MARY ELLEN TRUE
CUMBERLAND - Mary Ellen True, 70, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her residence.
Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Dennis K. and Lillian (Day) Springer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward True, Sr., in 1982; and one brother, James Springer.

Mrs. True was a retired office manager for General Graphics in Cumberland, and was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventists Church of Cumberland.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha E. Barnett, Short Gap, W.Va., and Edna M. Spencer, Williamsport, Pa.; two sons, Charles Edward True, Jr., and wife, Bonnie K., Prince Frederick, and Donald W. Case and wife, Jacquelyn, Cumberland; one brother, Richard O. Springer, Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Frostburg, and Lorna Michael, Cumberland; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Brian N. Savage officiating. Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Higson, Ken Schiffour, Richard Daugherty, Eric Barnett, Jeromey Barnett and Nathan True.

MYRA L. TRUKA
CUMBERLAND - Myra Louise Truka, 86, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1912, in Bucyrus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Rutter and the late Kitty (Johnson) Rutter. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Rutter; and two sisters, Lillian Mennell and Ernestine Rutter.

Mrs. Truka was a member the Cumberland Civic Club; Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; and the Cumberland Country Club. She was a former member of Centre Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James E. Truka, Cumberland; a sister, Mary E. Saffell, Largo, Fla.; and two nephews, Corliss Rutter, Bucyrus, and James Rutter, Lady Lake, Fla.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakwood cemetery, Bucyrus, on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

FRANCES A. TUBBS
CUMBERLAND - Frances A. (Williams) Tubbs, 91, of Old Towne Manor, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born in 1906 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Mary Geneva (Masemore) Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. Tubbs Jr.; and one brother, John Williams.

Mrs. Tubbs retired as a bookkeeper for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in 1968. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, where she served as an elder, sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Highlanders. A volunteer at Memorial Hospital for 28 years, she was also a member of the McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star, as well as the Cumberland Women's Sportsmen Club. She was also a former member of the Kelly Girls Bowling League. She enjoyed reading, music and crocheting, creating 118 afghans that now warm friends and family members.

Surviving are one daughter, Eva T. Wilson, Cumberland; one son, William J. Tubbs and wife, Gail, Chestertown; seven grandchildren, George J. Wilson, Midwest City, Okla., Karen Wilson Zajd and husband, John, Raleigh, N.C., Suzanne Wilson Hunt, Burke, Va., Carl W. Wilson, Cumberland, Sandra L. Wilson, Oakland, Andrew B. Tubbs, Stow, Mass., and Sarah Tubbs Carney and husband, Philip, Middletown, Conn.; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Roby, Rachel Roby, Katherine Zajd, all of Raleigh, Zachary and Jacob Hunt, both of Burke, Cody and Natalie Wilson, Woodlands, Texas; two sisters, Mary Dawson and Dorothy Thomas, both of Cumberland; three brothers, Frank Williams, Carl Williams and Owen Williams, all of Cumberland.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Dr. O. Morton Harris officiating. Friends will also be received one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Music Program at First Presbyterian Church, 11 Washington St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

DOROTHY M. TURANO
CUMBERLAND - Dorothy May Turano, 81, of 229 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 25, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. Lowery and the late Hazel (Feir) Lowery. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Lowery, Mildred Woods, Anna Wagner; and one brother, Thomas Lowery.

Mrs. Turano was a former employee of the Celanese, Rosenbaums, Manhattan, Grafts Men's Store and Shinnamon Shoes. She was a life member of Pocahontas Ladies Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles.

Surviving are a son, John Turano Jr., and wife, Rosemary, Cumberland; a daughter, Mary Goss and husband, Raymond, Newark, Del.; two sisters, Lillian Anderson and Ethel Bobo, Baltimore; two brothers, Charles Lowery and wife, Jean, Bel Air, Md., Ed Lowery and wife, Doris, Baltimore; five grandchildren, Steve Goss, Fred Goss, Lisa Goss, Jennifer Hott, Gregory Turano; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Hott, Danielle Hott, Benjamin Goss and Emily Goss; two stepgrandchildren, Stacey Price, Jennifer Price; and one stepgreat-grandson, Bradley Price.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

CONSTANCE H. TURNBULL
CUMBERLAND - Constance Habig Turnbull, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 8, 1998.
She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Col. Franklin Turnbull; and sister of Robert Habig, Jeanne Huet and Phyllis Cladny.

Friends may call at Joseph Gawler's Sons Inc., 5130 Wisconsin Ave. at Harrison Street, NW, Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, March 17, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Services and interment will follow at the Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington, Va., at 10:45 a.m.

MARY ALICE TURNER
CUMBERLAND - Mary Alice Turner, 68, of 27 W. First St., Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 19, 1930, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edgar James Golden and the late Julia E. (Henderson) Golden. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Junior Turner, on Dec. 9, 1994.

Mrs. Turner was a member of Soul's Harbor Church.

Surviving are two sons, George E. "Buddy" Turner, Short Gap, W.Va., and Michael E. Turner and wife, Connie, Cumberland; two daughters, Linda D. Holmes and husband, Joseph, Cumberland, and Patricia L. Slider and husband, Ray, Moorefield, W.Va.; four brothers, Howard Golden, Toronto, Ohio, Edgar Golden, Short Gap, Donald Golden, Baltimore, and Arthur Golden, Cumberland; one sister, Zeline Singleton, Baltimore; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with Pastor Betty Kennedy officiating.

Interment will be in the Abe cemetery.

ADA D. TWIGG
CUMBERLAND - Miss Ada Daphne Twigg, 84, formerly of Cumberland, and a resident for the past eight years at Rest Assured Living Center, Meyersdale, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born near Cumberland on Sept. 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William U. Twigg and the late Virginia D. (Eyler) Twigg.

She was a graduate of Oldtown School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. For 25 years she was a Sister of Mercy. She was a nurse in the leper colony in Trinidad. She also practiced nursing in the Andes Mountains in Peru. She served as Supervisor in Mercy Hospital, Baltimore. She also was a nurse in State Hospital until retirement.

She is survived by one brother, Lloyd N. Twigg and wife, Naomi, Cumberland; two sisters, Olive F. Davis, Cumberland, and Barbara Garland and husband, Ralph, Cumberland.

Miss Twigg requested to be cremated at the Cumberland Crematory. She also requested that no services were to be held.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., was in charge of arrangements.

MARSHALL S. "DUKE" TWIGG
CUMBERLAND - Marshall S. "Duke" Twigg, 74, of Queen City Towers Apartments, Paca Street, Cumberland, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was born in Cumberland on April 23, 1924, the son of the late Marshall C. Twigg and Esther Louise (Hinman) Twigg. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Twigg was a stock clerk and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He also was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marine Service, having served aboard oceangoing merchant ships in service to the United States during World War II. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #245, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #271.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.

Interment will be at St. Luke's Lutheran cemetery.
