Lloyd, Ardeth M.

Ardeth Marie Pennington Lloyd, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at her home. She was born in Elliott County, Kentucky on September 22, 1923 and was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Pennington.

She attended high school in Ashland, KY where she excelled in secretarial work and was proud of her typing skills and the ability to type 100 words per minute. When WWII began, she went to work in Baltimore as a secretary at Penn Station. Later she worked for several area automobile agencies as a title clerk until she retired in 1970. Ardeth loved to sew and cook. She also enjoyed collecting cook books that reached over 4000 books.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years Otis Lloyd Jr. of Cambridge, a brother Herman Pennington and wife Nilfa of Las Vegas, NV, a niece Cathleen Meech and husband John of Street, MD, a nephew Donald Pennington of Sykesville and a sister in law Josiephine Pennington of Sykesville. Besides her parents, Mrs. Lloyd is preceded in death by two brothers John Pennington and Gene Pennington.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall Blackmon officiating. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Elzey, Betty Mae

Betty Mae Elzey, 78, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Hudson on October 12, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Bergie Seward Wheatley.

Mrs. Elzey attended schools in Cambridge. On December 21, 1951 she married Robert L. "Buddy" Elzey. Mr. Elzey passed away on January 10, 2008. She worked for Rob Roy and later at Airpax. She enjoyed camping and motorcycle riding.

She is survived by a brother Robert Wheatley of Cambridge and several brothers in law, sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews. Beside her parents and her husband, Mrs. Elzey is preceded in death by a daughter Linda Mae Elzey, a sister Mary Catherine Brooks and three brothers Howard Wheatley, Vernon Wheatley and Willard Wheatley.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Abraham Lankford officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of ones choice.

Ruark, Burnice I.

Burnice I. Ruark, 87, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Homestead Manor in Denton. She was born at Wingate on June 24, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Alfred and Lorena Jones Reynolds.

She attended schools at Wingate. On April 26, 1941 she was married to Frederick A. Ruark. Mr. Ruark passed away on April 19, 1982. She worked at Caldwell Casting, Mallard Bay as a nurse's aide and had also picked crabs at Todd's Seafood and Kool Ice and Seafood. She had attended the Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed doing needlepoint.

She is survived by two daughters Darlene Ruark Hrusecky and husband Dennis of Allentown, PA and Brenda Vickers of East New Market, a son F. Levi Ruark and wife Kay of Cambridge, three grandchildren Kimberly Vickers, Steven E. Ruark and Scott Levi Ruark, one great grandson William Joseph Ruark and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and a son in law James Vickers.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel near Hurlock with Rev. Paul D. Dieter and Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Parry, Sr., Albert M.

Albert M. Parry, Sr., 75, of Crapo passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at The Pine’s in Easton. He was born in Pottsville, PA on July 15, 1934 and was a son of the late George and Mary Ferris Terrill Parry.

Mr. Parry graduated from Crapo High School class of 1953. On November 19, 1954 he married the former Rebecca Robinson. He was an electrician where he worked for several businesses in Dorchester County. He also worked at Maple Elementary School as the maintenance supervisor.

He is survived by wife Rebecca R. Parry of Andrews, a son Albert Parry, Jr. of Preston and a daughter Kimberly Parry of Frederica, DE, three grandsons, Matthew Thomas, Adam Thomas and David Thomas, a great grandson Dominick Thomas, a sister Hope Gordon of Venice, Fl., a sister in law Lola A. Jones of Wingate and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Parry is preceded in death by a grandson Eric Parry, several siblings Ethel Thompson, Jessie Vinnecombe, Mary Moore, Virginia Nash, George Parry, Jr., Donald Parry, toddler, Edie Jones, William Parry, Roberta Gordon, Majorie Ann Parry, infant, Steven Parry, infant, Althea Hazlett and Gwenneth Brumley.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Thomas, Adam Thomas, David Thomas, James Nunes, George Parry, James Willey and Dave Jarrell.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pardee Bramble officiating. Burial will follow at the Wesley Church Cemetery in Andrews. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Company, 2103 Farm Creek Road, Wingate, MD 21675.

Robinson, Jeannie C.

Jeannie C. Robinson, 87 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Monday August 30, 2010. She was born at Weirton, West Virginia on September 24, 1922.

She attended nursing school in Baltimore where she received her R.N. For a number of years she had worked as a Registered Nurse at Mallard Bay, Dorchester General Hospital and had worked as a private sitter. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. As her health allowed she had attended St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. On November 11, 1958 she was married to Monroe Thomas Robinson. Mr. Robinson passed away on February 13, 1982. Mrs. Robinson made her home in Florida from 1988 until she moved back to Cambridge in 2006. She had been in failing health for the past four years and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital for one week when she passed away on Monday afternoon.

Survivors include a grandson Jason Allen Robinson, and his mother Donna Barnes of Cambridge, who was her caregiver for the past 4 ˝ years, one great grandson Jason Thomas Robinson of Cambridge. She is also survived by several other grandchildren who knew her as Mom Mom Jeannie: Jessica Hitch of Cambridge, Michael Laird, Jr. of Cambridge, Ashley Squires of Cambridge, Shannon Mowbray who is currently stationed in Iraq and John Michael Hastings of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Thomas Merritt "Skeeter" Robinson and a grandson Joseph "Jo Jo" Preston.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Cambridge Cemetery with Rev. William Lawler officiating. Pallbearers will be William Vasquez, Michael Laird, Jr., Jason Robinson, John Michael Hastings Shawn Hitch and Jeff Prahl. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Robinson's name to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD, 21613.

Fick, Earl J.

Army

Earl J. Fick, 89, of Toddville passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at his companion's home in Toddville. He was born in Baltimore on January 28, 1921 and was a son of the late Walter D. and Annie Schuman Fick.

Mr. Fick graduated from Baltimore Polytech Institute. He served in U.S. Army during WWII. He was an aircraft assembler for Glenn L. Martin from 1940 until 1943 and later he worked for Automation Industries until he retired in 1986. Mr. Fick was married to the former Martha Norment. She passed away in March of 1983. Mr. Fick liked repairing engines and restoring antiques. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Toddville and a lifetime member of Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Company.

He is survived by a son Steven E. Fick of Washington Grove, MD and his companion Betty Tall of Toddville. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Fick is preceded in death by a son Robert J. Fick, two sisters and five brothers.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Toddville with Rev. Barbara Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining churchyard. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Peggy Pritchett, 2513 Toddville Road, Toddville, MD 21672. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Bryan, Ronald W. "Buzzy"

Ronald W. "Buzzy" Bryan, 67 of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. He was born in Cambridge on July 25, 1943, and was the son of Rachael Beckwith Bryan Mayne, and the late Ronald Weldon "Joby" Bryan.

Buzzy attended schools in Secretary and graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1961. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam aboard the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard as a machinist mate third class. After he was honorably discharged from the service he briefly worked at the National Can Co. in Cambridge. On June 8, 1968 he was married to the former Carol Harding. Mr. Bryan worked for Delmarva Power for 34 years and had retired on April 1, 1998. He was a member of the Poor Boys Yacht Club in Secretary, Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 V.F.W., Dor. Co. Farm Bureau and NRA. Mr. Bryan was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting and fishing. He had been in failing health since April when he passed away on Tuesday evening.

Survivors include his wife Carol A. Bryan of Cambridge, one daughter Dawn Bryan of East New Market, one son Ronnie W. Bryan, Jr. of East New Market, his mother Rachael Mayne of Cambridge, one sister Carolyn Robinson of Castle Haven, two nieces and one nephew. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a grandson Ronald Wayne Bryan III.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Mr. James Dayton officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Roy Wells, Tommy Todd, Bruce Hurley, Brian Harding, Jake Johnson and James Dayton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802, or to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Burton, Roland L. "Sonny"

Roland L. "Sonny" Burton, 71 of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 18, 2010. He was born in Cambridge on July 29, 1938, and was a son of the late Roland W. and Violet Lewis Burton.

He attended schools in Cambridge. On February 14, 2001 he was married to the former Phyllis Webb. Sonny had worked at Todd's GMC and later at the Altec Loan & Pawn Shop in Cambridge. He had also worked at the Cambridge Bowling Center. Sonny enjoyed racing stock cars, and had been a NASCAR fan for many years, and enjoyed boating and fishing. He had been in failing health for the past year when he passed away at his home on Thursday morning.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis Burton of Cambridge, two daughters Kathy Davidson of Cambridge and Karen Knopp and her fiancée Jeff Allendorf of Trappe, one son Ricky Mooney and his wife Cathy Mooney of Linkwood, four grandchildren Steven Knopp, Melissa Mooney, Dana Davidson and Brooke Davidson, four step children Tamara Murphy, Roslyn Tibbs, Troy Webb and Jason Webb and seven step grandchildren Heather Murphy, Tara Murphy, Derrick Murphy, Courtney Beauchamp, Wesley Fountain, Devin Tibbs and Brandon Tibbs. He is also survived by two great grandchildren Kaliana Knopp and Nicholas Tyler, one step great grandchild Sarah Beauchamp, two sisters Jean Thomas of Cambridge and Shirley Christopher of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Audrey Meekins and Gretha Burton and one brother Robert "Joe Boy" Burton.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. D.J. Wooten officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Jeff Allendorf, Scott Metje, Kent Elzey, Scott Elzey, Ryan Elzey and Mike Beauchamp. Memorial contributions may be made to the Linkwood-Salem Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 66, Linkwood, MD 21835, or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Abbott, Sr., E. Mace

E. Mace Abbott, Sr., 76 of Toddville passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge on March 2, 1934 and was the son of the late Thurman G. and Kathleen Jones Abbott.

Mr. Abbott attended schools in South Dorchester. On November 28, 1987 he married the former Darlene Wheatley. He was waterman. His nickname was "Jack Rabbit". He enjoyed doing wood working. He was a member of the Waterman's Association in Dorchester County.

He is survived by his wife Darlene Abbott of Toddville, two daughters Cathy Donaldson and husband Jeff of Hurlock and Cherie Lynn Parry of Cambridge, two step daughters Raye Abbott of Toddville and Cherie Robinson of Toddville, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a special cousin Donna Spedden of Cambridge and several cousins. Besides his parents, Mr. Abbott is preceded in death by his son Edward Mace Abbott, Jr. and a granddaughter Michelle Moxey.

Pallbearers will be Charles Hayward, Chuckie Hayward, Tommie Powley, Thomas Powley, William Windsor and Dickie Dawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Elzey, Allen Jones and Charles North.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at noon at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Lavone R. Chester officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Company, 2103 Farm Creek Road, Wingate, MD 21675 or to St. Thomas United Methodist Church, c/o Phyllis Mills, 1817 Crocheron Road, Bishops Head, MD 21672.
