WILLIAM SUMMEY, SR.
LONACONING - William John Summey, Sr., 81, of 215 Teaberry Ridge Road, Lonaconing, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at his residence.
Born March 31, 1916, in Brevard, N.C., he was the son of the late Oscar and Nora (Higgins) Summey. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Marie A. (Palmer) Summey; and two brothers, J.B. and Carl Summey, both of Brevard.

Mr. Summey was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the DAV. He was a retired maintenance man for the state of Maryland.

Survivors include a son, William J. Summey, Jr., and wife, Shirley, Montreat, N.C.; a daughter, Sharon M. Pollard and husband, Robert, Avilton; two brothers, Van and Roy Summey, both of Brevard; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at Loring-Byers Funeral Chapel, Randallstown, with the Rev. Lou Clelland officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to American Heart Association.

Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, was in charge of local arrangements.

AUGUSTA L. SUTTON
FROSTBURG - Augusta L. Sutton, 73, of 10224 New Hope Road NW, Frostburg, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 10, 1924, in Salisbury, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Goldeen (Dishong) Walker. She also was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mrs. Sutton was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Frostburg.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Claude S. Sutton; two sons, Robert Sutton and wife Mary, Aurora, Colo., and David Sutton and wife Delia, Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Mitchell and husband William, Somerset, Pa., and Rita Hay and husband Nevin, Rockwood, Pa.; one brother, Herman Walker, Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Emma Jane Popovich and Martha Nagle, both of Riverside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Douglas Gonzales officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

ANNABELLE SWANN
WESTERNPORT - Annabelle Swann, 87, of 125 McKinley St., Westernport, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Swann, in 1961.

Mrs. Swann was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education having worked at the Bruce High School Cafeteria. She was a Presbyterian by faith and a member of the Westernport Homemakers.

Surviving are one son, James Swann and wife Debora, Westernport; and five grandchildren, James Swann Jr., Tawnya Swann, Crystal Belle Swann, Brandy Nicole Swann, and Thomas Charles Swann.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steffan Carr officiating.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery.

WALTER A. "BUZZ" SWAUGER
GRANTSVILLE- Walter A. "Buzz" Swauger, 69, of 115 Miller St., Grantsville, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Aug. 15, 1928, in New Germany, he was a son of the late Leland and Blanche (Layman) Swauger.

Mr. Swauger was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He retired after 39â years of service as a tire builder for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He also served as a parole officer for the State of Maryland's DUI program for five years. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a past commander of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Jean L. (Elliot) Swauger; a son, Michael C. Swauger, Alexandria, Va.; a step-son, Gerald E. Beachy, Grantsville; a daughter, Karolyn D. St. Clair, Crofton; three brothers, Leland J. Swauger, Sears Mich., James E. Swauger, LaVale, C. Thomas Swauger, Bowie; a sister, Marjorie Mangus, Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer S. Knauff, Sean E. Beachy, Carly and Dirk Bell.

Services will be conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Earl Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.

Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.

PAUL W. SWICK SR.
CUMBERLAND - Paul W. Swick Sr., 73, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at his residence.
Born July 11, 1924, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late John W. and Gladys (Cornell) Swick. He also was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dinah (Kaopua) Swick.

Mr. Swick was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Pacific theater during World War II. He retired as a welder from the B&O; Railroad. As a minister, he was affiliated with the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. He was responsible for the building of the Full Gospel Church on Eastern Avenue, Cumberland. He and his wife, Dinah, pioneered the Pentecostal churches in Springfield, W.Va., and he ministered in numerous churches throughout West Virginia.

Surviving are four daughters, Yvonne Cover and husband Glenn, Topeka, Kan., Shirlenne Linn and husband Jim, Charlotte Hall, Md., Shirlanne Evans, Cumberland, and Emelia L. "Amy" Myers and husband Clide, Cumberland; one son, Paul W. Swick Jr., Cumberland; one sister, Betty Friend and husband Don, Mountain Lake Park; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Clifton Swick, Marshall Swick, Don Friend, Steve Friend, Randy Hartley, and Jason Twigg.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

NONDIS P. SABERS
CUMBERLAND - Nondis P. Sabers, 84, of Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Shriver Avenue, died Monday, April 7, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 19, 1913, in Pekin, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Bridget (Fitzpatrick) Miller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew M. Sabers; one son, Franklin J. Bishop; one grandson, William "Rusty" Kunis; and two brothers, William and Raymond Miller.

Mrs. Sabers was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Surviving are five sons, John G. Kunis and wife Frances, Cumberland, William J. Kunis and wife Myrna, Cumberland, Carmen L. Bishop, Joseph M. Bishop and wife Millie, Cumberland, Terry A. Sabers and wife Alice, Ridgeley; one daughter, Dolores D. Dick and husband Bill, Fort Ashby; daughter-in-law Margaret J. Bishop, Cumberland; three sisters, Thelma McKenzie and husband Roy, Gilmore, Delores Arn-old, Denver, Colo., and Maxine Murphy, Westernport; one brother, Rowe Miller and wife Virginia, Vale Summit; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Frank J. Brauer as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jackie Kunis, Ronald Kunis, Timothy Kunis, Todd Sabers, Michael Sabers, Joey Bishop and Randy Bishop.

LEONA J. SAVAGE
ACCIDENT - Leona Jane Savage, 83, of 101 Town View Drive, Accident, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born April 2, 1914, in Altamont, she was the daughter of the late Charles Isaac and Carrie May (Lee) Wright. She also was preceded in death by her husband James Arthur Savage, in 1961; and one son, Paul W. Savage, in 1996.

Mrs. Savage was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and a former member of the Livingstone Church of the Brethren, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Quilters.

Surviving are three granddaughters, Marilyn Savage, Paula Davis and Sherry Trail, all of Cumberland; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Wright, McHenry, and Lyle Wright, Cumberland; and three sisters, Grace Bateman, Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, Geraldine Rodeheaver, Friendsville, and Kitty Savage, McHenry.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren or to the Livingstone Church of the Brethren.
