FRANCIS S. WHARTON
GRAHAMTOWN - Francis S. "Wharty" Wharton, 74, of Grahamtown, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late James E. and Mary Florence (Blank) Wharton.
Mr. Wharton was a retired truck driver for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. He also was a member of Farrady Post No. 24 American Legion, Frostburg, Old Rail Post No. 6025 VFW, Mount Savage, and the Disabled American Veterans Fort Washington Chapter No. 2, Cumberland.
Surviving are his wife, M. Evelyn (Hausrath) Wharton, Grahamtown; one son, F. Wayne Wharton and wife Lanna, Sykesville; two sisters, Dorothy Winner, Mount Savage, and Donna Wharton, Parump, Nev.; four grandchildren, Stacey Yaglenski, Germantown, Edward Wharton, Mount Airy, and Jeffrey and Terri Beth Wharton, both of Sykesville; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Wharton, both of Mount Airy, and Michael and Andrew Yaglenski, both of Germantown.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Farrady Post No. 24 American Legion Honor Guard will accord military honors at graveside.
Pallbearers will be Edward Wharton, Jeffrey Wharton, John Winn, Richard Gomer, Austin Green, and John Winebrenner.
HELEN M. WHETSTONE
FOREST HILL - Friday, February 21, Helen Mildred (Harvey) Whetstone, 84, embarked on a journey from this world to a sphere of light and peace for a joyful reunion with beloved parents, brothers and sisters.
Helen came to this world in Midlothian on 27 June 1912 as a daughter of Helen (Conrad) Harvey, a former school teacher, and Anthony Harvey, a former Allegany County Sheriff and Frostburg Magistrate.
From 1932 until 1979 Helen was married
to Leslie L. "Tuck" Whetstone. She retired October 1974 as Dietary Supervisor for the State Hospital in Catonsville.
Helen leaves three children: Doris Whetstone Bruner and husband Joe of Cumberland, Patricia Whetstone Michaels and husband Tom of Edgewood, and "Larry" Dale Whetstone and wife Carla of Towson; also two stepdaughters: Margaret Whetstone Jackson and Mary Whetstone Thomas of Frostburg.
She also leaves a sister and a brother, Margaret Harvey Jones of Frostburg Village Nursing Home and John P. Harvey of Washington, Pa. Also 17 grandchildren, JoLynn, Daniel, Cindy, Kathy, Melinda and Dallas of daughter Doris; and Tonya, Tommy, Tony, Patty Sue, Ricky and Melissa of daughter Pat and Debra, Larry, Patty, Diane and Carla of son Larry. Also five step-grandchildren: Keith, Gail, Mark, Paula and Brian; and 36 great-grandchildren and 27 step-great-grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Helen in this journey were five sisters and two brothers: Mary Harvey Nooft, Leroy Harvey, William Harvey, Urith Odell Harvey, Eloise Harvey Davis, Elva Harvey Hamilton, and Gertrude Harvey Hersl. Also two grandsons: Neno C. Michaels and R. Alan Whetstone.
The George-Upchurch Funeral Home, Greene Street, Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at noon with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park.
JULIA G. YOKUM
CRESAPTOWN - Julia G. Yokum, 93, formerly of Cresaptown, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 18, 1904, in Midland, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Ella (Garlitz) McGowen. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Riley H. Yokum; one sister, Mary E. McGowen; and three brothers, Bernard T., Michael D., and Leon J. McGowen.
Mrs. Yokum was the former co-owner of R.H. Yokum Grocery Store, Cresaptown.
Surviving are one daughter, Joan Collins and husband Tom, Charleston, W.Va.; one sister, Theresa Patton, Cresaptown; three grandchildren, Tom R. Collins, Atlanta, Ga., Susan Blandford, Lexington, Ky., and Dr. Nancy O'Brien, Ottumwa, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Fr. Regenald Russo O.F.M. Cap. as celebrant. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
A Christian Wake will be conducted on Monday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
RUTH E. YOST
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Ethel Yost, 60, of Yale Street, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 18, 1936, in Detmold, she was the daughter of Jean (Steele) Leake and the late Thomas Sidney Leake.
Mrs. Yost was a member of Beth Shan Assembly of God on Bedford Road. She retired from the Allegany County Board of Education as an assistant teacher of special education at Cash Valley School. She also taught at Virginia Avenue School and Beall Elementary School, Frostburg.
Surviving are her husband, John E. Yost Jr.; one son, Edward G. Yost and wife Patricia L. (Flynn) Yost, Layton, Utah; two grandchildren, Jennifer L. Yost and John E. Yost III, Layton, Utah; one brother, the Rev. James S. Leake and wife Rebecca, Monroeville, Pa.; two sisters, Margaret (Leake) Smith and husband, the Rev. Robert D. Smith, Hancock, and Louise (Leake) Younkin and husband the Rev. H. Allen Younkin, Wenonah, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Baltimore Avenue on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gregory Georg officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Beth Shan Assembly of God on Bedford Road, or to the Independent Dialysis Foundation on Frederick Street, Cumberland. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

EARL J. YOUNGBLOOD
WESTERNPORT - Earl Joseph Youngblood, 78, of 24432 Stoney Run Road, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Paw Paw, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ernest and Jessie Youngblood.
Mr. Youngblood was retired from Westvaco Corp. as a custodian in six and seven machine room.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Anna (Miller) Youngblood; one daughter, Helen Amann and husband Donald, Westernport; two brothers, Fred Youngblood, Winchester, Va., Ralph Youngblood, Capon Bridge, W.Va.; five sisters, Vada McDonald, Gore, W.Va., Carolyn Peer, Augusta, W.Va., Janet Mowbray, Yvonne Clark, and Clara Jane Youngblood, all of Capon Bridge, W.Va; two grandchildren, Donald Amann and wife Diane, Rawlings, and Steven Amann and wife Diane, Westernport.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Morris officiating.
Interment will be in Miller cemetery, Stoney Run.
MABEL M. YUTZY
OAKLAND - Mabel Maxine Yutzy, 90, of Oakland, died Sunday, July 6, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 18, 1906, in Selbysport, she was a daughter of the late James B. Frantz and Emma (Frazee) Frantz. She also was preceded in death by her husband, G. Harold Yutzy, in 1966.
Mrs. Yutzy was a member of the Selbysport United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia L. Steyer, Oakland, and Sue Colaw, Bridgewater, Va.; one brother, James E. Frantz, McHenry; four sisters, Mary Myers, Portsmouth, Ohio, Helen Sausman and Madeline Thomas, both of Friendsville, and Joyce Skidmore, Oakland; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Paige, McHenry; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James F. Remley officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
