CLIFFORD DARRELL "GIG" WHITE
OAKLAND - Clifford Darrell "Gig" White died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Dennett Road Manor, Oakland.
Born Jan. 24, 1915, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was the son of the late Forester and Katherine (Dumire) White.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jane (Mason) White; and by one brother, Adair F. White.
Mr. White was a heavy equipment operator and a 30-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy J. Morris and husband, Don, Vermilion, Ohio, and Carolyn S. Cosner and husband, Del, Terra Alta; one step-daughter, JoAnn Ramsey, Baltimore; four grandchildren; a sister, Eileen White Russell, Hollidaysburg, Pa.; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren.
At Mr. White's request, his body has been donated to West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta. Friends may call at 6:30 p.m. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Norvell Robertson and the Rev. S.D. Sawyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
GLEN W. WHITE
OAKLAND - Glen W. White, 82, of Oakland, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Cuppett-Weekes Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Aug. 31, 1914, in Deer Park, he was a son of the late Jessie W. White and Emma (Harvey) White. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Vicie L. White, in 1994.
Mr. White was a retired roads worker, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Proctor Kildow Post 71 American Legion, and VFW Post 10077.
Surviving are one son, James Strawser, Stevensville; two daughters, Shirley Ambroge, Fairfax, Va., and Patricia Horn, Harrison, Tenn.; one brother, Calvin White, Oakland; three sisters, Jane Howell, Cresaptown, Halie O'Brien, Canton, Ohio, and Mabel McCrobie, Massillon, Ohio; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be Eglon cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of local veteran's organizations.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Garrett County.
RALPH WHITE
CUMBERLAND - Ralph "Jack" White, 81, of Pea Vine Run Road, Cumberland, died Thursday, June 5, 1997.
Born August 11, 1915, in Pearisburg, Va., he was the son of the late Joe and Maggie (Shouse) White. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice White, on July 11, 1994; a daughter, Barbara Elizabeth White; and a brother Woodrow White.
Surviving are four children, Betty Crotty and husband Bob, Collinsville, Va., Jane Hudson and husband Jerry, Port Deposit, Charles White and wife Carol, Delanco, N.J., and Anna Lee Graham and husband Raymond, Valley Road, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Calvin White and wife Natalie, Woodbridge, Va.; a sister Viola Baker, Weirton, W.Va.; and a devoted friend, Richard Allman, Rocky Gap Road, Cumberland.
"Jack", a retired construction worker, was a member of Laborers Local 616. He was a former employee of George F. Hazelwood and Phoenix Construction Companies. He was a member of the Bedford Road Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Baltimore Avenue, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Michael officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Bedford Road, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be James Cosgrove Sr., James "Jimmy" Cosgrove Jr., Paul Dicken, Ed George, C.G. Wilson, and Mace Sibley.
MARGARET D. WHITEHEAD-STEPPE
CUMBERLAND - Margaret D. Whitehead-Steppe, 88, of Linda and Steve Snoots Personal Care Home, Sunshine Drive, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice.
Born Jan. 29, 1909, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late M.J. and Minnie (Gooding) Malamphy. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence E. Whitehead, in 1978, and her second husband, Louis W. Steppe; one son, Robert E. Whitehead; five brothers, Tom, Michael, George, Mark, and Ormond Malamphy; and five sisters, Ruth Aaron, Dorothy Johnston, Eleanor Fulton, Mary and Grace Malamphy.
Mrs. Steppe was retired from the Board of Education in Maple Heights, Ohio. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret A. Wolfe and husband Edward, Cumberland; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Whitehead, Texas; four grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
A Christian wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m.
The family requests donations be made to the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit.
EMMA F. WHITEMAN
CUMBERLAND - Emma F. Whiteman, 90, formerly of Locust Grove, Cumberland, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, where she had been ill for some time.
She was born July 28, 1907, in Moorefield, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ray M. Whiteman, who died March 10, 1969. Also preceding her in death were three sons, Floyd, Carl, and Dane; and one daughter, Mildred Graves.
She was a member of the Grace Memorial Community Church, Seton Drive, Cumberland.
Surviving are two sons, Maurice D. Whiteman and wife, Bettie, Locust Grove, Ralph J. Whiteman and special friend, Martha Bishop, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one daughter, June E. Diehl and husband, Howard, Cresaptown; one sister, Rosia Hains, Cumberland; one brother Jesse E. Arnold and wife, Vada, Jamestown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold McClay, Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in Indian Mound cemetery, Romney, W.Va.

VERNON R. WHITEMAN
GILMORE - Vernon Roy Whiteman, 72, of Elk Lick Road, Frostburg, died Friday, August 8, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born January 9, 1925, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late James A. and Ruth (Goodwin) Whiteman. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine B. (Blocher) Whiteman.
Mr. Whiteman retired from the Finishing Department of Westvaco after 41 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Rosalie (Likens) Llewellyn Whiteman; one son, Gene Ray House and wife Sandy, Lonaconing; two daughters, Deborah K. Smith and husband Thomas, Vale Summit, and Robin L. Wiegand and husband James, Lonaconing; two stepsons, Dennis C. Llewellyn and wife Elizabeth, Hagerstown, and Terry Wayne Llewellyn and wife Agnes, Hagerstown; one brother, James Clifton Whiteman, Terrell, Texas; one uncle, William Whiteman and wife Katherine, Cresaptown; three aunts, Helen Broadwater, Lonaconing, Mary Morgan, Carlos, and Nellie Donald, Moscow; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Walker, Eddie Beeman, Stephen Walters, Joe Walters, Eddie Llewellyn and Phillip Beeman.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
