N. ELSIE LEE
SAVAGE RIVER - N. Elsie Lee, 85, of 553 Savage River Road, Swanton, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at her residence.
Born Oct. 11, 1912, in Swanton, she was a daughter of the late John Sweitzer and the late Homa A. (Bowser) Sweitzer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Lee Sr., in 1987; a daughter, Sharon K. Snyder; a son, Elmer R. Lee Jr.; one brother, Raymond Sweitzer; and two sisters, Nellie Nazelrod and May Beckman.

Mrs. Lee was a former representative for Stanley Home Products. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Keyser, W.Va.

Surviving are two sons, Warren K. Lee and wife Carol, McCoole, and Glen "Steve" Lee and fiancee Robin Humbertson, Cumberland; four brothers, Carl Sweitzer, Swanton, Harvey Sweitzer, Cresaptown, Gay Sweitzer, Danville, and Joy Dale Sweitzer, Mountain Lake Park; six sisters, Laura Jane Madigan, Swanton, Emma Wilt, Savage River, Eula Kitzmiller, Keysers Ridge, Betty Steele, LaVale, Jenny Margret Menichi, McDonald, Pa., and Bonnie Lambert, Swanton; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Homer Beeman officiating.

Interment will be in the George cemetery, Swanton.

MARY O. LEFEVRE
ABERDEEN - Mary Ophelia LeFevre, 82, of Aberdeen, formerly of Friendsville, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace.
Born in Friendsville, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Laura (Fox) Guard.

Mrs. LeFevre was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and Lioness Club of Aberdeen.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, George F. LeFevre; two brothers, John J. Guard and Leslie G. Guard, both of Friendsville; and a sister, Jane G. Fox, Friendsville.

Friends may call at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, Aberdeen, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Aberdeen, on Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Schenning officating.

Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.

Memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc Debt Reduction Fund, 230 S. Law St., Aberdeen, MD 21001, or Eva K. Logue Circle of Grace United Methodist Church, 110 W. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001.

LAURA E. LEIGHTON
OAKLAND - Laura Ellen Leighton, 95, of Oakland, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 14, 1901, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Urias Sines and Dora (Rodehaver) Sines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Russel H. Leighton; and one son, Richard E. Leighton.

Surviving are one son, Russel V. "Sonny" Leighton, Oakland; four daughters, Stella Shaffer, Oakland, Dolores Jean Robinette, Centerville, Shirley Hauser, Baltimore, and Janet Cooper, Centerville; one half sister, Beulah Kitzmiller, Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Southern Rescue Squad, or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

GIOVANNIA LEPORE
CUMBERLAND - Giovannia Lepore, 86, of Independence Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born June 24, 1911, in Buccino, Italy, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francesco Lepore; and one son, Vincent A. Lepore.

Mrs. Lepore was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Women's Club of the church.

Surviving are one son, Nunzie Lepore, Cumberland; a daughter-in-law, Suzette Lepore-Schwartz, Halifax, Nova Scotia; two grandchildren, Melissa Lepore, Alexandria, Va., and Vincent A. Lepore Jr., Boulder, Colo.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

A Christian wake service will be conducted on Friday at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with Father Thomas Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul cemetery.

DONALD L. LESTER
CUMBERLAND - Donald Lee Lester, 78, of 624 Crest Drive, Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 4, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John G. Lester Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Beatty) Lester. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, John Jr., and Charles Lester; and a sister Ruth B. Lester.

Mr. Lester was a retired employee of B&O; Railroad, where he was a superintendent of the Welding Plant at Green Spring, W.Va. He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, Cumberland Elks BPOE No. 63, Tall Cedars, and East Gate Lodge No. 216 AF&AM.; He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Norma (Brown) Lester, Cumberland; and a sister, Margaret R. Lester, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd McCanna and the Rev. Adam Grim officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

The Elks will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Centre Street United Methodist Church or to the Cumberland Elks Lodge No. 63.

CARLTON W. LEWIS, SR.
FREDERICK - Carlton W. Lewis Sr., 69, of 7958 McKaig Road, Frederick, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1927, in Crellin, he was the son of the late Harold T. Lewis and Mary Frances (Wilt) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by one son, Terry A. Lewis, in 1958.

Mr. Lewis served with the U.S. Navy Seebees in World War II. He retired as a first lieutenant with the Maryland State Police and also retired from E G & G.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy J. Lewis; two sons, Carlton W. Lewis Jr. and wife Karen, Hagerstown, and William S. Lewis and wife Kimberly, Walkersville; three daughters, Carla J. Lewis, Frederick, Jeanne K. Lewis, New Windsor, and Krista L. Appleby and husband Dwight, Panama; one sister, Louise Hoffman and husband Walter, Cresaptown; and six grandchildren, Miranda Lewis, Tara Underwood, Phillip Underwood, Jocelyn Appleby, Sean Appleby, and Carly Lewis.

In keeping with Mr. Lewis's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

DOLAN LEWIS
CUMBERLAND - Dolan Lewis, 98, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Maple Street, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 24, 1899, in Petersburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Lewis. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl (O'Baker) Lewis, in 1985; and one son, Roy A. Lewis. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Lewis retired from the B&O; and Chessie System Railroad after 47 years of service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. He was a member of the Livingstone Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are one son, Robert W. Lewis and wife Geraldine, Cumberland; one daughter, Rosella Chalkley and husband Charles, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Linda C. Reuschlein, Roxann Wojcik, Randy Lewis, Pamela Shook, Roy Lewis Jr., and Ronald Lewis; 13 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy L. Monn officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Paul E. Shook, Ronald Lewis, Roy Lewis Jr., Craig Shook, Randy Lewis, and Jeremy Wojcik.
