LOUIS A. SHEPHERD SR.
CRESAPTOWN - Louis A. Shepherd Sr., 81, formerly of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at the Bradenton Medical Center in Florida.
Born May 29, 1916, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late George and Hazel Shepherd. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Alta (Ullery) Shepherd; one daughter, Patricia Smith; and one grandson, Steven Shepherd.

Mr. Shepherd served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He retired from CSX Railroad in 1978. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Surviving are two sons, Louis A. Shepherd Jr. and wife Carol, Jacksonville, Fla., and Fred Shepherd and wife Sue, Elgin, Ill.; one grandson whom he raised, Herby Smith and wife Tracy, Elgin; one granddaughter, Deanne Weslow and husband Darrin, Berryville, Va.; and two grandsons, Donald Shepherd, Florida, and Jason Shepherd, Illinois.

Also surviving are three brothers, Floyd Shepherd, Rawlings, Vernon Shepherd, Bowling Green, and Harvey Shepherd, Kingsport, Tenn.; four sisters, Marguerite Sindy, Huntington, W.Va., Ramona Heller, Winchester, Va., Edith Wilson and Dolores Fletcher, Bowling Green; and a special friend, Marion Soper.

The body was cremated at his request. Ashes will be interred at Restlawn Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Heights Baptist Church, Oldtown Road, Cumberland, on Friday, March 13, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Denny Michaels officiating.

ISABELLE M. SHEPLEY
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The death of Mrs. Isabelle M. Shepley, age 73, occurred Friday afternoon in a local health care facility. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include: husband, Kenneth E. Shepley, of 182 Montego Bay Road, N.W., Milledgeville; sons, Tim Shepley, Atlanta, and David Shepley, Philadelphia, Pa.; brother David McKinnon, Detroit, Mich.; and sister, Della McKinnon, Keystone Heights, Fla. One grandchild also survives.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Central Georgia Chapter Alzheimer's Associatitn, 277 M.L. King Jr. Blvd., Macon, GA 31201.

Moore's Funeral Home, Milledgeville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

ERRA E. LONG SHERMAN
FREDERICK - Mrs. Erra E. Long Sherman, 86, of Clearfield Road, Frederick, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at her home. She was the wife of the late Bidwell Sherman, who died May 10, 1995. Also preceding her in death were eight brothers and sisters.
Born Feb. 19, 1912, in Patterson Creek, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John and Effie Goldeisen Long.

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick. She retired from the Hendrickson's Department Store, Frederick, where she had worked for many years. She also enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by five children, S.K. Sherman, June Green and husband, Charles E., Woodsboro, Judy S. Price and husband, Richard B., Fairfax, Va., William B. Sherman and wife, Susan L. Pennington, Towson, and Roberta J. Sherman Bogash and husband, Steven, Altoona, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Anita Danner, Rev. Don Webb II, Leigh Beth Price, R. Joseph Price, Cindy Wolfe, Peggy Johnson, Gene Sherman and Joseph Murray Bogash; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Don Webb II, grandson of Mrs. Sherman, will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

ROBERT E. SHERMAN
CUMBERLAND - Robert Eugene Sherman, 52, of Cumberland, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at his residence.
Born May 4, 1946, in Bloosburg, Pa., he was the son of Bertha Beatrice (Phillips) Sherman, and the late Floyd Eugene Sherman.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Louise Sherman.

Mr. Sherman was a construction worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Joe (Sarver) Sherman; one sister, Edith Ann Thomas; and one brother, Edward James Sherman.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap with the Rev. Florence Shewbridge officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Family requests contributions be used for the funeral expenses of Mr. Sherman. They may be sent directly to the funeral home.

MARY LEONA SHIELDS
WHEATON- Mary Leona Shields, 92, of Pasadena, formerly of Frostburg, died Oct. 30, 1998, after a long illness.
She was born in Frostburg in 1906, a daughter of James and Mary Ellen Clark.

She graduated from Beall High School and Frostburg State Normal School and taught elementary school in Garrett and Allegany counties.

She married George Shields in 1938 and moved to Baltimore in 1946 when Mr. Shields returned from World War II.

After raising her two children, she again began teaching elementary school in Baltimore and then Annapolis. Her husband was the Director of the Maryland Game and Inland Fish Commission, now known as the Department of Natural Resources.

After her husband retired, they moved to Florida until her husband's death in 1989. Mrs. Shields returned to Maryland and lived with her son until 1996 when she entered Randolph Hills Nursing Home in Wheaton.

One sister, Margaret Kirby, Frostburg; a daughter, Jacquelyn DuBaldo, Rome, Italy; and a son, Michael Shields, Pasadena, survive Mrs. Shields.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, Frostburg.

CHARLES E. SHINGLER
WESTERNPORT - Charles Edward Shingler, 69, of 21110 Creekside Drive, Westernport, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 22, 1928, in Franklin, Md., he was the son of the late George L. Shingler Sr. and the late Rosetta (Trenum) Shingler. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Shingler and George Shingler Jr.; and his first wife, Nina (Broadwater) Shingler.

Mr. Shingler was employed by Moran Coal Co. and Westvaco Resources, from where he retired. He was Protestant by faith.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (Westfall) Shingler; five daughters, Beverly Miller and husband Roger, Arthur, W.Va., Nancy Fazenbaker and husband James, Piedmont, W.Va., Linda Shingler Kyle and fiancee Philip Kenney, Frostburg, Vicki Fairgrieve and husband Dale, Barton, and Charlene Beeman and husband William, Eckhart; one son, C. Ray Shingler and wife Janet, Barton; two brothers, Calvin Shingler and wife Catherine, Westernport, and Harold Logsdon and wife Leona, Westernport; eight grandchildren, Dale Rotruck, Maria Swick, Renae Fazenbaker, Ashley Fazenbaker, Jeremiah Fairgrieve, Victoria Fairgrieve, Joshua Shingler and Sidney Ann Beeman; four step-grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon and Ray Miller, and Aimee Cooper; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Reel and Joshua Swick.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Mercer officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery.

CARL W. "BILL" SHIPLEY SR.
FLINTSTONE - Carl William "Bill" Shipley Sr., 62, of Murley's Branch Road, Flintstone, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at home.
Born May 20, 1936, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Ira Owen and Dorothy (Hymes) Shipley.

Mr. Shipley was a graduate of Flintstone High School in 1954. He was employed with the Department of Natural Resources. He began his employment with the D.N.R. in 1967, and he attended several training seminars through the D.N.R. Mr. Shipley was the recipient of the Governor's Citation for his contribution to Environmental Conservation. He also received the Woodmen of the World Citation for conservation. He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce M. (Dolly) Shipley; Mother-in-law, Anna M. (Humbertson) Dolly, whom he affectionately called "Pudge;" two daughters, Beverly C. Sherron and husband, Curt, and their children Daniel and Joanna Sherron, Cary, N.C., Julie A. Smith and husband, Monzel, and their sons, Patrick, Alexander, Ryan and Andrew Smith, Cumberland; two sons, Carl W. "Bill" Shipley Jr. and wife, Mitzi, and their son, Brent C. Williamson II, Burlington, W.Va., Brian I.O. Shipley and wife, Melanie, Manassas, Va.; two brothers, Robert I. Shipley and wife, Rita, Cumberland, Ronald L. Shipley and wife, Sylvia, Little Orleans; three sisters, Sandra Ymbert and husband, Frank, Damascus, Dorothy Hall and husband, Herman, Cumberland, Barbara Kolb, Cumberland, and her children, Deborah Sklodowski and husband, Bill, Ridgeley, W.Va., Scott A. Kolb and wife, Carolyn, Millsboro, Del.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna and the Rev. Glenn S. Jones officiating.

Interment will be in Glendale cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Williams, Earl Rice, Bob King, Ray Thacker, Charles Morgan and Kenny Deneen Jr.
