ESTHER A. FARRELL
MOUNT SAVAGE - Esther Annie Farrell, 78, of 12906 New Row St., Mount Savage, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1919, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William H. Canty and the late Bessie (Bahr) Canty. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gordon Farrell.
Mrs. Farrell was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Savage, and was a member of the church sodality.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda C. Trimble and James A., Mount Savage, and Mary Sue Farrell and Hans Goerl, Boonesboro; a son, Earle D. Farrell and Jane, Eckart; four grandchildren, Erik Trimble, Carmen Brennan and Joseph, Sean Farrell, and Shannon Farrell; two great-grandchildren, Justin Brennan and Nikki Brennan; and a special friend, Sandra Deffenbaugh.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage, on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Mount Savage.
JACK AND ROSE GROVE
MEMORIAL SERVICES
CUMBERLAND - A joint memorial service for John M. "Jack" Grove and Rose V. Grove will be held for family and friends at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Second Baptist Church, One Grand Avenue, Cumberland.
Jack Grove died on Aug. 14, 1997, and Rose, his wife of 49 years, died on Sept. 23. Both donated their bodies to the Maryland State Anatomy Board.
Pastor Sherrill Dillon will officiate.
ROSE V. GROVE
CUMBERLAND - Rose V. Grove, 80, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at her home.
Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Carmella (Arnone) Orbello. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John McKage Grove.
After living in Cleveland, Ohio, for 35 years, Mrs. Grove retired with her husband to Cumberland in 1986.
Surviving are two brothers, Frank Orbello and his wife Angie, Eckhart, and Larry Harbell, Frederick, two sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee Harvey, Cumberland, and Frances Cook, Oldtown; four nephews; and four nieces.
Mrs. Grove's body has been donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church, where Mrs. Grove was a member, at 1 Grand Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502.
SCOTT S. GROVE
WESTERNPORT - Scott S. Grove, 89, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 263 Wood St., Westernport, died at the nursing home on Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997.
He was born May 8, 1908 at Aarons Run, and was the son of the late J. Simeon Grove and Fannie (Duckworth) Grove. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Elva (Beckman) Grove in 1990.
He was retired from Westvaco Corporation. He was a member of Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church of Piedmont, W.Va., and was a member of Luke Local 676 AFL-CIO.
Surviving are three sons, Albert Grove, Norfolk, Va., Robert Grove and wife, Patricia, Zanesville, Ohio, and Harold Grove, Westernport; four daughters, Alma Raines and husband Robert, Dorothy Michael and husband Bernard, Velma Wilt and husband Wilbur, and Nina Haggerty and husband James, all of Westernport; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Brackett officiating.
Interment will be in North Glade cemetery near Swanton.
CYNTHIA R. HOWE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Cynthia "Cindy" R. Howe, 38, of Nashville, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, of leukemia.
Born in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of Herbert H. Howe Jr., Nashville, and Jacqueline S. Smith, Koloa, Hawaii.
Mrs. Howe graduated from Allegany High School in 1976 and from the West Virginia University in 1980, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. She also graduated from the Tennessee State University in 1993, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was most recently employed by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tenn. Mrs. Howe was class president of Tennessee State University School of Nursing Honor Society, a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. She initiated numerous community activities, including: health screening for Special Olympics, relief for Hurricane Hugo victims, a coat drive for the poor and participated in feeding the homeless.
Surviving besides her parents are her step father, B. Neal Smith, Koloa, Hawaii; one brother, G. Michael Howe, Kerrville, Texas; her grandmother, Ethel M. Taylor, Rawlings, Md.; and two step sisters, Tracey L. Smith, Livermore, Calif., and Penny A. Edlund, Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorial services will be held at the West Harpeth Funeral Home, Nashville, on Friday at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthia R. Howe Scholarship Endowment Fund, Tennessee State University Foundation School of Nursing, 3500 John Merritt Blvd., Campus Box 9542, Nashville, TN 37209-1561.

GERALD E. GUY
WESTERNPORT - Gerald E. Guy, 72, of 219 Wood St., Westernport, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, in Reynolds, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Pansy P. (Smith) Guy. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ellifritz; and two brothers, Warren Guy and Thomas Guy.
Mr. Guy was retired from Westvaco Corporation with 31 years of service having worked in machine coating. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Westernport United Methodist Church, a life member of Victory Post No. 155 American Legion, Westernport, a member of Nancy Hanks Post No. 3518 VFW, Keyser, and a life member of Luke Local 676 U.P.I.U.
Surviving are his wife, Joann (Siever) Guy; three sons, Dana Guy and wife Lisa, Westernport, Steve Guy and wife Sandy, Bloomington, Mark Guy and friend Lisa Beavers, Westernport; three daughters, Patty Mazzone and husband Leo, Luke, Debbie Gordon and husband Bob, Keyser, W.Va., and Nancy Coll and husband Regis, Pine Bank, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Footen officiating.
Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport.
Full military honors will be accorded at graveside by various military organizations.
EVELYN C. GLOTFELTY
OAKLAND - Evelyn C. Glotfelty, 92, of Oakland died on Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at her home.
She was born in Oakland Dec. 6, 1904, and was a daughter of the late William L. Casteel and Margaret (Custer) Casteel.
Mrs. Glotfelty retired from the Garrett County Extension Agency where she worked as a stenographer for 17 years. She had been a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1930, and a member of the Naomi Circle of St. Paul's. She also was a member of the Garrett County Historical Society.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Glotfelty, in 1981; three brothers, Everett Casteel, Welba Casteel, and Carroll Casteel; and two sisters, Virginia Hall and Mildred Bucklew.
She is survived by three sisters, Louise C. Hood and Gertrude C. Savage, both of Atlanta Ga., and Norma C. Weeks, Greensburg, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.
