WINIFRED D. SAYLOR
FROSTBURG - Winifred D. Saylor, 83, of 136 Ormond St., Frostburg, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 21, 1914, at Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Johnson) Davis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William Saylor; one brother, William Davis; five sisters, Lucille Davis Buchanan, Gwendolyn Davis Durst, Ethelyn Davis and Muriel Davis McNeil.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Frostburg. She was a graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College and she taught for 30 years in Allegany County, ending her teaching career at Eckhart Elementary School where she taught second grade.

Surviving are one sister, Gertrude Carder, Shaft; two nephews, William Carder and wife Madlyn, Berlin, Md., and Newton Carskadon and wife Susan, Fairfax, Va.; two nieces, Deidre Ritchie, Frostburg, and Kathy Hitchins and husband Gary, Frostburg; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

At Mrs. Saylor's request, her body was donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland.

There will be no visitation.

Donations in her honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Frostburg or to the donor's charity of choice.

ROBERT WILSON SCELL
CUMBERLAND - Robert W. Scell, 76, of Maryland Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was born May 21, 1921, in Wellersburg, Pa., the son of the late Howard F. and Anna Elizabeth (Klink) Scell. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. (Folk) Scell in 1993.

Mr. Scell was a retired Roofer.

He served with the U.S. Army in World War II and with the U.S. Navy in Korea.

He was a member of Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion, a member of Henry Hart Post #1411 V.F.W., and was a member of F.O.E. Aerie #245.

Mr. Scell is survived by three sons, David W. Scell and Clyde C. Scell, Cumberland, and Raymond A. Scell, Woodbridge, Va.; one daughter, Joy I. Scell, Cumberland; two brothers, Albert

Hartge, Baden, Pa., and Melvin Tressler, Falcha, Alaska; one sister, Hilda Colflesh, Ambridge, Pa.; three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at 2:30 p.m. at the Veterans Chapel at Rocky Gap with Post 13 Chaplain Charles Griffith officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

LOUIS E. SCHADT SR.
CUMBERLAND - Louis Edward "Sonny" Schadt Sr., 64, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1933, in Cumberland, he was the son of Ida Leota (Clark) Schadt, Cumberland, and the late Louis L. Schadt.

Mr. Schadt was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271, East Gate Lodge 216 AF&AM;, and a lifetime member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club. Mr. Schadt was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1951.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lois J. (Fisher) Schadt, Cumberland; a son, Louis E. "Les" Schadt Jr., Cumberland; three daughters, Linda K. Oppedal, Rolland, Iowa, Karen A. Whitener, Marquand, Miss., and Kimberly S. Howard, Stephens City, Va.; a brother, Homer F. Schadt, Cumberland; a sister Evelyn Burnham, Cumberland; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Louis Schadt III, Greg Whitener, Doug Whitener, Patrick Whitener, Justin Crabtree, and Steve Nixon.

JOSEPH R. SCHAIDT
CUMBERLAND - Joseph Robert Schaidt, 67, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 7, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of Ethel (Bishop) Schaidt, Cumberland, and the late Raymond Schaidt. He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Delores (Riggleman) Schaidt; and one son.

Mr. Schaidt was retired from the City of Cumberland Water Department after 23 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.

In addition to his mother, surviving are five daughters, Gerry Fran Drumheller, Marianne Rodarmel, both of Broadway, Va.; Grace Ellen Lewis, Joette Melinda Phillips, both of Bergton, Va.; and Lisbeth Kate Holt, Saratoga, Wyo.; one son, Toby Carlton Schaidt, King George, Va.; two sisters, Frances James, Cumberland, and Geraldine Gilmore, Duncanville, Texas; his former wife, Mary Jean (Grose) Schaidt; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a step-daughter, Helen Riggleman Harvey, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Diane Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

MABEL LEONA SCHAIDT
LONACONING - Mabel Leona Wilt Schaidt, 79, of 21 Front St., Lonaconing, died Saturday, May 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, after being admitted on Mother's Day.
Born June 24, 1917, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Aden and Lula (Pritts) Wilt.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, William Gustave Schaidt Sr.; and one son, William Gustave Schaidt Jr., April 30, 1997.

Mrs. Schaidt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing. She was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter No. 10 O.E.S., Lonaconing, and a member of the AARP.

Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Blair and husband Stuart, Lonaconing; one daughter-in-law,

Jeanne Schaidt, Lonaconing; four grandchildren, Catherine Blair, William Gustave Schaidt III, Arthur Blair, and Jennie Blair; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Jacob Schaidt, Coty Warren Blair and William Garrett Schaidt; one sister, Blanche McDonald and husband Donald, Barton; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Martha Washington Chapter No. 10 O.E.S. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Vernon Gauthier officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Lonaconing.

MORTIMER CARR SCHAIDT JR.
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Mortimer Carr Schaidt Jr., 83, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at his residence in Delray Beach. He had resided in Delray Beach since 1983.
Born July 25, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Mortimer Carr Schaidt Sr. and Pearl Fanny (Durette) Schaidt. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Parks) Schaidt; and one sister, Phyllis (Schaidt) Curtis.

Mr. Schaidt was a veteran of World War II having service in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and president of Maryland Motor Lines. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Schaidt had served on the board of directors of First National Bank, Cumberland Country Club, Old German Brewery, Queen City Brewery, and the Cumberland Brewery, all in Cumberland, and Pine Tree Golf Club, Boynton Beach; a member of the Traffic Club and the Kiwanis Club, Cumberland.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia (Schaidt) Nadeau and husband, Dr. Oliver Nadeau, Cumberland; one brother, William F. Schaidt, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Virginia Lee Fairall, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Melisa Paye Mose and husband, Jeffrey, Baltimore, Md., Gregory P. Paye, Boston, Mass., and Claire S. Nadeau, Roanoke, Va.; and caring friends, Kitty Deneen, Boynton Beach; and Ed and Pauli George, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Paye, Jeffrey Mose, Karl Bachman, Glenn Zembower, Fred Stitcher, and Gerald Riggleman.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood Streets, Cumberland, MD 21502.
