols, and husband, Joe, Cumberland; and three nieces.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Bernard A. Yost officiating.
