ELMER T. LEASE
CUMBERLAND - Elmer Theodore Lease, 89, of 308 Bellevue Heights, Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at his home.
Born April 9, 1908, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jacob T. Lease and Margaret S. (Huff) Lease.

Mr. Lease was a retired employee of the Celanese Corporation of America. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his wife Lula H. (Snyder) Lease; one daughter, Linda Miller and husband Donald, Baltimore; five sons, James Lease and wife Lois, Pittsburgh, Pa., Ronald Lease and wife Diane, Pueblo, Colo., Gary Lease and wife Notra, Memphis, Tenn., Michael Lease and wife Pat, Cumberland, and Terry Lease and wife Jackie, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park.

EDGAR F. LEASE
WESTERNPORT - Edgar F. Lease, 80, of 430 Vine St., Westernport, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born Feb. 13, 1917, in Alaska, W.Va., he was a son of the late Amosco and Nora V. (Lechliter) Lease. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Louise M. (Hines) Lease on April 6, 1997; and one brother, Emory A. Lease.

Mr. Lease was a retired maintenance department employee of Westvaco Corportion. He was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles No. 2883, a member of the BPOE, the Loyal Order of Moose, and a life member of the United Papermakers International Union No. 676.

Surviving are one son, Ronald E. Lease and wife Diane, Poolesville; two sisters, Betty J. Evans, Cumberland, and Dorothy V. Steward and husband Robert, Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Michelle N. Lease, Baltimore; two nieces, Marleen Hines Pinto, Chesterfield, Va., and Lisa A. Lloyd, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; three nephews, David A. Evans, Sarasota, Fla., Gregory L. Steward, Greencastle, Pa., and Jeffrey L. Steward, Boonsboro; two great-nieces, Stacie Pinto and Tara Steward; and six great-nephews, Donald G. Hines, Douglas R. Hines, Joshua Lloyd, Camryn Steward, Joss Steward, and Zane Steward.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Footen officiating.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport.

CAROLINE L. LEASE
MOUNT SAVAGE - Caroline L. Lease, 78, of Delbrook Lane, Mount Savage, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at her residence.
Born March 11, 1919, at Hyndman, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Jesse I. and Masilda (Tharp) Willison. She also was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Frank M. Lease; two sons, Leo M. Lease, Mount Savage, and Frankie L. Laase and wife Christine, Mount Savage; three daughters, Dorothy E. Lydard and husband Arnold, Sykesville, Merdieth K. Diehl and husband Maynard, Buffalo Mills, Pa., and Hattie J. McGowan and husband Vince, Big Pool; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Lease was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Korns officiating. Interment will be in the Madley cemetery, Buffalo Mills.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Eric William Lilly, David Hall, Jr., Jeffrey Hall, Rodney Diehl, Craig Diehl, Leo Lease, Mark Lease, Clinton Lease and Doug Lease.

Memorials may be sent to the Hospice Unit, Western Maryland Health System, 900 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502.

JOSEPH A. LEACH SR.
FROSTBURG - Joseph Anderson Leach Sr., 77, of 225 Armstrong Ave., Frostburg, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1919, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of the late Joseph Anderson Leach and the late Phoebe (Dunn) Leach. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Wendel Leach; and a sister, Pauline Brightwell.

Mr. Leach was formerly employed as a superintendent at Kaiser Aluminum Refractories in Zihlman; as executive vice president of Howmett Jet Corp.; vice president of sales at Drexel Dynamics; plant manager of Alliance Fire Brick Co., Alliance, Ohio; and plant manager of Mount Savage Brick Yards. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Bridget (Haupt) Leach, Frostburg; two daughters, Joan A. Resh and husband Harold, Grantsville, and Gail S. Crowe and husband Edward, Sr., Frostburg; one son, Joseph A. Leach Jr., Cumberland; one brother W. Basil Leach, Mexico, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Leach and wife Megan, LaVale, Jennifer A. Painter and husband Darren, Short Gap, W.Va., Tracey L. Crowe, Frostburg, Edward L. Crowe Jr., Frostburg, Kevin J. Crowe, Frostburg, Heather Resh Hackett and husband Tony, Grantsville, and Holly Resh Sanner, Terra Alta, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Leach and Ashley Hackett; and lifelong friend, William Lowdermilk, Friendsville.

A private viewing, followed by cremation, will be conducted at his request.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

HAROLD LAYMAN JR.
CRESTVIEW, Fla. - Harold Layman Jr., 68, of Crestview, formerly of Frostburg, Md., died Friday, March 21, 1997, at his residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1928, in Avilton, Md., he was the son of the late Harold G. and Ruby E. (Green) Layman. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, John T. and Robert F. Layman.

Mr. Layman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are three sisters, Viola O. Beeman, Midland, Md., Marie E. Volz and June E. Hawkins, Cumberland, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated.

The Whitehurst Mortuary, Crestview, was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

MARY A. LASHBAUGH
ZIHLMAN - Mary Alice Lashbaugh, 81, a resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of Zihlman, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 1, 1916, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Smith) Sween.

Mrs. Lashbaugh was a member of the Zihlman United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, William Lashbaugh Sr., Frostburg; two sons, William Lashbaugh Jr. and wife Martha, Eckhart, and Wesley Lashbaugh and wife Gladys, Frostburg; one daughter, Barbara Stevenson and husband John, Glen Rock, Pa.; six grandchildren, David Lashbaugh, Tina McKenzie, William Lashbaugh III, Ellen Kitzmiller, John Stevenson III, and Jeffrey Stevenson; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Lashbaugh, Terra McKenzie, Brant Kitzmiller, and Morgan Stevenson; one brother, Donald Sween, Mount Savage; and one sister, Naomi Sweeney, Keyser, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

LOUIS W. LASHBAUGH
BARTON - Louis William "Louie" Lashbaugh, 86, of Temperance Row, Barton, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 28, 1997, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born March 2, 1911, he was the son of the late William Lashbaugh and the late Alice (Sluss) Lashbaugh. He also was preceded in death by his only brother, Richard Lashbaugh, Chicago. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Lashbaugh retired in 1976 from the Westvaco Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Barton United Methodist Church; McCoole Queens Point VFW; Barton American Legion 189; and both Barton and Georges Creek senior citizens. He was the catcher on Westvaco's baseball team in the late 1940s.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Althea Catherine (Robertson) Lashbaugh; two daughters, Judith Ann Donaldson and husband Tim, and Patricia Ann Gowans and husband Harry, all of Lonaconing; one grandson, Harry Charles Donaldson, Lonaconing; one granddaughter, Catherine Ann (Donaldson) Riley and husband John Michael, Cumberland; and four great-grandchildren, Annie Donaldson, Friendsville, Justin Michael Winner, Cumberland, Brady Mathew Donaldson, Swanton, and Jack Henry Riley, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the chapel on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiatng.

Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service at the chapel on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. Queens Point VFW will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Barton United Methodist Church.
