CARL M. BROWN
FINZEL - Carl M. Brown, 72, of Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, formerly of Finzel, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997.
Born July 4, 1925, in Finzel, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Finzel) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a former machinist for Goodyear Aerospace, Akron, Ohio, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two sons, Carl "Rick" Brown and wife Nancy, and Donald E. Brown and wife Becky, all of Finzel; one daughter, Linda Race and husband, Chuck, Frostburg; one brother, Harold "Sam" Brown, Frostburg; two sisters, Lucinda Drees and Shirley Drees, both of Finzel; six grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.

Interment will be in Finzel cemetery.

LOTTIE B. ERICKSON
CUMBERLAND - Lottie (Bishop) Benson Erickson, 89, of Reservoir Ave., Cumberland, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Shirley, in Flintstone.
Born Sept. 9, 1907, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Hadessa (Learey) Bishop. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Mutt Benson; her second husband, Roland L. Erickson; two daughters, Mildred G. Shepp and Juanita Diddie Hartman; three sons, Chester Buck Benson, Joseph R. Benson and Howard A. Benson; three brothers; one sister; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Erickson was a former employee of the Celanese Corp. of Cumberland, and was a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty H. Beckman and husband Ted, Cresaptown, Marguerite Midge Sponaugle and husband Jim, Baltimore, and Shirley Jean Smith and husband Elmer, Flintstone; three sons, Sam Benson and wife Mary, Cumberland, Donnie Benson and wife Mary, Dayton, and Carl Pug Benson and wife Margaret, Cumberland; three sisters, Carrie Shyrock, Oldtown, Ethel Schaidt, Cumberland, and Frances McCabe, LaVale; 30 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Lottie had eight--five generations.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sherrill A. Dillon officiating.

Interment will be in the Oliver Grove cemetery, Oldtown.

ESTELLA C. CAGE
CUMBERLAND - Estella Camille Cage, 96, of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 24, 1900, in Sandy Hook, she was the daughter of Clinton Evers and Catherine Clementine (Dunn) Cage. She also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Miss Cage was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class. She was a church pianist and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Surviving are one nephew, John C. Cage, Cumberland; and three nieces, Lucille Waters and husband Bruce, Springfield, W.Va., Camille Sluss and husband Tom, Frostburg, and Jeanne Cage, LaVale.

Friends will be received at Grace United Methodist Church, Virginia Avenue, Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.

The family requests that contributions be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.

The Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., is in charge of the arrangements.

JOHN S. ENGLAND
CUMBERLAND - John Samuel England, 90, of East Mary Street, Cumberland, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at the Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 18, 1907, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Sarah (Whalley) England. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Snyder. Mr. England retired from the B & O Railroad. He was a member of the Allegany County Board of Education; Christ United Methodist Church; Boiler Makers of America; and American Association for Retired People.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn (Sibley) England; one daughter, Robin Lynn Hall and husband David; one sister, Alma Mabel England; three grandchildren, Kathy Snyder and fiance Jeff Brinkman, Tammy Jean Plummer and husband Henry, and Dewey J. Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Plummer and Henry Junior Plummer, all of Cumberland. At Mr. England's request, his body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday at 4:30 p.m. instead of 1 p.m., with the Rev. Stanley Cardwell officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.

DIANNA K. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Dianna Kay Abe Brown, 37, of JFK Apartments, Cumberland, went to be with Jesus along with her nephew Todd Ray Abe on Wednesday, March 26, 1997.
Born June 17, 1958, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Aileen (Wolfe) Abe and Ivan Abe.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepmother, Edna Abe, Cumberland; one daughter, Kristina Abe, Indianapolis, Ind.; one granddaughter, Kristianna Imel, Indianapolis, Ind.; her grandmother, Ellen Lepley, Cumberland; one brother, Rick Abe and wife Wendy, Cumberland; two sisters, Vickie Smith and husband Charles, Flintstone, and Donna See and husband Thomas, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

A joint funeral service with her nephew, Todd R. Abe, will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Tabler, Jeff Price, Brooks Warner II, Ricky Bosley Sr., and Dale Wright Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Wolfe and Frank Izzett.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dianna Brown Trust Fund at the Chessie Federal Credit Union, 141 Baltimore St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

ELVA M. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Elva Mae (Hinkle) Brown, 82, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Oldtown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 18, 1914, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Perry Hinkle and Bessie Mae (Hartley) Hinkle. She also was preceded in death by her husband Millard C. Brown in 1980; also a son Donald L. Brown; and two brothers.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She also was a charter member of the Oldtown Bethel Assembly of God Church, a member of the Women's Ministry of the church, and was a Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by three sons, Joe M. Brown and wife, Patricia, Oldtown, the Rev. James R. Brown and wife, Bonna, Hagerstown, Roger L. Brown and wife Carol, Hagerstown; one sister, Frances Silber, Oldtown; six grandchildren, Steven Brown, Shari Kerns, Mark Brown, Michael Brown, Matthew Brown, and Kenneth Brown; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Oldtown Bethel Assembly of God Church on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the church on Sunday at 3 p.m. with Pastor Richard E. Wilson officiating. There will be one hour visitation prior to the services.

Interment will be in Oldtown cemetery.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

HAROLD R. BROWN
CUMBERLAND - Harold Richard Brown, 87, of 516 Ridegwood Ave., Cumberland, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1910, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George Leroy Brown and the late Lillie "Scarlett" Brown. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Brown was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. with 43 years of service as an industrial engineer. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a 1927 graduate of Allegany High School. He was an avid tennis player, holds the state record of the hop, skip and jump competition, and was a high school champion track star.

Surviving are his wife, Vada (Mills) Brown, Cumberland; a son, William R. Brown and wife Regina, Adamstown; a daughter, Beverly Ann Strelau and husband Edwin, Cincinnati, Ohio; and four grandchildren, William R. Brown II, Raleigh, N.C., Karen L. Finley, Adamstown, James Strelau, Cincinatti, and Kristen Strelau, Kutztown, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery.
