JUANITA C. COOPER
OAKLAND - Juanita C. Cooper, 84, of Coolidge Avenue, Oakland, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Oakland.
Born April 2, 1913, in Bayard, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mary (McCrobie) Brooks. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Otis P. Cooper, in 1985.

She was a retired cook, having last worked at the Golden Clinic, Elkins, W.Va. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Elkins, and was a former member of the Pythian Sisters, Gormania, W.Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Glendora Yost, and husband, Mahlon, Oakland; one sister, Flossie Likens, Oakland; one brother, Thomas Brooks, Greensburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Brenda Yost, Oakland, and Susan Yost-LaFrance and husband, Donald J., Gaithersburg; and two great-granddaughters, Jessica D. Yost, Accident, and Amber D. Foglepole, Oakland.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman and the Rev. Joe Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.

VERNA G. COOPER
CUMBERLAND - Verna Grace Cooper, 86, formerly of 516 Conrad Avenue, Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 28, 1911, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Catherine (Gulrey) Campbell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Cooper in 1960; a daughter, Linda Sue (Cooper) Horton in 1976; two sisters and two brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Cooper was a retired Allegany County cafeteria employee at Gephart Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann (Cooper) Pecora and husband Bill, Merrick, N.Y.; three grandchildren whom she raised, Shelly (Horton) Niverth and husband Henry, Olney, John Horton, Perth, Australia, and Leigh (Horton) Winters and husband Sean, Cumberland; three other grandchildren, Martin W. Pecora, Pinebrook, N.J., Debora Perna, Wanaque, N.J., and Jvonne Pecora, Merrick, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, one of which is Jean Wallizer, Cumberland; several nephews; and a sister-in-law, Sue Campbell, Carlisle, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood Streets, Cumberland, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Duffus officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

ERNEST F. CORBIN, SR.
ELLERSLIE - Ernest F. Corbin Sr., 62, of Ellerslie, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 15, 1935, in McCoole, he was the son of the late Edgar C. and Daisy E. (Lehman) Corbin. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Corbin was a retired painter working from Local No. 947. He was Methodist by faith. Mr. Corbin was a member of the Cumberland Eagles and Kennell's Mill Sportman's Club.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara A. (Merkel) Corbin, Ellerslie; three sons, Ernest F. Corbin Jr. and wife Sandra, Ellerslie; Michael A. Corbin and wife Angela, Port Orange, Fla.; and Jeffrey L. Corbin, Hyndman, Pa.; two brothers, Paul Corbin and wife Janet, McCoole; and Sherman Corbin and wife Jean, Keyser, W.Va.; two sisters, Goldie Livesay, Westminster; and Jeannette Simpson and husband Dale, Norfolk, Va.; and four grandchildren, Christopher Corbin, Christina Corbin, Chadda Fawn Corbin, and Jeffrey Lee Corbin Jr.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Ellerslie Volunteer Ambulance Company.

HAZEL M. HOOVER
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Hazel M. Reckley Hoover, 90, of 5160 Ashlyn Drive, Winston-Salem, died May 9, 1995, at Brian Center Nursing Home, Winston-Salem.
Born May 27, 1904, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of Thomas W. Reckley and Annie B. (Conrad) Reckley.

Surviving are her husband, Roman Cyrus Hoover; one son, Lloyd R. Norris and wife Kathy, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Charlsie L. (Norris) Wroten, Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, David Norris, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Douglas Wroten, Sandra Wroten, and Tracey Wroten, all of Winston-Salem; and one sister, Eunice V. (Reckley) Spooler, Cumberland.

Graveside services were at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick, Md.

LUCINDO J. "LOU" FABBRI, SR.
FROSTBURG - Lucindo J. "Lou" Fabbri Sr., 65, of Frostburg, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1932, in Frostburg, he was the son of Rosie (Rogano) Fabbri and the late Olivio Fabbri.

Mr. Fabbri was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He was employed in the maintenance department at St. John Neumann School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a 1951 graduate of LaSalle High School.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, the Cumberland Moose No. 271, the board of directors at Kelco Credit Union, United Rubber Workers Local 26, where he had served as an organization officer, the American Legion Farrady Post No. 24, Kelly Men's Bowling League for 40 years, Bouquet Mixed Bowling League, where he had served as president, and he was an avid golfer and fisherman.

In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Patricia A. (Hudson) Fabbri; one son, Lou J. Fabbri Jr., New York, N.Y.; one daughter, Vicki A. Warnick and husband Roger, Kent Island; one sister, Benilda Robertson and husband Dana, Eckhart Mines; two grandchildren, Jason L. Warnick and Cindy L. Warnick.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted Sunday at 8:45 p.m. with Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery. The Farrady Post No. 24 American Legion will provide military honors at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Warnick, Donald Wilhelm, Thomas Hudson, James Hudson, Harold Hudson, and Jack Hudson.

The family requests contributions be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church or "Save the Angels" campaign at St. John Neumann School.

C. WILLIAM GILCHRIST
CUMBERLAND - C. William Gilchrist, 81, of Washington Street, Cumberland, died on Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his residence.
Born Oct. 26, 1915, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Naomi D. Gilchrist. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Gilchrist Jr.

A graduate of Allegany High School and Dickinson College, Mr. Gilchrist was awarded a law degree from the Dickinson School of Law. On returning to Cumberland in 1940, he began the practice of law with the late George Henderson and the late William R. Carscaden. After George Henderson was appointed Judge of the Circuit Court for Allegany County, Messrs. Gilchrist and Carscaden were joined by the late W. Earle Cobey and the late Gorman E. Getty in 1943 and 1957 respectively. It was with the firm, Cobey, Carscaden, Gilchrist and Getty, and its successors, that Mr. Gilchrist spent his professional life, most recently serving as of counsel to the firm of Hidey, Coyle & Monteleone.

Admitted to the bar of Maryland in 1940, Mr. Gilchrist was a member of the Allegany County Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Gilchrist was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and served as past president of Cumberland Chamber of Commerce; past president of Cumberland-Allegany County Industrial Foundation; past president of Friends Aware; past president of Allegany County Bar Association; past president of Cumberland Jaycees; past president of Maryland Jaycees; past director and national vice-president of United States Jaycees; past chairman of the Allegany County Welfare Board; delegate to the Maryland Constitutional Convention; Trustee, Maryland Historical Society; director, Frostburg State University Foundation; member, U.S. Jaycees Foundation Hall of Leadership; member advisory board of United States Jaycees Foundation; director of Central YMCA; member, Rotary Club of Cumberland, Masonic bodies, Elks, and a number of other civic and professional organizations.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Jeanette Whelan Gilchrist; a sister, E. Jane Stair and husband Paul, Short Gap, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Gilchrist's request, he will be cremated, and his remains buried at sea. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave. is in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the League for Crippled Children, Allegany County Health Department, Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD, and the YMCA Heritage Foundation, 205 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, MD.

EDWARD R. COSGROVE
CUMBERLAND - Edward Richard Cosgrove, 72, of 12009 Kite Ave., Potomac Park, Cumberland, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 3, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Catherine (Nee) Cosgrove. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Cosgrove.

Mr. Cosgrove was the retired president of Cosgrove Cycle Company, Cumberland. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion. Mr. Cosgrove was a veteran of the US Army, World War II.

Surviving are his wife Nancy (Deffinbaugh) Cosgrove, Cumberland; one daughter, Mary Catherine Glessner and husband Kenneth, Cresaptown; one son, Patrick Denton Cosgrove and wife Joan, LaVale; one granddaughter, Christina M. Cosgrove, LaVale; and two sisters, Margaret Hartman and husband William, and Patricia Hunter and husband William, both of Bel Air.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Brant, Ralph Buser, Bob Lough, Jerry Grabenstine, Ed Mattingly, Jr., and Kevin Mallow.
