MARTIN "MARTY" SCHWARTZ
CUMBERLAND - Martin "Marty" Schwartz, 87, of 841 Windsor Road, Cumberland, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 10, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Abraham Schwartz and the late Kate (Schwartz) Schwartz. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Schwartz was the owner and operator of the Rex News Agency, purchased in 1952, and founder of the Book Center. He was a member of Beth Jacob Synagogue. He was a member, past president and district lieutenant governor of the Kiwanis. Mr. Schwartz also was a former president of History House and was a member of the Upper Potomac Garden Club, Destroyer Escort Group, and Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he saw action in the Pacific and the Atlantic.
Surviving are a wife, Jean (Weisman) Schwartz, Cumberland; two sons, Howard Schwartz and wife Miriam, Takoma, Wash., and Lee Schwartz and wife Gayle Griffith, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Rachel and Samantha; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with Rabbi Shelley Becker officiating.
Interment will be in the East View cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

BURL L. SCOTT
WARSAW, Ind. - Burl L. Scott, 73, of Warsaw, died Friday, June 26, 1998, 12:11 a.m., at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Huntington, the son of Frank Scott and Elsie Sparks. He also was preceded in death by two brothers.
On Dec. 16, 1944, he married
Flossie L. Heitz, who preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 1992.
On Feb. 25, 1995, he married
Sadie Mauzy, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kay Clark, Westfield, Mrs. Terry (Peggy) Henry, Warsaw, and Mrs. Dail (Jan) Barber, Akron; one brother, LeRoy Scott, Andrews; one sister, Mrs. Orval (Fern) Kellam, Huntington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, on Saturday, June 27, 1998, from 2 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, June 28, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Merrill Hartman officiating.
Interment will be in Lancaster cemetery, Huntington.

LARRY R. SEEDERS
MANSFIELD, Ohio - Larry R. Seeders, 47, of Lakewood Drive, Mansfield, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died unexpectedly in Ashland Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the year of our Lord, 1998.
Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Carl E. Seeders, who preceded him in death in November 1974, and his mother, Thelma V. (Ashenfelter) Seeders, who preceded him in death in January 1975.
Mr. Seeders was a fire chief at Mansfield Lahm Airport. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Richland County Fire Chiefs Association and the Ohio National Guard Enlisted Association. He had been living in Mansfield for the past nine years serving as the Fire Chief at the airport. Larry was a 1968 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Cumberland, and was a former employee of Memorial Hospital. He was an active member in the First Civil Air Patrol in Wiley Ford, W.Va., and was an active member of the Short Gap Fire Company before he moved to Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Rhonda (Arthur) Seeders; one daughter, Leslie Seeders, Cumberland; two step-children, Rebecca Cecil and Charles Cecil, both of Mansfield; one sister, Donna R. (Seeders) Mellotte, and husband, Frank Mellotte Jr., Ridgeley, W.Va.; and two nieces, Pamela A. (Mellotte) Alkire, and husband, Pastor Joseph N. Alkire Jr., Troy, Pa. and Michelle L. (Mellotte) Hedrick, and husband, Jon R. Hedrick, Short Gap; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; and other family and friends.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery Chapel at Rocky Gap on Wednesday at noon with Pastor Daren L. Ritchey officiating.
Interment will follow in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Air Force Honor Guard from Bolling Air Force Base.

ELLEN T. SEIFARTH
FROSTBURG - Ellen T. Seifarth, 81, of Frostburg, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She has been a resident of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home for two years.
Born April 5, 1917, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Catherine (Groter) Carter. She also was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Seifarth was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Cecil Seifarth, a resident of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home; one daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Smith, Frostburg, two grandchildren, Andrew Smith and wife Yvonne, and Annette Flanigan and husband Robert, and one great-grandson, Max P. Flanigan, all of Frostburg; one sister, Anna Scott, Frostburg; and three sisters-in-law, Mildred Seifarth McDonough, Cumberland, Josephine (Knepp) Carter, Lonaconing, and Edna (McGowan) Carter Downton, Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Michael's cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

HELEN RUTH SELF
FLINTSTONE - Helen Ruth Self, 78, of 20610 Flintstone Creek Road, Flintstone, died Sunday May 17, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 14, 1919, in Gormania, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Frank and the late Minnie Rae (Imes) Somerville. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Williams; a son, Francis Self; a grandson, Kevin Williams; and three sisters, Sophia Wilt, Ethel Imes and Elizabeth Weese.
Surviving are a husband, Alvin Self, Flintstone; two daughters, Patricia Self, Flintstone, and Goldie Clites, and husband, Clarence, Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Russell Self, Flintstone, and Carl Self, and wife, Helen, Flintstone; four sisters, Ollie Wilt, Midland, Marie Simon, Deer Park, Catherine Maule, Crellin, and Nellie Saville, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Richard E. Ketterman officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale cemetery in Flintstone.
JUANITA MAY SELL
CUMBERLAND - Juanita May Sell, 73, of 317 Columbia Street, Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 9, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Russell Perdew and the late Marie (Bennett) Perdew. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard L. Barnes, Sr.; her second husband, Richard A. Sell; and a brother, Russell C. Perdew.
Mrs. Sell was a retired self-employed hair stylist at Juanita's Beauty Shop and D & J Designers. She was a member of Club "43."
Surviving are a son, Richard L. Barnes, Cumberland; two daughters, Rebecca Barnes and husband, Robert, Rockville, and Lara D. Foster and husband, Robert, Hagerstown; a sister, D. Ilene Lynch, Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Maxine Decker, Cumberland.
Her wishes were that she be cremated at the Cumberland Crematory. A service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were made by the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland.
