RICHARD S. SHAFFER
OAKLAND-Richard S. Shaffer, age 44, of 215 N. Second St., Oakland, died on Saturday at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
He was born June 20, 1954, in Altoona, Pa., and was a son of the late Willis T. Shaffer and Mary Lou (Bierer) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was the owner of Shaffer Ford Sales Inc. in Oakland. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland Lodge #192 A.F. & A.M., Cumberland Consistory Scottish Rite, the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Court #117 Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a member of the National Automobile Dealers Association, the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association, and was a member and past president of the Ford Dealers Advertising Fund. He was a member of the West Virginia University Alumni Association, the Wheels Club for WVU, and Elks Lodge #2481.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Bartlett) Shaffer; one daughter, Holly Brooke Shaffer; one son, Richard Bartlett "Bart" Shaffer, both at home; one brother, Randal T. Shaffer, Cumberland; one sister, Rebecca Williams, Oakland.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger and the Rev. Ann Harrison officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
L. JEAN SHANHOLTZ
DUNDALK - L. Jean Shanholtz, 69, of 1706 Pin Oak Ave., Dundalk, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at her residence.
She was born June 13, 1928, in Oyster Bay, N.Y., the daughter of the late James Crawford and Gladys (Lashley) Crawford. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shanholtz.
Mrs. Shanholtz had been employed by the Gourmet Caterers. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Henry Brecht Chapter, and the Edgemere Merry Makers.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie J. Howard, Dundalk; a brother, James Crawford; grandson, Jeffrey Howard; granddaughter, Susan Howard; and sister-in-law, Gloria Crawford.
Friends will be received at the Duda-Ruck Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 1998, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. the Rev. Doris Leitzel officiating
Funeral services will be conducted at the Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, Pa., on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Morris officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, Artemas.
ETHEL M. SHARON
CUMBERLAND - Ethel M. Sharon, 88, of East Elder Street, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Williamsport, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Rockwell) Sharon. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar, Francis, and Lester; and her twin sister, Juanita Miller.
Ms. Sharon was the former owner and operator of Ethel's Place in South Cumberland. She attended God's Little Chapel Church and Soul's Harbor Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Eloise A. Herring, Winchester, Va.; Thelma L. Foreman, Glen Shaw, Pa.; a half-sister, Gladys Obitts, Williamsport; five half-brothers, James Sharon and John Sharon, both of Hagerstown, William Sharon, Williamsport, Lewis Sharon and Charles Sharon Jr., both of Clearsprings; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Betty Kennedy officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
HARRY E. SHAW
MOSCOW - Harry Edward Shaw, 88, of 18402 Moscow St., Barton, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. He also had been a resident of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home after a fall at his service station.
Born May 29, 1910, in Moscow, he was the son of the late Edward Shaw and Elizabeth (Palmer) Shaw. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (O'Halloran) Shaw, in 1994; and five brothers, Jack, Walter, William, Roy and Howard Shaw.
Mr. Shaw was the owner and operator of Shaw's Service Station in Moscow for 65 years. He was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church. A 1929 graduate of Barton High School, he attended Catherman Business School in Cumberland.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma Shaw Nelson, Moscow; a son, Ronald Shaw and wife Martha, Lonaconing; a sister, Evelyn Shaw Marshall, Lonaconing; three grandsons, Daniel Andrews, Stephen Andrews and Craig Shaw; four great-granddaughters, Ashley, Tausha and Carley Shaw and Jenny Marie Andrews; and three great-grandsons, Justin, Matthew and Michael Andrews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Boal Chapel on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Georges Creek Library.

MICHAEL W. SHEEHE
CUMBERLAND - Michael William Sheehe, 47, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at his residence.
Born May 30, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William and Pauline (Raupach) Sheehe.
He was a 1968 graduate of Allegany High School and a graduate of Boston University. Mr. Sheehe, along with Elaine Cohen, owned and operated "Ex Libris" in New York for over 20 years.
Surviving are his sister, Paulette Beachy and husband, Rodney, LaVale; two half-brothers, Ronald and David Owings, Hagerstown; nieces, Beth, Sheryl and Dana; nephews, Brad, Stephen, Randy; and special aunt, Libby Petenbrink, of Devlin Manor; along with numerous other relatives.
At Mr. Sheehe's request his body was cremated. At his and the family's request, memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 111 South George St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
MARGARET L. SHEETZ
NAPA, Calif. - Margaret L. Sheetz, 92, of Napa, formerly of Cumberland and Baltimore, died March 21, 1998.
Born May 16, 1905, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Roselee O'Catherine. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John E. Sheetz; a sister, Stella Wagner; a daughter, Naomi Gill; two sons, Charles and Robert Bruce Sheetz and two stepsons, Edgar and Allen Sheetz.
Mrs. Sheetz is survived by one son, Leo J. "Buck" Sheetz, Grandy, N.C.; two daughters, Rosemarie Quigley, Baltimore; Dorothy Dunn; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill cemetery on May 16 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father Hipsley officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend.
