MARY E. HUGHES
FROSTBURG - Mary E. Hughes, 78, of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 16, 1918, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Vera (Dailey) Middleton. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Griffith Hughes.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Welsh Memorial Baptist Church, Frostburg, and formerly worked at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory.

Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Kallmyer, and two granddaughters, Maggie Kallmyer, and Rachel Kallmyer, all of Lutherville; two brothers, Larry Middleton, Hagerstown, and A. Ritchie Middleton, Frostburg; two sisters, Inez Middleton and Betty Harden, both of Frostburg; and several nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Hughes was cremated. The arrangements are under the direction of the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Welsh Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William G. Boyer officiating.

Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

RICHARD D. HUGHES
CUMBERLAND - Richard D. "Dick" Hughes, 64, of Hilltop Drive, Cumberland, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Dec. 27, 1932, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry Francis and Eva Pauline (McIntoch) Hughes. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Helen Lank, and Frances Pauline Northcraft; and two brothers, Robert Martin Hughes and Harry William Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was a Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a 1952 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He was a member of the 1950 and 1951 City High School Championship Football Teams at Fort Hill coached by the legendary coach, Bill Hahn. He actively participated in area softball and baseball teams. He graduated from the International Correspondence School in Scranton, Pa., a four-year course of instruction connected with his employment at Works 7, PPG Industries. While employed at PPG, he was the supervisor of the pipe shop and boiler house in the 1960s and 1970s. He also was a member of the Cumberland B.P.O. Elks #63, Cumberland Moose #271, Cumberland Outdoor Club, Cresaptown Eagles #2883, Ohr Lodge #131 A.F. and A.M., The Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree Mason, Ali Ghan Temple Shrine Club, The Shrine Railroad Unit, and A.A.R.P.

Surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Lynn Hughes, Bowling Green; and a fiancee, Viola F. Kemp.

According to Mr. Hughes' wishes, he will be cremated. There will be a memorial service held at a later date. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

HOMER H. HULL
CUMBERLAND - Homer H. Hull, 74, of Wempe Drive, Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1922, in Littlestown, Pa., he was the son of the late William M. and Anna (Schuman) Hull. He also was preceded in death by one son William B. Hull.

Mr. Hull was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and a retired, self- employed, salesman for the Wise Potato Chip Company. He was a member of the Cumberland Moose, and the Polish Pines Golf Club of Keyser.

Surviving are his wife, Betty (Ratke) Hull; two sons, Jeffery H. Hull and Steven M. Hull, both of Cumberland; and one brother, Wilbur "Web" Hull, Atlanta, Ga.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bill Easton, Jim Liller, Mark Liller, Kevin Ratke, Harold Appel, and Bryan Appel.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The family requests contributions to St. Mary's Church Organ Fund, 300 East Oldtown Road, Cumberland MD 21502.

ANNA M. HUMBERTSON
CUMBERLAND - Anna Margaretta Humbertson, 87, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, in the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 21, 1910, in Flintstone, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Nellie (Cunrod) Bennett. She also was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Delano Humbertson; and one brother, James M. Bennett.

Mrs. Humbertson was a Methodist by Faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Mildred Ann Younger, Cumberland; one son, Roy Virgil Humbertson, Centreville, Pa.; two sisters, Myrtle Bennett and Arlene Bennett, both of Everett, Pa.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold W. Crabtree officiating.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.

HARRY W. HUMMEL
GRANTSVILLE - Harry Wilmer Hummel, 78, of 493 Lower New Germany Road, Grantsville, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 5, 1919, in New Germany, he was a son of the late Henry W. and Emma (Warnick) Hummel. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, George M. Hummel and an infant daughter, Denise A. Hummel.

Mr. Hummel was a member and elder emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ. A retired farmer and carpenter, he also was a supervisor for Garrett County Soil Conservation for 40 years. He was a retired board member for Dairymen, Inc.; former director of Mountain County Milk Producers; former board member for Southern States; former member and director of Garrett County Farm Bureau; and member of Potomac Valley Production Credit Association, Farm Credit. He was a member of Mountain Lodge 99, AF&AM;, and Cumberland Consistory, Scottish Rite Masons.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rhoda Ruth (Shumaker) Hummel; two sons, John W. Hummel, Urbana, Ill., and Duane W. Hummel, New Germany; three daughters, Doris L. Cleveland, Bridgeport, W.Va., Carol Tippett, Fort Washington, and Rita C. Hummel, Damascus; a brother, Garland Hummel, Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Trinity United Church of Christ on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to church one hour prior to services.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ.

Mountain Lodge 99, AF&AM; will conduct a memorial service in the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

FREDERICK F. HUSSELBAUGH JR.
LONACONING - Frederick F. Husselbaugh Jr., 73, of 1211 Sam Crow Road, died Monday, April 7, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1923, in Henryton, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lola (Poole) Husselbaugh Sr. He also was preceded in death by one twin son, Jerry Husselbaugh.

He was a retired supervisor for Potomac Edison Co.; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was Protestant by faith. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose 348 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 1273, Frostburg.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years Mary (Wilhelm) Husselbaugh; one son, Thomas Husselbaugh and wife Sherry, Richmond, Va., one granddaughter, Anna Husselbaugh, Richmond, Va.; one grandson, Tommy Husselbaugh, Hawaii; five stepdaughters, Janice Werner and friend Elmer Rice, Debbie Clark and friend Gary Billups, Cathy Cutter and husband Johnny, all of Frostburg, Bevery Wiland and husband Sylvan, Grantsville and Judy Lovell and husband Larry, New Windsor; and one stepson, Kenneth Wayne Green and wife Debbie, Lonaconing.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday, April 8, 1997, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jay E. West and the Rev. Warren Friend officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 24.

Pallbearers will be Dean Green, Jimmy Green, J.T. Werner, Jason Clark, Mickey Clark, Robert Wiland and Troy Werner.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Northern Garrett Rescue Squad.
