Nelson, Joyce Fay

JOYCE FAY NELSON, 60, of Crisfield, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.

Born September 2, 1949 in Crisfield, she was a daughter of Alverta L. Swift Townsend of Crisfield and the late Wayne S. Townsend. Her husband, Lorin Nelson died in 1992.

She was a faithful member of Somerset Free Methodist Church in Crisfield where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved holding yard sales in the parking lot of Fresh Pride, going to McDonalds, playing Dominos, and watching The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune on television. She was a very sweet person who was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her mother, Alverta Townsend; her brother, Wayne W. Townsend and his wife Pat; her sister, Elizabeth "Pixie" Smith and her husband Tommy; five nephews, Michael Townsend and his wife Sandy, Stephen, Jeremy and Joshua Townsend and Devin Marshall; two great-nephews, Zachary and Jacob Townsend; all of Crisfield; and a great-niece, Alyssa Townsend of California.

Funeral services officiated by The Rev. Sam Horner will be Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to a favorite charity.

Lane, Eugene Patrick

EUGENE PATRICK LANE, 43, of Crisfield and formerly of Baltimore, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield.

Born in Baltimore on April 12, 1966, he was a son of the late Leroy F. Lane, Sr. and Clara Rahl Lane. He had been making his home in Crisfield for the past six years.

He was a land surveyor.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Lee Lane of Marion Station; his sister, Judy Lee Lane (Greg Bethard) of Marion Station; two brothers, Thomas William Lane (Sheri Kelso) of Harford County and Leroy F. Lane, Jr. (Barbara A. Lane); nieces and nephews, Steve and Allison Raab and their daughter, Alliana, Joe Raab, Orrie Dowden, Tessie Dowden and daughter Haylee, Cody Dowden, Brady Dowden, Dallas Dowden, Christine Lane and daughter Hayden, Christopher and Tina Schmidt, Terry Schmidt, Jennifer Schmidt and Sean Schmidt; a special friend, Betty Farina of Crisfield; several uncles; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday evening, March 29, 2010 at 7 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call from 5-7PM. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate.

Graveside services and interment will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 2 PM at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens in Baltimore.

Memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 406, Crisfield, Maryland 21817 or to the Somerset County Health Department Addictions Treatment Program, 7920 Crisfield Highway, Westover, MD 21871.

Doss, Leonard M. "Lenny"

Leonard Mason "Lenny" Doss, 40, of Marion, Maryland and formerly of Pennsylvania and Delaware, died suddenly Friday, May 21, 2010 from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania on May 24, 1969, he was a son of Margaret Ellen Bay Lutz of Saint Clair, Pennsylvania and the late Robert Lee Doss.

He was a truck driver for Southern Connection Seafood in Crisfield where he had been employed for the past six years.

Lenny enjoyed plastic canvas needlepoint crafts, puzzles, and Chinese buffet. He also had a great love for animals; they were his "babies". He had a big heart of gold, and was loved by everyone he met.

A devoted and loving husband, son, brother, and uncle, Lenny is survived by his wife of 10 years, Norma Fowler Doss of Marion; his mother, Margaret Ellen Bay Lutz of Saint Clair; his sister, Robin Staab and her husband Kenny of Marion; two brothers, Steven Waddell and his wife Susan of Saint Clair and Bobby Lee Doss of Bel Air, MD; his step-sister, Connie Slater of Delaware; his nieces and nephews, Tina McNulty, Stephanie Benedict, Jeffery Carl, Anna Doss, Joey Doss, Linda White, Monica Wegt, Hans Wegt, Brian Burke and Brandon Staab; and many special great-nieces and nephews.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Linda Mildred Waddell, Ruby Vera Lake Martin, and William Walker Waddell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 5 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call two hours prior. The Rev. Bonnie Martin will officiate. Interment will be Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2 PM at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Madonna, Maryland.

Lenny's biggest concern was for his wife to be taken care of. Please send donations in lieu of flowers to the Lenny Doss Memorial Trust, c/o Hebron Savings Bank, 57 Richardson Avenue, Crisfield, MD 21817.

Bentley, Ronnie Wayne

Navy

RONNIE WAYNE BENTLEY, 70, of Crisfield, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his home.

Born in Tazewell, Virginia on May 14, 1940, he was a son of the late Robert E. Bentley, Sr. and Della Bishop Bentley.

A truck driver and a US Navy veteran, he was formerly of Pasadena, Maryland where he lived for 33 years before his retirement. He had been making his home in Crisfield since March of 2009. He enjoyed living in a small town. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara L. Hipsley Bentley of Crisfield; his son, Michael A. Bentley and his wife Samantha of Crisfield; four grandchildren, Andrew Bentley and his wife Mindy, Stephen Bentley, Jenna Bentley and Steven Arnold; his siblings, Delphia Bolen and her husband Theodore "Bunk" of Georgia and Robert E. Bentley, Jr. of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James O. Bentley.

Following cremation, memorial services were private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Benton, Audrey Jeanette

AUDREY JEANETTE DANIELS BENTON, 88, of Wenona, Maryland, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Wanda, and son-in-law, Clifton, surrounded by her family.

Born August 31, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Frank B. Daniels and Sarah Jeanette Webster Daniels.

Mom was a homemaker, taking care of seven children in her early years. She later was employed by the Somerset County Public School System where she worked for 36 years at Deal Island School. Mom was loved by all who knew her and was affectionately known by all the children there as "Grandma".

Mom's greatest pleasure was traveling with the Benton Family singing gospel music all around the Eastern Shore. Mom was a member of Faith Independent Church in Wenona.

She leaves behind to treasure her memory two sons, Linwood "Sonny" Benton, Jr. and his friend Joann and James Benton and his wife Debbie, all of Deal Island; four daughters, Wanda Benton and her husband Clifton of Wenona, Jeanette Stine and her husband Mike of Colonial Beach, VA, Vicky Ford and her husband Roy of Deal Island, and Teresa O'Neal and her husband Dennis of Laurel, DE; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Tommy Daniels; two sisters, Myrtle Bransford and Kay Daniels; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Linwood Benton, Sr.; a son, Ronnie Benton; a brother, Earl Daniels; and three grandsons, Eric, Stewart and Steven Benton.

Funeral services officiated by The Rev.'s Mike Stine and Lloyd Foard will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wenona where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 PM. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Wenona.

Contributions can be made in memory of our Mom to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Lawson, Addie M.

ADDIE M. LAWSON, 86, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Crisfield January 10, 1924, she was a daughter of the late John and Addie Mae Mills McGrath. Her husband, George H. Lawson, died July 20, 2003.

She graduated from Crisfield High School class of 1940, and was a cashier at Riggin's Grocery for many years. She was a member of Christ Fellowship Bible Church in Crisfield.

She is survived by four children, Anne Ward and her husband Gene, George Lawson, Jr. and his wife Debbie, and Gayle Ward and her husband Wayne, all of Crisfield and Jeffery Lawson of New York City; a sister, Catherine Lankford of Marion; six grandchildren, Stephen Ward, Eugene Ward, Jr., Linda Warner, Gretchen Fritz, Justin Lawson, and Chad Ward; 13 great-grandchildren, Stephen Ward, Nickie Carew, Shirley Ward, Autumn Fritz, Sarah Fritz, Shannon Fritz, Sabrina Warner, Erin Ward, Ashleigh Ward, Kyleigh Lawson, Ava Lawson, Austin Ward and Conner Ward; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Lawson; a grandson, Ryon Lawson; three sisters, Sara Andrews, Ruth Young and Mary Lou Charnock; and two brothers, John McGrath, Jr. and Robert Lee McGrath.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Stephen Willing will officiate. Due to inclement ground conditions, interment will be at a later date in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
