BLISS W. SPIKER
OAKLAND - Bliss William Spiker, 84, of Inwood, W.Va., formerly of Oakland, died on Tuesday, August 5, 1997, at Martinsburg City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 11, 1913, in Sang Run, he was a son of the late Walter S. Spiker and Martha (Lewis) Spiker.
Mr. Spiker was a retired carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche (Hare) Spiker; one daughter, Donna R. Simmons, Georgia; one sister, Mary Friend, Oakland; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great- grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Friend officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
PHYLLIS K. SPIKER
BARTON - Phyllis Kathron Spiker, 71, of Legislative Road, Barton, died Nov. 13, 1997, at home. Born at Midland on Aug. 10, 1926, she was a daughter of the late James Stuart and Kathron Veronica (Corrigan) Spiker. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Oliver Fazenbaker, Jr.
Mrs. Spiker was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Lee Yoak, Barton, Donna Bennett, Moscow, and Phyllis Paugh, Barton; brother, Charles Walter Spiker, Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and she was a second "Mother" to Charles Spiker Jr., Bonnie (Spiker) Schultz, Bobby Spiker, and Danny Spiker.
Friends will be received at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Sister Joan Maenner, OSF Pastoral Life director, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View cemetery, Moscow Mills.
EDYTHE E. SPOERL
LAVALE - Edythe Eisel (Jenkins) Spoerl, a sweet, kind, generous lady of LaVale, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 1997.
Born in Frostburg, Oct. 31, 1909, Mrs. Spoerl was the daughter of the late Philip and Dora (Eisel) Jenkins, of Frostburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Louis Spoerl Sr., on March 7, 1966; by her son, George Louis Spoerl Jr., on June 13, 1989; by her brother, Philip Jenkins; and by her sister, Martha "Dolly" Jenkins Gill.
Mrs. Spoerl was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church; and a former member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Women's Golf Association of the Cumberland Country Club, Mother's Club, and the Women's Civic Club. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge in several bridge clubs.
She is survived by her son, John Philip Spoerl, McHenry; three grandchildren; and a favorite friend and cousin, Martha Downey, Towson.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Fred Timbrook Sr., Paul George, Lee S. Wilson, Scott Rodeheaver, Bob Lloyd, John F. Workmeister Jr., Charles Schelble Jr. and Nathan Wilson.

OAKLAND - Eleanor J. Spore, 75, of Woodland Way, Swanton, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the St. John's Episcopal Church, 5234 Maryland Highway, Deer Park, on Monday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
MARY ELLEN STAGGS
WESTERNPORT - Mary Ellen Staggs, 92, of 22301 Westernport Rd., S.W., Westernport, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born July 27, 1905, at Laureldale, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Lee (Parker) Tephabock. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Myrle E. "Bob" Staggs on June 27, 1988.
Mrs. Staggs was Methodist by faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Staggs, Westernport; two sisters, Lela Parker, Petersburg, W.Va., and Lillian Rexrode, Maysville, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Bonnie Barts, Richmond, Va., and Sue Turner, New Creek, W.Va.; one great-granddaughter, Tammy Sue Turner, New Creek.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at the Cabin Run cemetery, Keyser, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Heath officiating. Interment will follow.
MARY D. "DOE" STAKEM
FROSTBURG - Mary D. "Doe" Stakem, 75, formerly of 5 Park Lane, Frostburg, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Lonaconing.
Miss Stakem was retired from Sacred Heart Hospital, having served over 40 years as a switchboard operator, and she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving family members are Sam LaManna and wife, Darlene; Mary Margaret Farrell and husband, Richard, all of Frostburg; and Susan Geatz and husband, George, Cumberland.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Parish cemetery, Lonaconing.
Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus Council #1442, Frostburg.
LAURA L. STALNAKER
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Laura L. Stalnaker, 93, of Austintown, formerly of Elk Garden, W.Va., died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at her residence.
Born April 29, 1904, in Masontown, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Clifton and Anna (Simmons) Reese. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Anchor W. Stalnaker; and one son, Carl E. Stalnaker.
Surviving are one daughter, Gloria McCabe, with whom she made her home in Austintown; one sister, Vesta Bolyard, Morgantown, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted at the IOOF cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va., on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.
Interment will follow.

NORVAL F. STANLEY
LAVALE - Norval Floyd Stanley, 65, of 10112 Stanley Lane, NW, LaVale, died suddenly on Christmas morning at his residence.
Born March 5, 1932, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Clarence K. and Clara (Frey) Stanley. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice G. Steward, in 1970.
Mr. Stanley received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from West Virginia University. He retired as a chemical engineer from ABL in 1989 after nearly 30 years of service.
Mr. Stanley was an active member of the LaVale United Methodist Church for many years and served as an usher for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the chemical corps.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane (McDonald) Stanley, one daughter, Lisa Stanley Myers and husband Kevin, two sons, John C. Stanley and wife Lori, and James N. Stanley, all of LaVale; four grandchildren, Jordan and Ian Stanley, and Kinsley and Kevin Myers, all of LaVale; three sisters, Mary V. Mosser, Keyser, W.Va., Rosalie Oliver, Cresco, Pa., and Marlene S. Heeter, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers, Owen R. Stanley, Glenville, W.Va., Robert C. Stanley, Keyser, and Kennard L. Stanley, Nebraska.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.
The family requests that memorials be made to the LaVale United Methodist Church, National Highway and N. Woodlawn Avenue, LaVale, MD 21502; LaVale Rescue Squad, 977 National Highway, LaVale, MD 21502; the American Heart Association, the Narrows, Cumberland, MD 21502; or a charity of choice.
Mr. Stanley was and will continue to be a blessing to all who knew him.
