MARY F. COWGILL
CRESAPTOWN - Mary Frances Cowgill, 69, of 14224 Cunningham Drive, SW, Cresaptown, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edward Carroll and the late Margaret (Goff) Carroll. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow Cessna. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Cowgill was a former employee of the Crystal Laundry and the Corner Cafe in the Country Club Mall. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, Frederick N. Cowgill Sr., Cresaptown; two sons, Thomas J. Cessna and wife Debra, Romney, W.Va., and Frederick N. Cowgill Jr., Waynesboro, Pa.; two daughters, Etta M. Jenkins, Cumberland, and Selena R. Rouch and husband George, Cumberland; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Father Frank J. Brauer officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
THE REV. EVERETT S. GILLESPIE, SR.
OAKLAND - The Rev. Everett S. Gillespie, Sr., 78, of Wilson Road, Oakland, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Jan. 19, 1919, in Palmer, W.Va., he was the son of the late Burton and Myrtle (Campbell) Gillespie.
For the last 25 years, he served as the pastor of the Sunnyside Chapel. He retired as an electrical foreman from Island Creek Coal Company, Bayard, W.Va., and was a member of the U.M.W.A.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel M. (Enix) Gillespie; three daughters, Becky Ong, Parkersburg, W.Va., Deanna Mathias, Silver Spring, and Janice Gillespie, Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Everett S. "E.S." Gillespie, Jr., Culpepper, Va., and John Gillespie, Oakland; one sister, Ruth Martin, Akron, Ohio; three brothers, Burt Gillespie, Gary, Ind., Lynn Gillespie, Junction, Ky., and Bob Gillespie, Jackson, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard cemetery, Bayard.
JOHN M. COX
CUMBERLAND - John Mervin Cox, 68, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 23, 1997, at the Thomas B. Finan Center.
Born May 13, 1929, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clovis Russell Cox and the late Agnes (McMillian) Brown.
Mr. Cox was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a brother, Luther Cox, Cumberland; and a sister, Dorthea Shaffer, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
The Rev. HAROLD W. CRABTREE
LAVALE - The Rev. Harold W. Crabtree, 79, of Parkside Boulevard, LaVale, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 8, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late M. Percy and Martha B. (Gerlach) Crabtree.
Rev. Crabtree began an insurance career with People's Security Insurance as an assistant manager. Later he was employed as manager of Life, Health and Accident Insurance at George W. Brown Insurance.
He was a 50-year member of Zion United Church of Christ. Being born in Zion UCC, he was active in Christian endeavors. In 1973, a ministerial calling placed him as a lay minister at the Hyndman, Ellerslie, Corriganville and Wellersburg UCC charge.
He served as minister of St. Matthews UCC in Bowling Green from 1973 to 1978. During the next 11 years, Rev. Crabtree served as minister of Zion Lutheran Church and Reformed Church of Wellersburg.
In September 1990, for a one-year period, he served as an interim pastor of First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church on Bedford Street.
In September 1991, he assumed pastorate of Zion Church of Christ in Frostburg. He resigned from this position as of January 31, 1997, for health reasons.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle E. (Henry) Crabtree; one daughter, Carol Moore and husband Lind, Cumberland; four sons, H. William Crabtree Jr. and wife Sharon, Cumberland, Robert H. Crabtree and wife Connie, LaVale, James N. Crabtree, Martinsburg, W.Va., and David D. Crabtree and wife Pennie, Martinsburg; six grandchildren, Brenda Webb, Jefferson, Pa., Tricia Evix, Ashleigh Crabtree, Duane Gomer and Tina Gomer, all of Cumberland, and Diane Pilkington, Martinsburg; and two great-grandsons, Brenda Webb and Trevor Evix.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Danny Evix, Norman Filsinger, Charles Taylor, Duane Gomer, Leland Moses and Stan Sweeney. Honorary pallbearer is Tom Alderman.
MILDRED E. CRANE
ATHENS, Ga. - Mildred Ellen (Price) Crane, 77, of Athens, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
Born Aug. 31, 1919, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Russell Price, Taylorsville, Ky.
Ms. Crane was retired from the University of Georgia as a reference librarian. She was a graduate of Washington College and of Florida State University. Ms. Crane was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Elijah Clarke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are her mother Helen (Chappell) Price, Taylorsville, Ky.; one daughter, Barbara Crane Navarro, Paris, France; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan Townley and Cindy Sheffield Crane, Riverdale, Ga.; two brothers, Harold Price, Taylorsville, Ky., and Ken Price, Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Chip Crane, Christina Crane and Armando Navarro.
Graveside services will be conducted at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.

HOWARD H. HILL
CUMBERLAND - Howard H. Hill, 68, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 2, 1929, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Guy and Edna (Miller) Hill. He also was preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Hill was a retired steel worker for Lukens Steel Mill, Coatsville, Pa.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy L. Hill; three sons, Carson L. Hill and wife LaVerne, Chambersburg, Pa., Hector H. Hill, Prunedale, Calif., and Howard H. Hill, Coatsville; one daughter, Deborah Davis and husband Boots, Elizabethtown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Valerie Culp and Carson Hill II, both of South Carolina, Yvette Hill, Chambersburg, Bernadette Hill, Washington, D.C., Brian Davis, Elizabethtown, Pa.; five brothers; and nine sisters.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at noon with the Rev. Bernard A. Yost and Becky Rust officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

ARLENE E. CRAWFORD
SHAFT - Arlene Elizabeth Crawford, 58, of 12206 Upper Georges Creek Road SW, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1938, in Garret, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Eugene Ash and Clara (Shaffer) Ash-Boden. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Diane (Ash) Bittinger.
Mrs. Crawford was the operator of the Shaft Volunteer Fire Department's Social Hall. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Joseph Crawford Sr.; two sons, Joseph Crawford Jr. and wife Beverly, Shaft, and David Crawford, at home; two daughters, Terry Herman and husband Mark, Ypsilanti, Mich., and Peggy Northcraft and her special friend, Randy Winebrenner, Shaft; two brothers, Eugene Ash and wife Barbara, Laurel, and William Brant and wife Shirley, Frostburg; and seven grandchildren, Mark and Mike Herman, Heather and Fallon D'Antoni, and Casey, Joey, and David "Teddy" Crawford.
