JEWELL B. PFAFF
BALTIMORE - Jewell B. Pfaff, of Baltimore, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997.
Mrs. Pfaff was the beloved wife of Milton Pfaff and the devoted mother of Barbara Williams and Rhonda Hamel; step mother of Barbara Lau and Roberta Hanna; dear sister of John Lewis, Doris Myers, Marilyn Stevenson and Carol Mills. She is also survived by five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Bradley-Ashton Funeral Home, 2134 Willow Spring Road, Baltimore, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

ELLSWORTH J. MCAFEE II
SPRING HILL, Fla. - Ellsworth John McAfee II, 72, of Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at his residence.
Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ellsworth John and Herretta Jane (Ruppenthal) McAfee. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann Grimm; and a brother, William Samuel McAfee.

Mr. McAfee was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and had owned a service station in Frostburg. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. While living in Cumberland, Mr. McAfee was a member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church, and then a member of the First United Methodist Church in Spring Hill. He volunteered at the Oak Hill Columbia Regional Hospital, Spring Hill, was a member of the Fort Cumberland Lodge No. 211 AF&AM;, the Scottish and York Rite, and was a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Club with the Mounted Patrol Unit.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel Lucille "Lou" McAfee; a son, Ellsworth John McAfee III, Cumberland; a daughter, Sandra Thomas, Greencastle, Pa.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Drew Thomas, Tara Michelle Thomas, Trisha Nicole Thomas, Ellsworth John McAfee IV, William James McAfee, and Kelly Lynn McAfee; four nieces; and one nephew.

Friends will be receive at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at noon with the Rev. Adam E. Grim officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

THOMAS J. "TOAD" MCATEER
FROSTBURG, MD - Thomas J. "Toad" McAteer, 76, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, died at his home on Thursday, March 6, 1997.
Born Feb. 4, 1921 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Owen C. and Margaret (Greene) McAteer. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Dorsey and Rita Ingram.

,,,,,He was a retired carpenter. Mr. McAteer was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by one son, Thomas McAteer and wife, Cheryl; three daughters, Maude Banks, Margaret Trijille and Jeanne McDow, all of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, James M. McAteer, Paw Paw, W.Va., and Owen McAteer, Oldtown, Md., and three sisters, Margaret Crump, New Boston, Mich.; Alice Koepke, Milwaukee, Wisc., and Winifred Kilian, Rosedale, Md.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Deacon Herman J. Grabenstein officiating.

Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

ARTHUR C. SMITH
CHARLESTOWN, Ind. - Arthur Cornelius Smith, 76, of Charlestown, formerly of Barton, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at the Medical Center of Southern Indiana.
He was a son of the late Cornelius and Susan Smith, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He also was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters.

Mr. Smith was a retired millwright for International Harvester Company, Louisville, Ky., and he was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maggie Fairchild Smith; three sons, Ronnie, Archie and Dexter Smith; four daughters, Janeen Cook, Dianna Howard, Lena Fraley and Karen Smith, all of Charlestown; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, with interment in Charlestown cemetery.

GENE G. MCCLOUD
KITZMILLER - Gene Gibson "Sleepy" McCloud, 68, of Kitzmiller, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at Dennett Road Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born July 19, 1928, in Blaine, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Jessie (Kirby) McCloud.

Mr. McCloud was a retired coal miner and auto mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are two brothers, Lee McCloud, Kitzmiller, and Cecil J. McCloud, Elk Garden, W.Va.; three sisters, Sarah McCafferty, Fairmont, W.Va., Margaret McCloud, Kitzmiller, and Flossie Conley, Mt. Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home chapel Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Phillips officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh cemetery, Elk Garden.

ISABEL McCORMICK
LONACONING - Isabel (Shearer) McCormick, 76, formerly of 30 Island St., died Dec. 20, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 22, 1921, in Midland, she was the daughter of the late David and Mary (Johnston) Shearer. Mrs. McCormick also was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander McCormick, on May 4, 1993.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, and the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek.

Surviving are a son, John E. McCormick, Brunswick, Maine; two daughters, Janet M. Gordon Knetizer, Oldtown, and Mary Etta Carter, Ridgeley, with whom she resided. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Shearer, Centerville, Pa., and William Shearer, Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Norma Shearer Alexander, Midland; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Private funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill cemetery, Lonaconing.

CHARLES WILLIAM MCCULLEY JR.
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Charles William McCulley Jr., 90, of Steubenville, Ohio, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at Trinity West Medical Center, Steubenville.
Born Oct. 2, 1906, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles W. McCulley Sr. and Mary Charlotte (Edwards) McCulley. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Howser) McCulley.

Mr. McCulley was a retired technician for Allied Chemical Company, Baltimore, and a former employee of the Tin Mill, Cumberland. He was a member of Our Lady of North American Martyrs Catholic Church, Steubenville, a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland, and a former member of the Cumberland Moose.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen Thorpe and husband John, Memphis, Tenn., and Della Mae McCulley, Conn.; two sisters, Mary Lewis, Steubenville, and Josephine DeBlasio, Bellevue, Wash.; six grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Christian wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

JUNA L. MCCUMBEE
RAWLINGS - Juna Lorraine McCumbee, 79, of Saint Vincent DePaul Nursing Center, Frostburg, formerly of Rawlings, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 8, 1917, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Nannie (Rubenthal) Yost. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wilson McCumbee.

Mrs. McCumbee was a retired cook at B & O Y, where she worked for 25 years. She also was a former cook for Lions Manor Nursing Home. She was a Methodist by faith. Mrs. McCumbee was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are one daughter, Deborah Lee Barbe, Rawlings; one granddaughter, Melanie Rai Barbe, Rawlings; a special friend, Tiffany Adkins, Rawlings; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stan G. Cardwell officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Yost, Gib Fox, Steve Bishop, Melvin Ganoe, Shawn O'Brien, and Clarence Emrick III.
