Gadsby, Virginia J.

Virginia J. Gadsby, 77, of Petersburg, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center. A native of Enfield, NC she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Ethel Eliza Hux Jackson. Mrs. Gadsby was a member of Golden Harvest Ministries.

She is survived by her husband: Jack R. Gadsby, Sr., two sons; Jack R. Gadsby, Jr. of Chesterfield and George G. Gadsby of Petersburg, three daughters and sons-in-law; Brenda Zucchi and husband Robert of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Jacqueline G. Gentry and husband Marvin Scott of Dinwiddie, Joyce Renee Gould and husband George Phillip, Jr. of Dinwiddie, two granddaughters; Christina R. Felice and Traci F. Solomen, one great-granddaughter; Sabrina Solomen, all three of NJ., two brothers; Benjamin T. Jackson and Edward Ray Jackson, three sisters; Dorothy Martin, Evelyn L. Kelley and Lorena Kirkland and numerous other relatives.

A procession will leave the funeral home 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 29, 2001, . for a 10:30 A.M. service at the mausoleum in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The Reverend Morgan Lunsford will officiate. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening August, 28, 2001 from 7 until 8:30 P.M. at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

Galbus, Carol Kathleen

Carol Kathleen Galbus, 66, of Salisbury, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Mary Walsh Hilger.

Mrs. Galbus worked at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care for 24 years. She graduated from nursing school in 1976 and spent her entire career caring for the elderly.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Joseph Galbus of Salisbury; four children and their spouses: Ray and Carolyn Kline of Charlottesville, VA, Cathy Zokan of Milwaukee, WI, J. Timothy 'Timmy' Kline of Salisbury, and Michael and Crystal Galbus of Middletown, DE; seven grandchildren: Rachel, Kara Anne, and Cassidy Kline, Tara Haushalter, Jackie Zokan, Lauren Zokan, and Connor Galbus; three sisters: Mary Agnes 'Aggie' Richards and Veronica 'Vonnie' Bree both of Milwaukee, WI, and Margaret 'Peggy' Schneider of Menomonee Falls, WI; brother, Tom Hilger of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John Kline, and nine brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, May 16, 2002 at 10:30 AM. at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Father Joe Kandathiparampil will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Holly Center, PO Box 2358, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Mace, Paul E.

Paul E. Mace, 87, of Taylors Island, passed away at the Pines Center in Easton on Friday morning, October 12, 2001.

He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1914, the son of the late William George and Eliza Williams Mace. He was raised in the Harrisburg - York area and graduated from high school in York. He was married to the former Helen Corder on Dec. 6, 1941. Mr. Mace was a vet-eran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from October of 1942 through January of 1946. He was a radio operator and served in North Africa and in the China - Burma - India theater of operations. He later served for four years in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

As a young man he worked as a machinist in several silk mills in York and Harrisburg and in 1947 the Mace family moved to Taylors Island. He worked for the Maryland Marine Police and served as postmaster at Taylors Island for 26 years, retiring in February of 1976. He and his wife enjoyed traveling.

He was a Life member of V.F.W. and American Legion posts in Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, John J. Corder III of Witchita Falls, TX and Paul A. Mace of Taylors Island, five grandchildren, John Charles Corder, Jeffrey Corder, Sandra Corder, D'Lyn Kort and Jennifer Kort, two great-grandchildren Haley and Tayler, one sister Naomi Shenberger of York, PA and one niece and one nephew. He is preceded in death by one sister Ruth Parks.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Chapel of the Maryland Veterans Cemetery on Tues-day morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will take place in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. Honors will be provided by the Honors Unit of the Maryland National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 277, Taylors Island, MD 21669.

Kane, Patrick J.

Patrick J. Kane, of Clayton, formerly of Laurel, MD and Riverdale, MD, passed away on Sunday June 8, 2008 at his daughter's home with his family by his side. He was 85.

He was born in Washington, DC, the son of the late Frank and Ellen Kane.

Mr. Kane was raised in the Georgetown section of Washington, and was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving a tour of duty in Italy.

He was a thirty-year civil service employee serving as an inspector for the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1973.

Mr. Kane was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Theophane "Teddy" Kane.

He is survived by a daughter Sharon Purdy and her husband William, of Clayton; four grandchildren, Neil Little and his wife Jaime; Jonathan Purdy and his wife Melody; Jeffrey Purdy; Donald Purdy; and several nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to everyone at Delaware Hospice.

Services and interment will be privately held at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Griswold Special Care, 1915 Kirkwood Hwy., Newark, DE 19711.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

FREDERICK C. KAHL

Frederick Charles Kahl, age 84, of Baltimore Farm in the Lloyds area of Cambridge, MD, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, MD.

'Freddie', as he was known, was born on November 16, 1920 in Baltimore County, Maryland. He was the son of the late Charles G. Kahl and Nellie Curtain Kahl.

A U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II in the Aleutians Islands, Eastern Mandates and Southern Philippines, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician Fourth Grade from the Battery C, 31st Field Artillery Battalion.

Freddie was a bus contractor for the Dorchester County Schools and had the same route that his father had for over fifty years. He was a life long resident of Baltimore Farm even after from when the Taylor's purchased the farm from him. He farmed for fifty years and when he retired, he was a caretaker of Quail Lane Farm, Morris Neck, Cambridge, MD.

Being very much a part of the Taylor family, he considered George and Karen's sons Sam and John his grandsons.

Freddie enjoyed cutting grass, crabbing, tending to his chickens and gardens. He also liked to go to auction sales.

Surviving is his extended family George and Karen Taylor with whom he lived and worked for numerous years on the farm, their sons Sam Taylor and his girlfriend Theresa of East New Market, MD, John Taylor and his wife Alison of Federalsburg, MD, a sister Gertrude Bill of Westminster, MD, several nieces, nephews and his faithful friend Gator, his dog.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters Dorothy Findling, Evelyn Hall and a brother William Kahl.

A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with The Rev. Don A. Schell officiating at the service. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Radcliffe Wheatley, Richie Saunders, Billy Beckwith, James David Wheatley, Jr., Billy Wheatley and Kevin Bradley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Freddie's memory to the church or charity of one's choice.

Gallahan, Evelyn E.

Evelyn Gallahan, owner of local nursing home

A funeral for Evelyn E. Gallahan, 98, of Fredericksburg will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Kent Rahm will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The Order of Eastern Star 29 will conduct a memorial service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Gallahan, owner and administrator of Hughes Home on Caroline Street, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at her home.

She came to Fredericksburg in 1928 from Brooklyn, N.Y., with her husband, the late J.R. Stott.

She had worked at the Sylvania Plant and in the contracting business with her second husband, the late John Gallahan.

In 1957 she purchased Hughes Home for Adults and was administrator of the home until 1988, when she retired at the age of 85.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Mayflower Society and Jamestown Society Chapters.

She enjoyed traveling and had visited Europe and Australia many times.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Stott Everett of Maryland and Carol Gallahan Walker of Colorado; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Evelyn Stott Grimes.
