BETTY L. WHITFORD
HAGERSTOWN - Betty Louise Whitford, 70, of 807 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, shortly after arrival.
Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Koelker and Ada Marie (Layman) Koelker. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Jake" Koelker Sr.; and three sisters, Marie McKlinchey, Imojene Stiles and Doris May.
Surviving are one daughter, Betty Ann Taylor, with whom she resided; two brothers, Joseph H. Koelker and Robert W. Koelker, both of Cumberland; one sister, Sandra Crosten, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Michele Taylor and Renee Crissman; and three great-grandchildren, Teri Griffith, Nicole Manford and Timothy Stuby.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
The cremated remains will be interred in the Greenmount cemetery.
MADELINE M. WHITMAN
CUMBERLAND - Madeline Marcella Whitman, 84, of 220 Somerville Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born August 3, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Phillip G. Freeland and the late Sara A. (Messenger) Freeland. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Frederick Whitman, November, 1976; a daughter, Geradine Whitman, August, 1983; six brothers; and six sisters.
Mrs. Whitman was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and was very active in the Booth Towers Tenants Association.
Surviving are a niece, Dorothy Babcock, Cumberland; one sister, Isabelle G. Wilson, Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel officiating.
Interment will be in St. Luke's cemetery.
HELEN W. WICKARD
CUMBERLAND - Helen Wilhelmina Wickard, 86, of North Centre Street, Cumberland, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at her residence.
Born September 15, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John William and Bertha Minnie (Baer) Deter. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Wickard Sr., in 1954; a son, Bernard Wickard; and a daughter, Shirley Wickard.
Mrs. Wickard worked at the Celanese Corp. and as a waitress at Joe's Viaduct Restaurant for many years.
Surviving are five sons, Roy J. Wickard, Cumberland, Louis R. Wickard Sr., Cumberland, Charles Wickard, Va., Arthur C. Wickard Jr., Williamsport, Pa., and Harold E. Wickard, Calif.; two daughters, Marlene Virginia Lewis, Frostburg, and Ruth Catherine King, LaVale; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with Father Frank J. Brauer officiating.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
RICHARD F. WIEBRECHT
FROSTBURG - Richard F. Wiebrecht, 78, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of 120 Frost Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Lewis) Wiebrecht, in 1987; three brothers, Lawrence Wiebrecht, Charles Wiebrecht, and Raymond Wiebrecht; and one sister, Anna Chapman.
At Mr. Wiebrecht's request, his remains were cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
Inurnment will follow in the Eckhart cemetery.
MARY K. WILKINS
CUMBERLAND - Mary Katherine Wilkins, 80, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born April 1, 1917, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Bootman and Clara May (Barncord) Bootman.
She also was preceded in death by her first husband, John M. Hager; her second husband, Clovis Wilkins; three brothers; and two sisters.
She was Methodist by faith.
Mrs. Wilkins is survived by one son, James M. Hager and wife, Carol, Grosse Ile, Mich.; one grandson, Dennis Hager and wife, Brenda, Burlington, Conn.; two great-granddaughters, Madeline and Cassidy Hager, Burlington; three sisters, May Monahan, Cumberland, Evelyn Fleegle and husband, Leo, LaVale, and Grace Grimes, Centreville; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Adam Grim officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

MATTHEW WILLETTS
MIDLOTHIAN - Matthew Willetts, 78, of Midlothian, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at his residence.
Born Dec. 4, 1918, in Midlothian, he was the son of the late Frank and Julia (Skidmore) Willetts. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith V. Skidmore; and one daughter, Edie McLuckie.
Mr. Willetts was retired owner and operator of Willetts General Store and Midlothian Postmaster for 35 years. He attended the Trinity Assembly of God Church, Midlothian, was a member of Frostburg BPOE No. 470, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 348, Frostburg.
Surviving are one daughter, Julia Anderson and husband Richard, Houston, Texas; one brother, David Willetts, Frostburg; three sisters, Mabel Willetts, Silver Spring, Naomi Reed and husband the Rev. William, Charles Town, W.Va., Jane Creps and husband the Rev. Earl, Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Renee Broughton, Rosharon, Texas, Steven Anderson, St. Charles, Ill., Matthew Anderson and Andrew Anderson, both of Houston, Texas, Dr. Charles McLuckie, Frostburg, Christopher McLuckie, Woodbridge, Va., and Chantel McLuckie, Frostburg; and six great-grandchildren, Vanessa Broughton, Kelsey Anderson, Abbey McLuckie, William McLuckie II, Samuel McLuckie, and Brendan McLuckie.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jimmie Blair officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
The Frostburg Elks will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
ARLIE M. WILLIAMS
CUMBERLAND - Arlie Mae Williams, 86, of Washington St., Cumberland, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Keller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Williams; two brothers, Wallace B. Keller and Phillip E. Keller; and two sisters, Saphorah Keller and Martha Jane Keller.
Mrs. Williams was the owner of the former Arlie's Beauty Salon. She was a member of McKinley Chapter 12, Order of the Eastern Star; Re Temple, Daughters of the Nile; and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Terry E. Williams; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 21, with the time and place to be announced.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Adams, John Bache, Billy Bruck, Oliver Evans, Grover Hott and Wallace Ullery.
