Whittington, Marijean Sterling Tull

MARIJEAN STERLING TULL WHITTINGTON, 90, of Crisfield, died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield September 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Edmund Davy and Dolly Sterling Tull. Her husband, William Whittington, preceded her in death in 1980.

A homemaker, she was a graduate of Crisfield High School. She had a great affection for her family.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William L. H. and Nancy Whittington of Seattle; four grandchildren, Edmund D. Whittington and Leslie H. Whittington, both of Seattle, Leah D. Eckley of Tucson and Ani M. Hoover of Buffalo; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Eckley.

Graveside funeral services and interment were held Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 2 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Marion Station. The Rev. Laura Dorsey officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home Memorial Fund, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Marshall, Hilda Lee

Hilda Lee Marshall, 88 of Cambridge, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She was born in Cambridge on May 4, 1922, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Frances Spedden Casper.

She attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1939. On January 18, 1941 she was married to Ellsworth M. Marshall. Mr. Marshall passed away on May 27, 1998. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Bible Study and Strawberry Festival. Some years ago she had been a member of the Homemaker's Club and had served as State President. She had been active as a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Mrs. Marshall enjoyed going to lunch with a number of her classmates once a month since her graduation and enjoyed playing cards, gardening, quilting and canning. Mrs. Marshall had also participated in the Women of Faith for a number of years. She was a Charter Member of the Neck District Vol. Fire. Co. She had been in failing for the past year and had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center since October of 2009 where she passed away.

Survivors include a daughter Sara L. Peters and her husband Frankie Peters of Cambridge one granddaughter Patti Sue Glessner, and her husband Jack Glessner of Cambridge, one grandson Ryan C. Peters, and his fiancée Kelli MacFarland of Cambridge, two great grandchildren Steffi B. Webster and Kinsley A. Peters and four step grandchildren Shelby Glessner, Sam Glessner, Jordan Glessner and Alex Glessner. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a sister Sara Warrington and two nephews Dickie Warrington and Billy Warrington.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at Spedden Seward Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Frankie Peters, Ryan Peters, Jack Glessner, Steve Webster, Barney Peters and Jerry Boyle. Honorary bearers will be Pat Tolley, Barbara Wilson, Betty Smith, Eleanor Wheatley, Libby Perry and Shelly Willey. Memorial contributions may be made to Beckwith United Methodist Church, c/o Mr. Harold Miller, 5730 Morris Neck Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, Neck District Volunteer Fire Co., 945 Cooks Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Insley, Carl C.

Army

Carl C. Insley, 73 of Madison, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Friday, November 12, 2010. He was born at Madison on May 4, 1937, and was a son of the late Harold Roland and Hazel Elizabeth Hurley Insley.

Mr. Insley attended schools at Madison and in Cambridge. He served in the U.S. Army from September 12, 1960 until he was Honorably Discharged on August 31, 1966. While serving in the Army he had been stationed in Alaska. Some years ago he had worked at Leonard Simmons Canning House, and later had worked at Connelly Containers for a number of years. Mr. Insley had mainly worked on the water for most of his life. On January 4, 1964 he was married to the former Betty Lou Aaron. She passed away on March 24, 2009. He enjoyed gardening. Mr. Insley had been in failing health for the past two years and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge since May 3 of this year where he passed away early Friday morning.

Survivors include a step son Gene Aaron of Hurlock, two sisters Kay Francis Abey of Secretary and Doris Ann George of Chester, Virginia and one brother Ronald "Romeo" Insley and his wife Nilda Insley of Cambridge, a step son in law Ken Bright of Madison and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a step daughter Mary Ann Bright and two brothers in law Leroy Abey and Donald J. George

A graveside service will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Old Trinity Churchyard with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Pallbearers will be Leroy (Tiny Jug) Abey, Phillip "Boy" Frazier, Ken Bright, Sam Horseman, Bob Schubert and Walter (Bunsy) Aaron. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Turkle North and Frankie Willey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 23, Madison, MD, 21648 or to the Madison United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Margaret Trego, 4610 White Marsh Road, Madison, MD 21648. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Ziegler, Barbara

Barbara Ziegler was born May 18, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Rebecca Leonard Ziegler and G. Raymond Ziegler. Her twin brother preceded her in death in 2008. Barbara graduated from the Randolph-Mason Woman's College, worked at the Department of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Hospital with Dr. A.M. Harvey; Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital with Dr. E. Bradley and the Maryland State Bureau of Laboratories as Branch Chief of the Cambridge Laboratory.

After retirement from the medical field she became a well known artist having one-person shows, winning ribbons and awards. Her paintings may be found throughout the state and abroad.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Cambridge Cemetery with Rev. Robert Gribbon officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Bishop, Mary Katherine

Mary Katherine Bishop, a resident of Glen Burnie, Md., and formerly of Cambridge, Md., died July 20th, 2010 of natural causes.

She was born December 26th, 1928 at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va. to the late Reverend William Irvin Collins, Sr. and Audie Elizabeth Newcomb. She graduated from Church Hill High School. She was an avid sports fan who played volleyball in high school and followed professional tennis and baseball throughout her adult life. She worked for Airpax Electronics in Cambridge, Md. as an assembler and line supervisor for many years. Later, she became a full time homemaker who enjoyed decorating, gardening and flowers. Above all, she valued her family and friends, helping those she could and making everyone feel special. Her common sense and good nature will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, James M. Bishop, Sr.; two daughters, Phyllis Ball (Mickey) of Salisbury, Kathy Bishop (Raymond Meyer) of Kent Island; as well as three sons; James M. Bishop, Jr. of Cambridge, Md., William D. H. Bishop, and David A. Bishop (Ruth) of Linthicum Heights, Md.; and one sister, Barbara Beauchamp (Kenny) of Trappe, Md.

Additionally, she is survived by eight grandchildren: Michele, Jay, Jenny, Jill, Ethan, Audie, Sara and Matt; and five great-grandchildren: Mary, Aiden, Scarlett, Austin and Avery.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Anne Calloway (Jack) and her brother Bill Collins (Carolyn) formerly of Mardela Springs, Md. and her brother, Bruce Collins, formerly of Cambridge, Md.

A funeral service will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge on Friday, July 23rd, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. The viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mardela Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the charity of your choice in her name.

Thomas, Genevieve H.

Genevieve H. Thomas, 86 of Salisbury, formerly of Cambridge, passed away at the Wicomico Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. She was born in Yuma, Arizona on September 24, 1923, and was a daughter of the late William S. and Teresa "Ruby" Ochoa Hodges.

She attended schools in Arizona, and graduated from Yuma High School in 1940, and attended Tempe State College in Tempe, AZ. From September of 1942 until January of 1946 she had worked as secretary to the Base Commander at the Yuma Airfield. On July 4, 1943 she was married to Leslie M. Thomas. Mr. Thomas passed away on April 10, 1994. Mrs. Thomas was a communicant of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. For a number of years she had substituted at the Academy School in Cambridge. She later worked at Western Publishing Corp. from October 1961 until January 1986. Mrs. Thomas later worked part time as a secretary at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners from September of 1994 until September of 2000. She was a lifetime member of the Maryland PTA, Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered at the Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce and was also a volunteer at Dorchester County Hospice as well as Coastal Hospice. Since March of 2002 Mrs. Thomas has made her home with her daughter in Salisbury. She had been in failing health since Christmas, and had been a patient at the Wicomico Nursing Home since March 1st where she passed away on Tuesday evening.

Survivors include one daughter Janet T. Veditz and her husband Brian T. Veditz of Salisbury, 2 sons Leslie M. Thomas, Jr. and his wife Terry G. Thomas of Herndon, VA and Larry M. Thomas and his wife Sandra Thomas of Hummelstown, PA, four granddaughters Shey Conover, Carly Kincaid, Jennifer Thomas and Meredith Thomas, four grandsons David Thomas, Michael Thomas, Adam Thomas and Josh Thomas. She is also survived by a great grandson Harper Conover, one niece and two nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother William S. Hodges, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church on Glasgow Road in Cambridge on Wednesday, April 28th at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leslie M. Thomas, Jr., David Thomas, Mike Thomas, Josh Thomas, Adam Thomas, Larry M. Thomas and Brian T. Veditz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Palmer, Deborah M.

Debi Marie Kear Palmer, 56, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Bethesda on January 16, 1954 and was a daughter of Dolores Legutko Hollingsworth and the late Robert G. Kear.

Debi attended schools in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She also attended Chesapeake College. She was worked at Airpax, Hyatt Regency, Black & Decker and Celeste Inc. She loved her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter Trisha Bramble and fiancee Ryan Savage of Quantico, MD, a son John Kear of Cambridge, 4 grandchildren Sara Savage, Tara Jade Bramble, Brett Bramble and Dori Savage, her mother Dolores Hollingsworth and her stepfather John of East New Market, two sisters Christine Maggio of Cambridge and Linda Kear of Easton, a brother Robert Kear and wife Dianna of Hurlock and several nieces and nephews. Besides her father, Debi is preceded in death by a daughter Tara Leigh Kear.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. J. Edward King officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m.

Insley, Thelma B.

Thelma R. Insley, 86, of Taylor's Island passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 at her home. Services were held privately on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Lorraine Park Cemetery in Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Dorchester, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Miller, Ernest F.

Ernest F. Miller, 74 of Taylors Island, formerly of Madison, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 26, 2010. He was born in Laurel, MD on August 8, 1935, and was a son of the late Lee Dorset and Jessie Laverne Landon Miller.

He attended schools in Bladensburg and graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1955. On February 3, 1956 he was married to the former Betty Jean Thompson. She passed away on July 15, 2008. Mr. Miller had worked as a sheet metal worker and later was a business agent for Local Union 100 Sheet Metal Workers and from 1974 until he retired in 1995 he worked as an organizer for Sheet Metal Workers International Assoc. Mr. & Ms. Miller moved to Madison in 1977. Mr. Miller enjoyed golfing and wood working as well as hunting and fishing. He was a former member of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 BPOE. Mr. Miller had been in failing health for the past six weeks when he passed away on Saturday evening.

Survivors include a daughter Sherry Willey and her husband Tom Willey of Taylors Island, a son Dennis Miller and wife Wendy Miller of Fredericksburg, VA, three grandchildren Tommy Willey, Danielle Grogg and Kyle Willey, three great grandchildren Angelina Grogg, Bryan Grogg and Alexis Willey, one sister Joan Johnson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., three brothers Andrew Miller of Laurel, Leo Miller of Glenelg, Jerry Miller of Washington State and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. and during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Danielle Grogg, Wendy Miller, Kim Cochran, Martha Allen, Tom Willey, Tommy Willey, Courtney Seabreese and Kyle Willey.
